The best render distance mod for Minecraft 2024!

I think the main reason why DH is more well known and popular is because of shader support (just as everyone else is saying). Without shaders I would no doubt use voxy, it looks a lot cooler (using enlarged block textures) and it renders faster/better) but I’ve gotten to the point where I can’t play without shaders 😔

This definitely depends on how good you PC is. Distant horizons LOD system can be easily modified to make it so things dont really get blockier over time, you just need to increase the quality of the LODs and drop-off. My gripe with Voxy is that it is like Bobby, in the sense where you have to load the LODs yourself, or get an alternate LOD loader such as Chunky to do it. DH also had shader support. Overall, if you have a lower end pc and/or really like seeing textures on the LODs, then Voxy is better.

As a person who has only used DH: I feel it necessary to add that it also requires the client to load chunks themselves before LODs work (for those who don't know). DH devs are working on server mod, much interest in that, but not 100% sure how it works server side.

one thing to note is voxy doesn't work that well with low end devices and shaders, while the performance decrease from using shaders with distant horizons isn't that big compared to without lod's. this is why i think that dh is better atm but voxy has a lot of potential to.

I have to disagree with that one ! I tried with the mod and without, and i gain 20-30 fps with complementary on ultra ! The mod when installed is killing fps ! Even when shaders are off ! And make big lagspike !!! When i remove it all goes away and fps is way more stable !!!

One question. Can voxy do servers? The nightly dev branch of DH can be put on a server so it updates everyones LODs automatically.

I think that more options in mod menu doesn't mean its better, a lot of things to change and you don't really know what do you change and what impact will happen after changing anything. Less and thoughtful options is better.

Anything higher lag to my computer since it was trying to hard to generate frames I only have a 3060

btw i heard that DH uses your cpu meanwhile voxy uses more of your gpu. So if you had a 24 core cpu for example then DH would be better but if you had like i5 with 6 cores or smth and 4060 then voxy would be better. You really have to look what pc specs you have and what will you use the render distance for becuse voxy as i know doesnt support shaders for now

DH uses CPU for chunk generation and uses GPU for rendering, so once the chunks are generated its only using GPU

I love how people forget that voxy is made by 1 person and is a young mod ! When DH started it was horrible !!! Buggy !!! And not usable at all in normal gameplay ! Break with a lot of mods too!!! Voxy is already a good mod in the first alfa release !!! Can work with 2-3 shaders and perform well !!! Better than DH ! (I have a 4090 and a ryzen 9 7900x) Voxy doesn't cause lag spikes !!! And have a better rendering and looking result (in the video the guy didn't even crank up the quality setting) So in my opinion it is way better than DH !! By a large margin

I dislike giving points for menu-options... 99% of DH users aren't going to use all that garbage. And NONE will understand it fully. It's for developers. Normal users shouldn't be BOMBARDED with 50 menu's and 30 buttons on each menu.
