Hi Clara! You were kind enough to reply to my comment on your air fryer video earlier today (‘very British’) and now this crucial British tea support video pops up right when I need to replace my kettle. Top stuff and thank you! Again, I liked your realistic end user considerations here. :)

I’m still chuckling about your earlier comment (in a good way!) And yes kettles in the UK are extremely important and (whisper it!) better than American ones! 😳🤭

I have absolutely no interest in buying an expensive new kettle because my lovely, £20-ish, Russell Hobbs does me just fine, but somehow I find myself watching your videos even for things I don't need or want because your reviews are really interesting. The Ninja made me think I was standing next to a runway with a jet fighter coming up behind to take off! That's a plus in my book, I'd just be disappointed that there wasn't actually a plane there!

Well Debbie I am enormously glad (and slightly amused) that I have sucked you in! 😆 Is there anything you are interested in buying that I could make a video about next time? 😘

@@CandidClaraI totally agree. My kettle was free. It boils from cold in about 3 minutes when at max capacity, also has a 1.7 litre capacity and is plastic which i much prefer. Fingerprints look really nasty on metal kettles. I have had it for over 9 months now with no issues at all. The only thing I miss is a concealed element because I feel they last longer as the element doesn't degrade due to limescale. Sorry, but these kettles are a total rip off! Angela Rippon and the Rip Off Britain team wouldn't approve! 😅

I bought a dualit kettle and toaster several years ago.My toaster is still fine but the kettle was rubbish. It emitted loud noises like pebbles being fired, I got rid of it. I bought a smeg and the coating near the lid start peeling within a few months. This time I complained. It was swapped for another, same happening. It was swapped again and still the same.3 kettles I tried, I got my money back. I bought a one for under £20, I've had it for around 2 years. No problems. I'll never pay silly money for a kettle again.

I also have a 25 year old dualit toaster which is excellent, I think many of us would be happy to pay a premium for appliances that last but frustratingly there is no telling of premium priced appliances are actually the ones that last… until it’s too late 🤷♀️

Another very good review. I own the dualit because we bought their toaster. Kept having problems with other toasters and theirs was the only one built differently and with the ability to repair. Repairable was an important factor to us and our kettle used to pour horribly and blew a fuse a couple of times so we changed the kettle after getting the toaster. Very happy with the product and haven't had to repair anything yet. The toaster however does have an issue with the timer. I would consider a ninja if I needed to replace my kettle, something with temperature control. Reviewing toasters would be a good video for you to do too. Oh and I need a new food processor so that also 😄 thanks!

Thanks Emily, I appreciate the feedback. Repaiarability is so important and something I'm always keen to highlight. My Dualit toaster is 25 years old and still going strong!

We have this Ninja kettle and it’s great - we love the different temperature options and it’s really useful when boiling water to make baby formula milk feeds which requires 70°c minimum water temp; it saves having to boil to 100°c then waiting longer for it to cool.😃
@CandidClaraАй бұрын
I hadn't thought about formula! Yes that feature would be perfect, I remember having to boil and then wait for it to cool with a crying baby!

Thank you for commenting on the inability to turn off the noises on the Kitchen Aid kettle, it seems so many appliances have loud beeps now. I bought an expensive Samsung washing machine that makes the most awful noise and terrifies one of our dogs, it was only after I got it and talked to their support department that I found out it’s impossible to turn off the beeping.

I have the toaster too and the crazy thing is it’s probably worth more now second hand than when I bought it (25 years ago!) I think part of the reason Dualit products are so expensive is because they make them in the UK

I have a weekett smart kettle and I would never ever go back to anything requiring me to get up and press a button now lol. I don't particularly enjoy the look of it, but how it functions, is awesome. I have been really unwell for the last couple of years and need to spend a lot of time resting, in bed. I boil the kettle by voice from my bed, so I don't have to hang around in getting cold in the kitchen waiting (also can't stand that long). I then fill my cup, two flasks, and refill the kettle for next time. I have instant coffee by my bed, so I make it using the water in my flasks until I run out. Rinse and repeat lol.

