If you like the OP-1, you're going to love "the piano".
@feltedsneed Жыл бұрын
When it came out the price was way lower (about $800) but since it became so popular TE decided to artificially bump the price by nearly 100%. Lack of "undo" button kills any creativity with it, and come on...the newest one costs nearly $2k and still no velocity sensitive keys 🤣🤣
@martinharding10 ай бұрын
The lack of undo is part of the charm and helps keep you in the analogue tape mindset. Back when people made music with actual tapes there was no undo. You might not like it and that's fine but this device is not for everyone. Also the OP-1 Field does have velocity sensitive keys. It achieves this by using the accelerometer so it is not as good as many other synths but it can do it and the implementation works surprisingly well.

What a beautiful notion, I never thought about that, a lot of people ended up being creative because they were stuck with a creation device they had not choice to learn and create with it.

You're not correct about the polaroid, the cameras lots of the pros used were really good, expensive models with nice lenses. Andy Warhol loved the slightly weird and very plastic Big Shot but it also took extremely good pictures that had good colour reproduction when it was new. The whole 'polaroid is junk but I love it' came with cost cutting in the '80s and using old expired film in the 2010s.

You are absolutely right. The 90-9-1 rule... YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! And that's why right here right now at minute five I'm ditching your video, closing the too many tabs I have open, and getting some shit done. Thanks for the kick in the ass.

The approach of hardware is great. Yet, neither the sound nor the workflow of this device could convince me. At that price there should be more imo✨

You summed up the Creation vs Consumption perfectly. I thought Koala Sampler was the app that would stop be buying a Teenage Engineering PO-33 (£5 vs £75). But ended up getting distracted or uninspired using the phone. I love the constraint of the PO-33, it's great for making a minute-long track.

I had a casio keyboard that looked a lot like that.. and it was a marvel at the time.. a little computer. An early 80s computer that was more like a glorified calculator.. but still at the time.

Well, no, my phone can surf the web, get directions through maps, play this video, save notes, schedule, and more. Considering I'm not a musician, that one is almost worthless to me. My phone is so much more useful. So I get what you actually mean, but the title as a general statement is still wrong.

Great video - but it's way too expensive. The original OP1 used to cost $500 or so. TE have learned that they can charge almost anything for their devices now because of the eye-candy and the status they've achieved. Read the reviews by other musicians... it's a nice tool to create sketches, to ideate on the go, but pros still can't do without professional tools. I think it's more affordable to use an iPad, which has great music making apps. Just need to learn to be more disciplined or go to places where there is no WIFI ;)

Thank you for this video, absolutely got my subscribe and am looking forward to more of your content! I have wanted one of these for years and years but have always had an excuse to NOT buy one. "I have tons of software that can do all that an I hardly use that stuff...", "Its too expensive for something that's just for you." or some variant thereof. This gave me a different lens to look through. I used to DJ and it was huge for me, my confidence, mental health, just overall well being. It felt like a hobby that was made for me. Then, the more life happened, the less room there was for that. Metophorically and literally. Now I'm in my 40s and I doubt there's much call for middle-age rave DJs these days, not to mention most of my vinyl has moved on as well. I have mixing software too, but nah. I miss shaping the music with wax and Technics. I have thought about it nearly every day since about 2007. I'm doin' in man, I'm going to stop considering and get one. Just the description of your experience with it was reminiscent of my waylaid euphoria. Much appreciated!
