The Best Starter in Pokemon Scarlet / Violet!

If you are going to play Pokemon Scarlet or Violet and wonder which starter you should choose, this video will hopefully help you decide, as I go over moves, abilities, and overall effectiveness against the majority of the game.
The best starter in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will depend on whether you want a difficult playthrough or the overall easiest playthrough. They all have different pros and cons, but you should get through the game fairly easily with all of them.

As a pokemon veteran just pick what ever starter you want and only use them on types they good agenst there are so many other pokemon you can get in game if your worried about late just have fun that's the point of pokemon 😉

As a real pokemon veteran, pick the fire starter and only use it in every fight. Never switch out for any other pokemon. Also spam the same attack over and over again, regardless of enemy type.

meowscsrada (sprigstitos final evo) has a 70 base power signature move that crits every time. If you multiply the stab and the crit you get a 210 power move and 420 when terastilized

Unless they changed it again this generation, critical hits only do 1.5 times damage unfortunately, same with stab and tera is also 1.5 I believe, but indeed still strong combo!

Problem with meowscarada is that it has a lot of weaknesses and low defensive stats which means - either you blast your opponent in 1st move or Meowscarad will literally get 1 shot by a wide variety of pokemons.

@@zelgadisgreywolf8313 stab + terra is a times 2, then the times 1.5 of the crit, and if you add a miracle seed you can add an extra 1.2 to the multiplier. Even if it is resisted, it is an INSANE blast, you can add hone claws to boost your attack and the damage will go even higher xd

@@zelgadisgreywolf8313 That's what Protean is for. Meowscaradra has the fastest speed with high attack. Its designed as a hit and run attacker. Do massive damage with protean, switch out with another pokemon, and then switch it back again. Out of the three starters this gen, the grass starter will be in the highest tiers compared to the lackluster other two. The fire starter is just too slow, and the Water starter doesn't have the speed to make it an Uber sweeper.

@@RockNRollSurf I believe they are all pretty good competitively. Unaware has always been a great way to stop sweepers, and Skeledirge has great bulk and gets access to will-o-wisp + hex, completely shutting down physical sweepers. Problem is it's lack of recovery moves, so it might be outperformed by other Unaware Pokemon, depends on the meta. Quaxly will be a great sweeper as in some cases you can swap it in as a revenge killer, forcing a switch as you go for Aqua Step, boosting it's speed, and then threaten to get +1 attack if it takes out the next pokemon, which could very quickly be GG.

I nearly always use the water starter anyway. And this one seems no different, but fuecoco is a cooler design all around IMO, and good grass Pokemon are often harder to find. Love the vid #MankeyMite

I'll get Fuecoco. I want to get to the end game as quickly as I can. I believe you can obtain the other two starters through breeding/trading. Another advantage to getting a starter through breeding is the chance of getting a shiny.

I was going to pick Fuecoco but am now going to choose Sprigatito as one of the Violet exclusives is fire ghost type (same as Fuecoco evolution), and water types are much more common than grass types imo.

Give meawscarada a miracle seed, if you terastalize and use his move, then he will almost 100% oneshot everything, and in case you are fighting, lets say a pure fire pokemon, you can use uturn, abusing its speed, and changing into a water. IMO sprigatito has the best coverage and the best burst potential, its just insanely strong. I used mine with its move, night slash, play rough, and u turn

Kinda torn between Sprigatito and Quaxly. I intended to pick Quaxly initially, don't know how to feel about it's final, but Water Fighting is a cool type combination. Meowscarada is also freaking cool. Really a tough one for me.

I get that! Meowscarada has a lot of weaknesses, but will do very well against a few types. You will do fine If you cover those weaknesses in your team. So I would go for Sprigatito if you think it looks much better than the other types, as you will probably have more fun, too:)

I started the game yesterday with my best friend, he picked Fuecoco and I picked Sprigatito, but I couldn't really enjoy the first few moments due to my OCD and really obsessive thoughts. It's a long story xD Deleted my save game after that and now I'm feeling a bit indecisive whether I should pick Sprigatito again xD In the end, it doesn't really matter, it's all about the fun! I like all of the starters, something about Quaquaval really itches me, it's so damn flamboyant but still amazing in it's own way xD

Meowscarada as it's my favorite of the three in terms of overall design. Plus it has my favorite typing, Dark. I don't mind the difficulty as Pokémon isn't known for it nowadays, so this will get me to think about my choices in Pokémon for my team. Which so far goes like this. I disagree about Sprigatito. He is definitely not difficult. Use him in a playthrough. Its not about the starter its about the team surrounding the starter. I'm half way thru the game and have no issues with my grass starter.

The starters won't get the hidden ability at the beginning, but you can get "Ability Patches" from 6-7star Tera Raid battles. So that could take a while!

Starts off slow and has to rely on the speed boosts to outspeed certain pokemon. Blaziken can use protect to get a free speed boost but Quaquaval has to take a hit to use aqua step to increase the speed.

I chose Sprigatito myself. I felt that Fuecoco and its evolutions were too slow, and there are better Water-types than Quaxly and its evolutions, namely Gyarados. Gyarados is such a powerhouse; while leveling Magikarp to Lv. 20 takes time, once it evolves Gyarados is extremely powerful for that point in the game, and it even learns Waterfall at Lv. 21! Crunch follows shortly thereafter at Lv. 24, and then Dragon Dance becomes available at Lv. 36. Dragon Dance is what truly allows Gyarados to quickly snowball into a powerful sweeper. Moveset-wise, I’d use Waterfall/Ice Fang or Crunch/Earthquake or Crunch/Dragon Dance. But back to Sprigatito and its evolution line. I tend to prefer offensive power and speed over other stats for in-game playthroughs, so Sprigatito made the most sense as a starter choice to me. Not to mention, Meowscarada’s Flower Trick is a highly-potent 70 base power Grass-move with a 100% critical hit ratio… it’s almost as good as Urshifu’s signature moves (Wicked Blow and Surging Strikes, both with an effective 75 base power as the former was nerfed to 75 BP in Gen 9). Meowscarada also has useful moves like Night Slash for secondary Dark STAB, as well as Play Rough and Hone Claws (the latter increasing attack while patching up Play Rough’s 90% accuracy). Acrobatics, Thunder Punch, Brick Break, and Low Kick also provide useful coverage.

Yea, Sprigatito is for sure easier to fit on a team, as there already are really good water and fire options! Going through the game I used Fuecoco, and used torch song to boost damage along with one flame charge to boost it's low speed, easily sweeping all the main trainers on it's own. Along with shadow ball for coverage, it's able to hit almost everything for at least neutral damage. The problem with Sprigatito is it's typing along with low bulk, being weak to so many attacks only makes it useful if it can take the opponent down with one hit, but if you make a strong team that covers all the other types, that won't be an issue of course. Which brings me back to my conclusion that Sprigatito is not the easiest choice, because of it's team requirememts, but for an experienced Pokemon player I think any of the three will do great:)

@@MankeyMite I think I also overthought that I would see the other two starters and their evolutions used by NPCs a little more too. Skeledirge does have weaknesses to both of the final evolutions of the other starters (Dark and Water, respectively) after all. However... it turns out that Nemona's Meowscarada doesn't even carry Dark STAB! (at least according to Serebii; it does have Shadow Claw in the final Nemona battle) I guess GF didn't want to handicap players who picked Fuecoco after all; in a similar vein, her Quaquaval also doesn't carry Fighting STAB until the final match, but Meowscarada's 100% critical-hit Flower Trick easily deals with Quaquaval before it can have a chance to use Brick Break.