I’m definitely going to look that one up, thanks for mentioning it

I've owned several Dualit kettles. They've always let me down in the end but I love the looks. The current one (Architect) leaks. Not ideal but in less than 2 weeks my new kitchen, together with Quooker tap, gets installed. No more kettles for me...😊

Another great review, Clara - and with some interesting results! It seems that premium price tag products don't always yield the expected results. Your £30 Morphy Richards kettle held up well and, for the average every day use case of a kettle, out performed the others in both speed and energy consumption. Would I buy a premium kettle (notwithstanding the extra control over temperature?) - not really, unless aesthetics were the main priority of course.

It’s funny how it inadvertently ended up being a showcase for a £30 product! 🫣 It just goes to show I never quite know what these tests will show.

Maybe it's my prejudice or bias (I quite like Sage stuff) but I just can't think of Ninja as a premium brand. I'm not saying they don't make any good stuff, and a lot of their stuff seems like good value... But while I might think "ooh, Ninja, cool!" I can't see myself thinking "ooh, Ninja, fancy!".
@CandidClara19 күн бұрын
Fair comment and I love your phrasing! 😂 I used to have Sage and loved it until the plastic lid degraded and fell apart, but that could happen to any of these after a few years
@fuzziestlumpkin19 күн бұрын
@CandidClara You prompted me to check the lid on mine, which thankfully seems fine. It is a little over engineered though, and I could see several ways it could fail.

When it comes to product guarantees: What the company/seller offers and what you are entitled to often differ. For instance, in the EU (cannot speak for UK laws but I'd say they are similar) you are entitled to 2 years on electric goods, so hit them with that and don't take no for an answer should your product fail after their ridiculous bad-faith 1 year guarantee.
@CandidClara20 күн бұрын
I’ve talked about this before, there is often a gap between what’s offered and what you are entitled to, but not everyone is comfortable fighting for their rights and so what is offered does actually matter for a lot of people
@JustinMurray170fin20 күн бұрын
@@CandidClara It's a shame they don't fight for their rights because everyone suffers as a consequence. All one has to do is mention that, under law, they are entitled to 2 years. A simple email avoids conflict. That said, if it's an inexpensive (for my budget) item, I too may simply not bother, but that's more down to postage - A €100 kettle: I'm reminding them of my rights.

Never heard of Ninja kettles. They seem to be everywhere. I think it's rather ugly, despite the advantages you list. Personally I love the build - and colour range of Smeg - but Dualit is the most stunning/iconic of those you reviewed. I guess people buy these because they look cool!

@thinksearchbalance2024 buying all equipment on a review channel is going to have a cost, the Aarke kettle is supposed to be one of the quietest on the market and it would have been a good comparison. I know how to use a noise meter app but with all due respect I'm not the review channel.

What fools some manufacturers take us for! My kettle cost less £20 at least 15 years ago and it came from Tesco. Its label says it's a `Rapid Boil' model. It's not particularly noisy and it boils speedily enough for my needs. And it's got a water level window although its minimum level is a wasteful 500 ml. What's not to like? But, hey the hinged plastic lid has started to stick shut - what to do? Why fill it through its wide spout of course! Thank God I still don't need to worry about choosing a replacement - yet! I admire what you're doing but also believe the plethora of so-called `superior' kitchen gadgets will destroy us in the final analysis! Love your thoroughness but I won't be buying any of these three kettles - ever!

If only we could still buy kettles for £20 that last 15 years, but I fear standards have dropped now

@@CandidClara hi - really like the video. Actually, the kettle is made in China. I rang Dualit this morning to ask a few questions, mainly why they charge nearly £6 for delivery on an item close to £150. During the conversation a very nice lady told me that they are actually made in China, although they are repaired in the UK if they should go wrong... I appreciated her honesty. The toasters are manufactured at their facility in Crawley in the UK though.
