@@PerfectlyAverageGolf Man, I hate to hear that about Etowah. They used to host the first round of our conference HS golf tournament my JR/SR years. Second round was at Black Mountain (we won't talk about that). I just recall Etowah being a superb test. If I recall like 7-8 of the original 18 had par 4's over 400 yards, and from the tips, the yardage was pushing 7,000 ---- an unheard-of total in WNC in 1984. Long ago there was a golf card that was available (put out by The Fellowship of Christian Athletes, I believe) that had a lot of great WNC courses. I recall Waynesville CC, Laurel Ridge, Connestee Falls, Reems Creek, Mount Mitchell, Grassy Creek, Maggie Valley, Crooked Creek, Etowah, the old Hilton course, Grove Park, Cummings Cove, Mountain Aire, Springdale, Cleghorn, Black Mountain, Sapphire, and a few others I've probably forgot... but back in the day, our golf group bought the card instead of joining a club just to get the variety. Never played Sequoyah or Laurel Ridge but I played all the others when I was playing every week or even twice a week. If you rate with dollar value all these I have Reems Creek at #1, Connestee at #2, Apple Valley at #3. Grove Park is not in my top 15. Mt. Mitchell was puke when I last played it. The workers and people who run it don’t keep it up. Leaves all over the fairways and the grass was full of weeds. You should get up in the northwestern mountains more. There are a bunch of beautiful course near Boone, Blowing Rock, Jefferson, and Banner Elk. Mountain Glen is a short gem in Newland. Jefferson Landing in Jefferson is lush and in the clouds. Grassy Creek in Spruce Pine is very well manicured and reasonably priced. Too many to list but western North Carolina has by far the most scenic and manicured courses of anywhere in the south.
