Bringing a map is always a good idea, if possible both phone and paper. Of course, I have forgotten maps too.

Never ever depend on your phone app for accurate navigation. Map and compass with skills on using them are necessary. Too many people rely on apps for daily living. But in the wilderness, map, compass and land nav skills are a must. IMO.
