Having had a Core P3 for 3 years now, and living in a desert with two pet cats, I can confirm that dust/hair really is not as big a problem as you might think it is. This is because you have no case fans drawing dust-laden air across your components, but instead you only have the same component fans (CPU/GPU cooler) that you would have regardless of case style. Effectively, the only dust gets deposited by air directly above the case due to gravity, which means it accumulates dust at the same rate as a coffee table.

Buy a large black stocking (the thin and stretchable kind), stretch it, and put it around the whole thing. If the stocking gets in the way of the CPU fan blades, add a simple fan grid. I exclusively use open cases for all my builds, especially for gaming and heavy rendering, because the cooling is so much better. In my opinion they are much better against dust buildup, since it's way easier to clean them. Closed cases get clogged with dust since it's hidden in the closed case and people therefor never bother to do anything about it. Open cases are also way smaller and easier to transport, while having much greater cooling and and ease of access.

Vertical open cases don't collect much dust. There is no forced air. It will only collect on horizontal surfaces. Having an enclosed system with high airflow is no different to having an air filter. You only need filters when you have more airflow. less airflow = less dust. No fans = no dust. I ran a P5 for two years and never cleaned it out once.
@FrodeBergetonNilsen4 жыл бұрын
Just use a D15, and the fans hardly need to spin, if used correctly. Also, heat sort of rises, making downfall of dust, not much of a thing. Also, low airflow, as in really, really, low airflow, do not suck dust into the build. I ran my 1920 rad system, unstacked, open case, the fans were utterly clean, 18 months in. Nothing even to clean of them. There is only need for a blow job on the MB, using compressed air, every no and then.

FYI, for years I ran an Antek Skeleton chassis, and with it's downdrafting 300mm fan on top it had outstanding cooling, fabulous noise levels, and surprisingly very little dust issues. Part of the issue with dust on a more normal case is that there are inevitably deadzones in the airflow that cause dust to settle, in addition on a filtered air case well that dust has someplace to be blocked and then later get noticed. On an open air chassis, there's just no enclosed space for deadzones. I ended up taking a can of air to my Antek about twice in 4 years. By far one of the best anti-dust PC's I've ever owned. All that said, I love this chassis, and if it were cheaper and available, I'd pick one up... and finally just be rid of water cooling. But as minimal as it is in it's design, my bet is that I could make something out of hardwood that's just as effective and pretty... which I may just do.

I absolutely love the design of this case. It looks absolutely wonderful, but I am a fan of the T1 at the moment. The things that are great are the apparent quality of build, the logo and the ability to see all that great gear, which I like to see. Seems like the I/O could have been added to the spine... that would have been cool. Also, I have this Razer Viper Ultimate with dock and it's a much better mouse than the Logitech Gaming Pro, for me anyway, as I have small to medium sized hands and the Pro is much too arched for my hands and very uncomfortable. I absolutely love the Razer. It feels wonderful in my hand and the shape is very "alien" and I love the panels. It is incredibly accurate and smooth as well.. the only drawback at the moment, is I can't get a T1 case ordered so I can't begin my microsoft ITX build so I am using it on my MacBook Pro... and there is no control software availalble for Apple, nor is Razer planning on writing any so the colors of the dock (using a third party download controller called Razer MacOS) are cycling through the spectrum and can not be adjusted on an Apple computer.

Great to see a company with an open case design. We need to see more creative designs. The “dust issue” with an open case is a non-starter. If you're having dust issues with your computer your having dust, air quality issues in your home or apartment. I now exclusively use only open case designs - InWin D-Frame and D-Frame Mini - running nearly 2.5 years and have never had dust issues of any kind. A slight buildup on the fan blades I clean about once a year. Why? Solution? The solution is to use HEPA with carbon filter air purifiers sized to the rooms square footage. We use 3 Honeywell units sized to three areas of our home and have minimal dust issues. Run a test for a month and you're be shocked at the amount of pollutants you and your family are breathing into your lungs let alone your computer. Tip: It helps to remove your shoes before coming in. BTW, there are direct improvements in your health if environmental air quality is controlled. A closed home is a worst case inviting a variety of health problems (see the research). It's common sense, and we should all realize this. So don't hesitate looking at a cool open case design. After all there is little to no innovation or expression in closed cases with most of them providing questionable ventilation. They're pretty boring and most builds look alike when finished in comparison. Time to move past the open case myth.

I was using be queit! silent wing 3's, but after looking up some testing artic fans blow everything out of the water in pressure, cfm, and all while having the lowest dba while giving the best aio performance. Have P14's on the way for my aio right now actually.

Great video! I have a 110v compressed air gun, it's a small handheld one but very powerful. I leave the side panel to my case open 24/7 as I like quick, easy access 😉. I'd guess about 10 seconds of the gun once a week would keep it in tip top shape functionally. Aesthetics would be a different story though..

I live in the desert southwest yet I don't have a lot of issues with dust. However, I have in the past and most notably with it has been with closed cases where the fans blow the dust into the case. I just bought the Thermaltake Core P3 ATX Tempered Glass and I cannot wait to put it together and hang it on the wall! At least I can see when dust accumulates and address it right away. I don't understand why you would have an issue with these "trending" open cases. The thermal benchmarks are excellent on all of them.

I actually got my hopes up because I’m looking to build my own pc with a mini itx motherboard and I’m currently looking for a good case. I saw this and I said to myself “this has a lot of potential and it looks good”, I visited the cited link in your description and found out how expensive it was. That was really just a killer for me because this would be the ideal case that I would buy. But unfortunately I’m on a budget and $260 for a case is not what I’m looking for. But thank you for the wonderful ideal and the swift introduction to open air cases. Love the vids

Dust ?! Look how open, easy and quick it is to dust it off using a vacuum hose with a brush attachment! It's not like you have to struggle cleaning out the inside of a normal pc case ! I've heard other reviewers of open air cases make the same complaint and I have to laugh at that. This thing would almost be a pleasure to dust once in awhile if needed. LOL 🤓

Damn they are just now trending? I am about to be done with my old Banchetto 101 open case from 2010. Sure was easy to work on but I need something more aesthetically clean for my new office. I am always either ahead of or behind the times! lol BTW Dust isn't an issue at all unless you live near a construction site or a desert. In fact, my open case setup stays much, much cleaner than they do in my closed case. Even the areas within the fans that I can't easily get to stay cleaner than they do inside a case. Components definitely get dirtier inside a close case where the dirt gets sucked in and trapped.

I like the idea of open cases a lot, since it doesn't take up so much space that it actually doesn't need and basically don't affect the thermal at all. One thing to be careful about is that if you are living in places that are not so clean, you might need to clean it regularly or it will be a disgusting nightmare.

I just mounted all my components to a sheet of plywood on draw slides and mounted it under my desk, stupid easy to work on, the best cooling performance, quiet because I only have two fans on my cpu and the ones on my 1080Ti and you don't see it under the desk. Its also good for giving a bit of warmth in winter. All cases have so many holes in them for air flow I just thought I should go to the next obvious level and get rid of the case completely. Can't believe I didn't do this years ago.

I like it’s small footprint BT & wireless everything but single Thunderbolt Display is clean & portable. I would add the accessory front I/O USB & audio side bracket available separately. Temps R awesome. For dust, a Tylersburg nt toaster or blender cover fits perfectly while not using like at night & while at work (although, it’s so portable, I wanna take it to work) it’s certainly an eye catcher. But definitely not suitable as test bench. Such a chore to get anything out so much as a SSD if u used 1.
