@@preymmann9612 We moved into our house with lovely light oak trim and cabinets a year ago and every wall was painted in Requisite Gray which was too dark and way too cool. We used Sherwin Williams Natural Linen in our entry and two hallways in a northern exposure area and it is absolutely lovely! Just a hint of warmth, gentle, mellow, and neutral. It's lovely! We used Benjamin Moore's Smoke in our dining room (northern exposure) and it is just the right amount of blue, very timeless. We have Alabaster in my daughter's room (southern exposure) and 3 walls of our bedroom (northern exposure) and it's fabulous, if you are looking for a soft white. I'm still searching for a good color for our southern exposure Kitchen/Dinette/Great Room space which all flows together. Debating if I want something light and airy (like SW Alabaster,) something neutral (like SW Wordly Gray,) or if I go for moody (BM Knoxville Grey or SW Pewter Green.) Good luck to you!!

Hi Kylie, I “inherited” an oak kitchen. I have worked extremely hard. I have wracked my brain until I’m senseless. Thank you for your video. I understand so much more. But…lol I’m so in love with rainwashed. I do have beige appliances and countertops. I do not have exposed hinges thank goodness. I have beige/brown terracotta(at night) ceramic tiles. It is a north facing kitchen but does get quiet a bit of light. All I see is the 🤮beige. I totally do not mind installing lifeproof vinyl flooring and quartz countertops. However I’m very tired. I’m thinking gray quartz countertops but ugh I barley know my name anymore. I’m located in Michigan. What would be your best recommendation for my situation? Can I email you along with photos? I feel so beyond oak & beige help! Lol thanks again💜

Great video, food for thought regarding the colors. My issue is a very small, dark kitchen with the dark oak cabinets, exactly like the ones in this video with the cathedral top. My floors are real hardwood in the same dark color and they are in pristine condition and look great. I want to paint the cabinets a off white/bone (made by All in One Beyond Paint, no primeing or sanding) and give the cabinets a distressed look so that some of the dark oak color peeks through to play off the floor and with a back splash that will play off the floors, not going too dark but with splashes of the dark oak. I have been researching the peel and stick stone tile, there are absolutely beautiful colors. The house is an 80's built home, we purchased in June of this year, we are now empty nesters. I don't want to modernize too much, just a little updating. The cabinets' hardware are metal with a ceramic insert, really 80's , but I do love them, they are slight ornate and I am really researching how I can update the color of the ceramic insert to coordinate with the overall color scheme (haven't figured that one out yet), my husband is not participating in the design, I told him this is my domain and I want complete control, so I am taking my time and really researching. We coordinate our efforts on the rest of the decor of the house from outside to inside and I really love it. I wish I knew how to insert a picture in this comment, but I don't. Any thoughts for me to consider?
@KylieMInteriorsPaint2 жыл бұрын
Theresa, I just LOVE everything you're saying here. I did distressing of our kitchen cabinets in one of our PREVIOUS homes (...we've had a few) and I loved how it turned out~! When you distress, ONLY hit the edges. If you venture onto the panels, you'll scuff the paint and i can get a bit too...worn looking. The edges are the TRICK! NOw, I dont' know about the paint you're talking about as I used BEHR paint as it's a more traditional cabinet paint. Now, when you sand the edges, you might get back to bare wood and this is where a stain PEN comes in handy, to get that depth again. Mind you, if the product you're using is more like chalk paint, I would assume you WIPE the edges (and I would worry about a stain pen marring the paint as it's not normal paint). And yes, the peel and stick products are so fantastic. It's NICE if you can get an actual stone one, not one of the plastic/gel ones ;). Wayfair has a few options, but I've seen them at Home Depot too. Just make sure the tile has the SAME off white that you're painting your cabinets for FLOW! And I've NEVER heard of hardware like this, sounds wild and as long as you LOVE them, that's what matters. HOWEVER, my thought is that if you're already wanting to change them/the colour of the insert, i PERSONALLY think that a new handle could look better, and you can still pick one that you LOVE the style of! If you're updating the countertop at all, there are some AMAZING laminate/Formica countertops out there that are much more affordable than quartz (as with the ideas you're talking about, I'm assuming you want to stay budget-friendly). You know, if you go to my BLOG and go to the...well here, I'll take you right there. www.kylieminteriors.ca/category/tips-ideas/home-update-ideas/ I have TONS of blog posts, some of them quite specific to updating wood cabinets, includign one on HARDWARE! When doing the hardware, it's nice if it can coordinate with the light fixtures. Seeing as its an 80s home, you might want to stay away from nickel, as I would think there's some brass around already. Brass works well with brass or BLACK! Anyway, as you can see, this is a topic the got me going ;). Best of luck to you!

Well it COULD be quite lovely! I do have a video coming out SOOON on the red-toned woods and I think I have Pale Oak in it? If not, I do have very similar ideas :).

I love your color choices , but for us amateur's . It would be more helpful if you would not rush through color choices . And let us see the samples a bit longer . Just slow down a bit eye sight and hearing is not as good as it use to be LOL .

Thanks for the suggestions Suzanne. If you check out my website at www.kylieminteriors.ca/ and then 'search my site' you might find the answers to your questions on the first two. I will however add Maccchiato to my list!

I’d love to hear what color you would pick for maple cabinets!
@KylieMInteriorsPaint4 жыл бұрын
Ooooo, what type of maple - some are more pink/red/orange/etc...? I'm happy to put another video together if I can find the wood samples!
@beverlyjahn8824 жыл бұрын
@@KylieMInteriorsPaint that would be great! I’ve already painted the walls accessible beige. Which looks fine but I’d be willing to change it for a better color. We have a more red tone maple.

I second your request! I'm painting a 1970s era vacation cabin that has vintage rock maple furniture and knotty pine paneling with red/orange undertones.

2nd this. I'm trying to figure out what colors go with a walnut floor. I can't figure out the undertone. Does walnut have an undertone? Or do I look for something with a brown undertone? Does that even exist? So many questions
