I always say I point my flashlight at anything scary, and pull the trigger if it looks even scarier in the light. I have an AR with a light, a shotgun with a light, and a 9mm with a laser/light. The down side is you have to point a gun to point the flashlight, and I don’t like that if I don’t know who it is. I like the idea of the little flashlight too.

I like your videos they're entertaining and also informative. I agree with your assessment on this one the flashlight rules. Recently stopped two teenagers fighting in front of our house at about 1am. Large group of kids had congregated around two females who were fist fighting/wrastling over a guy, i heard screams like at about 1am and got my high powered hand size flashlight out and walked out front of the house. Saw this group of kids and just shined the light on them, immediately they all stopped and looked over, even the two girls fighting stopped. They started up again and i just shined it on them again, said nothing didn't approach them just shined the light on them and after about 5 minutes of this they just broke up and went they're separate ways. I've trained in self defense for several years and to me less is more. I won't use any more force then necessary to end something like this and happily the light was all that was needed.

I have to agree with you on this one. I carry almost exactly the same light, just a little bit newer version everywhere I go. A lot of people don’t understand how big a difference it is if you hear something and you point a light in that direction, versus if you hear something and you point in a gun in their direction. The latter can catch you a charge… The former is no big deal other than maybe you scare them. Besides, you will find so many secondary uses for your flashlight. I use mine at least two or three times a day minimum. That alone justifies caring it around. It’s as much a tool as anything but I sure wouldn’t want to have it shined in my face especially at close range, it would definitely mess with your vision. And as for what type of light,Stay with something simple. Get away from all the strobe and SOS modes. I like the light with high and low. And I wanted to come on with high every time and then be switched to low if that’s what I want.

The reason flashlights are far more disorienting at "night" is because pupils are very dilated (open), allowing more light to reach the business end of the eyeballs. Shine a same lumen light towards a person in broad, sunny daylight and the effect will be vastly different because their pupils, instead of being wide open, are the size of a pencil lead or even smaller.

This video, while not entirely, caused me to carry a flashlight for 4 years, and I still do. I carry one that's a little larger than his so it's too big for a keychain, but I have never had an issue getting through security with it. In fact, security doesn't even give it a second look 95% of the time. I like to go with 400 lumens and smaller than about half the size of my hand so it has some heft but it isn't annoying to carry. I was surprised by how often I actually used it when I first started to carry one too. Much like a knife it's a really handy tool that's so useful I would consider it essential, and it can be great for self defense as well. Also anyone that points out every phone has a flashlight may be right, but those lights are very weak and no one would use that in a self defense situation anyway because it takes too long to deploy it so isn't useful in a fight as a legit flashlight. Everyone should carry a flashlight, it's a no brainer. I never leave home without one.

I was trying to follow a sketchy character who was scoping out peoples yards in my neighborhood. It was broad daylight. He knew I was following and hid around a corner. He jumped me and beat on me with lead pipe. It was very dumb of me to follow him like that. He could have killed me. I wish I had something. You can't even carry pepper spray in Canada. Some of your comments suggest a big flashlight. I might go that route.

Same in Australia. Our Politicians disarmed us several decades ago, then amended laws so that it is impossible for Police to do their job too. Only criminals are armed now as they continually tighten laws that only restrict those that OBEY LAWS, which criminals ignore of course. The "logic" behind it is idiotic.

I've been watching this channel for a while, compelled to comment now for some reason. Best way to stay safe in my experience (as a 6'2" 195 lbs dude with shoulders) is be respectful and overtly friendly. I've spent an extensive amount of time in the most dangerous parts of the US, have done violence interruption work, I haven't avoided being in rough places but when I'm in those places I'm there to help. People generally respect that, and I go great lengths to be respectful, courteous to all people on principle. Apparently people also can tell it wouldn't be worth finding out what happens if I'm prompted to defend myself. When I was a young knucklehead, I survived a lot of very tough scrapes and I know how to do it. I don't ever want to be in that position again. If you're not a bad guy, really hurting someone is not something you'll want to live with even if they had it coming. The last time I got close to being in a jam I stayed calm and quiet and the dude ended up apologizing to me before I said a word. Perhaps not being afraid is a proper warning. I think, outside of professionals for whom violence is part of the job, if you're worried whether you can defend yourself, you probably won't even if you can. If you're an average citizen living in fear, Lord I hope you don't carry a gun. You're more likely to become a murderer than defend yourself righteously. I support your right to do it but please, if you're living in fear of some random attacker to the extent you've gone to great lengths to prepare for it based on the news or seeing people on the street who seem scary, go to Church, become a Big Brother, get sober, get to know the communities you're in, develop some confidence in yourself, by all means practice martial arts, whatever you need to do but know this- if there's one thing that will make you more likely to become a target, outside of involving yourself in shit you shouldn't be doing, it's living in fear. It's like blood in water for the sharks among us. If you draw the attention of the real sharks, your pistol is as likely to to make things worse as it is keep you safe if you're reacting to fear rather than a sober assessment of what's happening. Violence should be an absolute last resort, and if you don't know exactly when and how to use it, and more importantly, when to NOT use it, you're more of a danger to society, your community, your family, than whatever boogeyman you're scared of. Martial arts are a sport. Weapons are for hurting people. The best way to be @hard2hurt is stay out of trouble. If you're not a professional whose job requires violence, before you think about weapons think about why you're spending so much time thinking about how to hurt people. Again, trust me when I tell you, the best outcome to any conflict scenario is that nobody gets hurt. Otherwise, the best anyone can tell you is what a Boy Scout would- Be Prepared. And there are so many steps before carrying a pistol you need to work on to be prepared before carrying a pistol if you're living in fear that you really, really shouldn't be carrying one until you can walk through the world and see people as people instead of people as threats. That'll be your best defense.

