I bought a jumping spider to get me over my arachnaphobia. It worked maybe a little too well - now I have a bunch of tarantulas and true spiders. They truly are the gateway spider.

The first Jumper I remember was a Salticus Scenicus, the Zebra Jumper. It actually gave a bit of a scare, because I did not see it on a Black and white marbled wall and then it jumped. Started learning about them since that day in 2001.

Their front eyes are huge tubes that are (for their size) some of the most powerful eyes on the planet. They can also see colors we can't including UV. Awesome little animals.

I want to handle another tarantula. Big fluffy mygalomorph! But I don't think I'm brave enough to handle an old world tarantula. I don't think I can do it. Without my heart pumping out of my chest. I'd have a panic attack.

I had a jumping spider who visited me every time I took a break in my yard. Friggin adorable. As a result, when I had a wolf spider in front of me - I just scooted her along & went on with my gardening. ❤

Menemerus bivittatus, maybe? I think they're the ones I used to see all the time as a kid. Also, why is it so hard to just find a comprehensive list of known/identified spiders that exist in my state? Sheesh!

I like jumping spiders more than others because they seem to be more alive and interact with the environment the way a curious puppy would. Always scanning their surroundings and planning and calculating their next jump. Also the lifeline they make when they jump is so cute.

I met a jumping spider who has found its way into the house and onto the ceiling a week or so ago. We have a contraption called "the Bug Vacuum" which was a toy intended for children interested in insects but has served us well as a relatively humane capture and release method. I caught it and took it outside, and while examining it sitting on the ground, it turned and looked directly at me as if it knew where my face was. Cool little dude.

PS her name is Rose bud, cuz thats what her little butt looks like

Great video! I absolutely love that "Wow! Wow! Wow!" feeling when you find a huge bug. As far as jumpers, I've always adored platycryptus undatus, the tan jumper. I've seen some decently huge ones, but aside from that, they seem to be the most consistently curious and "friendly." Most of the tan jumpers I've found have been eager to hop right onto my hand and take a look around.

I'm glad you took a jab at arachnophobia, just this week I had an interesting experience on the subject. I went on a camping and canoeing trip north of the st-Lawrence river with forty kids (fifteen year-olds) from the school I work in (I work as a science technician), and I knew that being in a national park near a clear, non-polluted lake would put us in a prime position to have a look at small wildlife. Sure enough, on the first nightfall, there's this girl coming at me screaming ''THAT SPIDER IS HUUUUUGE!!!'' with a stick in her hands. Before even looking at what she had found i knew she had captured a really big dolomedes tenebrosus since I knew we were right in her environment of choice. Since you're an inspiration to me, I decided to turn that event into a teachable moment. Luckily, the spider was unharmed, although scared at first. Her legs were tucked beneath her and she was not moving from the stick she was on, so I said that spider is absolutely terrified, let her relax and then we will observe her and talk about her. Most other kids were cringing in disgust at that point, but when the big dolomedes started to build back her confidence and explore the stick she was onto, and then, my arm, the horrified looks turned into inquisitiveness and they started to ask questions. Again, I pressed that although the spider can bite, I was not threatening to her and so, she was very docile to handle The feeling of satisfaction was neat, and even more when the kids asked me questions about other arthropods later during the excursion. I couldn't help but think about you and your channel. Thank you for what you're doing, your passion for wildlife is spreading.

Jack, you did it again!!! All your shows are SUPERB, ANND AMAZING!!! THIS ONE, THIS ONE!!!! MAN!!!! I want to ask you some questions if you don't mind. If any of these questions or all you don't want to answer, I totally understand. No matter what I still be watching your shows, and ask more questions. You said that you can find them everywhere (I'm not trying to be a smart ass at all. I respect you a lot. I had written to you before and you are always amazing to me). I live in Spring City, Tennessee zip 37381, and I haven't seen any "little angels" at all here. How is that now the little angels are becoming pets? How was this possible? Who started that new "fashion"? Who started to research about this little angels? Which one is your favorite spider? When you told your wife that you wanted to be bitten by spiders in the shows what was her reaction? One last thing, my wife doesn't like spiders, we don't have kids, but I have been talking to her and teaching her what I've learn in yours shows. Now she knows, and spiders are respected and not killed, and all the others. Thank you!!!! Martin Sordo Rivas

Love your video, Jack :) We don't have these cute spiders over here. Our jumping spider species are pretty..... (sorry) UGLY, to be honest :D But still, they are small enough for me to tolerate. The big ones... well, you said it: they are unpredictable, dark and they are so fast... I swear, they smell MY fear und run towards me, like a brave mouse towards a cat. I was concidering moving out at times, because... ok spidy, you win :D

I think I appreciate them more simply because I know that they are a thinking being. Regular spiders and bugs seem like they're just these raging beasts that just go at things with no thought, just instinct.

What's really neat is the difference in behavior among species. Certain types will willigly jump on your hand if offered, others, like _Phidippus_ are more cautious, and _Salticus_ tend to get scared and flee.

Jack: you made it to the end! You must really love jumpjng spiders. Me: I have no idea why you would have that impression Great video Jack! I recall that while they lack true ears, Deep Look did a video on how there are slits in their legs that help "hear" so to speak, though i may be misremembering and that could be for vibrations.

If you ever wanna see the wildlife in Eastish Texas near Huntsville I can take you straight to a lot of different spots for specific insects, snakes & mammals. I’ve explored and photographed a lot of the species out here some of which are normally uncommon in most areas. There’s a lot of creepy crawlers out here. It would be cool if you did a video out here!

Few weeks ago I seen the craziest thing ever. I watched one of these jumping spiders kill an orb weaver. The orb weaver was prob 3x larger but stood no chance. The intelligence of the jumping spider made it easy. The orb weaver didn’t even see it coming I don’t think. Or it thought the jumping spider would be easy prey😂
