I appreciate this video because I built a system for my son using this chip and another tech site said it was a weak chip (he might have mixed up the difference between the X offering and non-x offering with the latter subpar to the X). But from what you and many others have said that for things like gaming (especially 1440p) it will more than do the job. Thanks.

Does it work with 7700xt or is that gpu to overkill and is there gonna be a bottleneck
@MarkJacksonGaming10 ай бұрын
-- It might a little. In the kid's rig I have a 3060ti overclocked to around the performance of your 7700xt. Not 100 percent comparison as the 3060 does a lot better with shaders, reflection and lighting at that speed). Not to kick you at all, just you might have an easier time with it. Stock the kids rig doesn't bottleneck the 3060ti, and I've only seen performance gains up to. So I'd say minimal. Taking 100 percent advantage of the card, I'd say close, close being I don't want to lie to you. Thing about bottlenecks, is this though: It's always worse if the GPU can't handle what's being fed to it, not the other way round. Obviously lots of modern games are GPU intensive so go figure. So if you have a bottleneck (and nothing's perfect) you want it going this way, very close, and they way you have it.

-- The 55BDM is a four layer board. Reliable is not the word. the Mag Tomahawk (6 layer) is going to service you a lot better in terms of VRM heat, and has more caps. A 65 watt processor overheating a board ... well a cheap on like that. Yes. The 5700x AM4 can still last several years at least. Spend a little more money. Get a Tomahawk, or an ROG Strix. Have/tested them both, get a little bet more out of the STRIX. You picked the right cooler for the right price. I'm about to humiliate myself here. I have an Arctic Freezer II 420 on my 5700k. But there is a reason. I built the rig for my daughters, and they had to have bigger fans than daddy. That and I always wanted one. But yeah laugh and I deserve it. It does torture test in Prime95 for hours and hours at two degrees above ambient though. VERY impressed with the 5700x for the wattage and the price. My main rig is a 13700k (can outperform through OC anything now) but watching it run Prime95 and dance between 79 and 81c, I can't walk away from it and not worry. The 5700x no need to worry. One thing you don't, really don't want to mess with is your RAM. Team Group, people can say all they want. Manufacturing isn't good, they don't use good chips. That's like trusting your life to a rim fire. Go Corsair, or in this case (with the chipset and processor) GSkill Trident Zero. This budget rig brother. They'll get something right now, but they'll have headaches and ending up spending more over time in the future. Two sticks of 16gig RAM does make sense for population, speed and 32 gigs is going to do it right now just fine. The 980 Pro Samsung is also what I have in my Daughters 5700x rig, but I do have a gas vapor heat sink on it. I run two 2tb 990s in mine. But mine well. It goes 8k with a 4090 Asus TUF. Mine isn't the point. Good choice in NVME for a budget rig. Even 3rd gen is more than fast enough. Now I can't get on your video card selections. I can just share what I did for the budget rig: A Gigabyte 3060ti. It allows great encoding in Sony Vegas. Pretty good card for 4k (but this is at the time, for the kids, and the goal was and still is 1920x1080 on max native (80fps or higher is the goal) for the next several years, hopefully more. I personally would (with the features, overclockability, and power) would go no lower than that. Doesn't make me right. Side note, those 3060's run hot. You basically have to run something like Fan Control or Afterburner if you want them stable and lasting. I mean: 40c idle? 80c or more loaded? What was Gigabyte thinking? With Afterburner: 28c idle, nothing (not even maxed Forza Motorsport) over 67c, and that's overclocked pushing -1% at 88-to 74 frames. So at the time, a good one. Now, the 4060 I believe has it at a lesser price. The stink on that card release. Yes. But facts are facts. I would consider no AMD card for the encoding quality, power, OC, support. 3060ti back then made sense. 4060 right now, something to consider. Forget MSI power supplies. Be Quiet, or Corsair. Why? MSI hates honoring warranties on anything. Corsair and Be Quiet especially are as good quality, priced roughly the same, and you can actually talk to a person. But for those that think they need a silver, gold, platinum power supply. The best one I ever had was a 750 Corsair Bronze. PSU is important, but you can build a great rig that will last a hell of a long time with a Bronze unit. And all of the above is only 5:00 into your video. For the girls case, I chose a Thermaltake Core P3, cheaper, more exotic, requires less cooling, better looking then the NZXT. I'll just shut up till the end. Your last two, hard to agree. Just MSI doesn't give a crap about their customers, and actively try to cover up their mistakes. (I can start with a LONG list receipts with their more recent AIO debacle). My advice: First one, save your pennies kids and at least get the second one. Third one is good but ditch that mini-itx board. It doesn't have the pipelines to feed that GPU. Second option is probably the best on a budget. Here's what I did for the kids rig. Asus ROG Strix AM4 B550 motherboard (runs cooler than the MSI). Samsung 980 pro 1tb NVME & Samsung 500mb SSD for storage, music pictures etc. Corsair Gold 850 power supply (you don't need 850, until you need 850 in the next/another rig) 750 is just fine. Bronze is fine. 16gig sticks x2 GSkill Trident Z Neo DDR4. This is really where I disagree with him. This could be consider premium RAM for this setup, but you do NOT want to mess around with RAM. You'll never know what's actually is going wrong. Thermalright Core P3 case. Suits AIO water coolers, any air cooling, custom water loops, can wall mount it. Cheaper and pretty neat looking if you want style points. Gigabyte NVIDIA 3060ti Eagle (this is not what I'd recommend now) I'd go with the 4070 this guy recommended. But stay away from AMD cards. You're just not going to get the 3rd party use of function and video encoding tools. Side note: I run Intel and NVIDIA in my rigs. But my heart will always belong to AMD. Socket A 1.33 Thunderbird was the best chip you could ever buy for the time. For GPU's hell, it's always going to be Voodoo for me. Went over the cooling and how stupid overkill it was. And again, this will do 4k max detail native but it was built for 1920x1080 (1k) for the kids. Temperatures are excellent. Following games: Forza Horizon 5, Forza Motorsport, Unravel Two, Ori and the Will of the Whisps, Aliens Dark Descent, Ready or Not, Doom Eternal, Jusant, Robocop Rogue City, Hogwarts Legacy. All (1920x1080) max detail, no dlss, native none of them have dropped below 53fps. Average is 78-80+ Only Starfield has suffered. The maker of this video has good perspectives. Hope this adds, not attacks him. t