These can go many places that my edc knife and pistol cannot ie.concerts, airport, fed buildings. I hate leaving a cutting tool behind, but being able to see in the dark wins. I have had them questioned but never confiscated. Having a quality light shows prepared thought and is an excellent defense. Nothing travels faster than light, but dark doesn’t have to travel at all!

brass knuckles are outlawed because they cause permanent damage to the facial bones of the strikee , unless someone is trying to kill you you are not justified in destroying someones life , same goes for knife / gun . Unless you want to lose everything you have worked your whole life for you should walk away, run might be a better option , if a real criminal is attacking you , you will be very lucky to respond at all . Your best defense is to be alert and aware of everything around you at all times so a criminal picks on someone else .

About 10 years ago I attended a 6 hour USCCA seminar in Aurora, CO. After two different lawyers and a book author on the topic gave their perspectives, everyone jumped in line to buy the USCCA Legal Defense Policy for about $45 per month. Basically, at that time, it boiled down to the following: Brandish your piece in self defense = $250,000 Discharge your piece in self defense = $500,000 Actually shoot your attacker = $1,000,000 And this is when you are in the right. With the legal system stacked against our 2nd Amend Rights, at that point point, I decided that an EDC knife clipped in my right pocket would be a good back up to my 3000 lumen tactical light clipped on my left leg pocket. Blind ‘em with that, and you won’t even need the knife, but it’s there just in case.

My fleshlight has multiple light modes; tailcap button turns on and off and the side button changes modes. Has five modes ranging up to 1150 lumen turbo mode, and an SOS mode. It's called the A1S Tactical, and it's the best light for the money I've ever seen, right around $30. My only complaints are that it lacks a strobe mode and that it doesn't have a "firefly" mode, the lowest setting is bright enough that it'll blank out your natural night vision if used for bathroom trips etc.. For carry in a NPE, the A1 only has max lumens of about 550, but it doesn't have the toothed bezel so it looks more like a normal flashlight.

idk about top number one but i think one of the most fundamental tools of self defense more people need to work on cannot be bought, its situational awareness and good decision making. that alone can stop you from needing to fight. ofc not always but often enough people getting jumped or robbed are having it done because they where to unaware. for example maybe dont walk through a parking lot at night talking on your phone. be aware have your car keys in one hand ready to open your car the other hand free and notice who or what is around you. granted sometimes shit happens and you might get into a fight anyhow so learn real hand to hand combat in those intense moments you default to training if you dont have training things probably wont go good for you.

This video was halfway decent,I already knew about using the light to preemptively look for "badguys"/"bad actors" a distance away from you as you demonstrated when you shined the light towards the dumpsters/that truck

I like it when it's dark and quiet, different smell and energy in the air. Many good things happen after midnight.

Former night club security here. We called midnight the witching hour. It was always when the vibe went from fun to edgy.

I remember the streamlight stinger. My first "high end" flash light, eventually replaced the bulb with an LED. The thing is decently heavy and puts out 400 lumins. Now I have an olight m2r that puts out up to 1600 lumins. oh how technology has changed.

I'm glad someone finally covered this topic. I've been in Private Security since 1981 and I can tell you that a good flashlight will save your ass when the shit gets deep.

If you've been in private security since 1981, you're over 60. At that age, a flashlight won't really help you. Get a good reliable 9 millimeter and practice at the range a lot. Don't kid yourself that if you startle or blind an attacker momentarily with a flashlight you can handle the rest yourself. You probable could when you were younger, but not anymore. You're too old. Face reality.

Actually, I'm a guard. A flashlights awesome. A gun is great IF you know what you're doing and you're willing to kill someone. But a flashlight has been handy in my work quite a bit.

Even if someone has a bright light shining in their face, can they still charge you and take you down? I'm old and I will be done for if that happens. What can I do before I get charged short of not getting myself into that situation to begin with?
