I do not have the ef-m-55-200 but I do have the efs 55-250 and with the adapter is bigger but not huge and it is very light. And the IQ is very good for the price, especially if you find a good used one. And it is image stabilized. Later I bough the EF 70-200, a better lens indeed but I still appreciate the EFS. Other gear reviewers in YT present the product and never give their opinion, a practice that I think it is not good particularly in some cases when you would value their opinions. But being too quick in presenting an opinion is also a mistake. Anyways, good content. Best of luck with your channel.
@GrantMcWilliams2 жыл бұрын
Have you held the 55-200 or the 18-150 in your hand? They're nearly identical in size and weight so it doesn't matter which one. Anyway, they're 50 mm shorter (almost 2 inches), 10 mm smaller around and weigh almost exactly 1/2 what the 55-200 weighs. The 55-200 is a small, light lens for DSLRs but still pretty large for EF-M. I want more reach so I started maintaining a spreadsheet of various adapted lenses. The result of which makes me wish Canon had made more EF-M lenses. A compact lens on EF is still giant.
@gianni2272 Жыл бұрын
I first bought this lens, but I ended up returning it and changed to the Ef 70-300. I felt like the sharpness at 200 mm wasn’t the best. I guess it’s a nice lens for some casual photography but one has to temper the expectations.

@gianni22724 ай бұрын
@@mahirburaktekin8452 i would not recommend the 75-300, it is regarded as one of the worst canon lenses (ofc u could make any lens work but it would not be on my list tho). For the other two, in my experience the 70-300 is better but bigger. But also important: if u later upgrade to the R line u can still adapt that lens to it and not the efm one. Sth to consider …

Just ordered this lens because I have to shoot a swim meet next week lol, wish me luck. A faster lense simply isn't in my budget atm. The kit lens performed better than I expected to last time I was at the pool. I was nervous because I know my m50 in general to struggle with any low light situation so I'm hopeful I can get a decent enough result with the telephoto.
@GrantMcWilliams2 жыл бұрын
My 55-200 kind of surprised me. I was fairly against the lens for a long time based on what I'd heard and I already had the 18-150 which is a lot more useful to me. I needed a bit more reach for the birds outside my studio window and since the 55-200 is a tiny bit faster from 55-100 than the 18-150 is and the price was half what I paid for the 18-150 I went for it. For birds I can't really tell the difference but when I started taking photos of the moon I could get a level of sharpness from the 55-200 that I wasn't able to get with the 18-150. At first I thought it was the reach but even after setting both lenses to the same focal length the 55-200 was better. If I had to choose *one* lens I'd still take the 18-150 because it's versatile but the 55-200 has gained my respect. At one point before the pandemic there was a rumor that they were going to make a 100-300 f/5.6-8. I would have bought that lens too as I would still like to have more reach without adapting. Adapted lenses even if they're "small" are huge on EF-M.

I don’t know how this video passed by me while I was trying to decide on the 55-250 efs or this efm lens these past couple days! You answered a bunch of questions and concerns I had, I kind of felt that it was a bit expensive compared to the efs plus the adapter combo. I think I was maybe concerned that I should try to buy more ef s lenses in case I jump to that mount system at some point. But realistically I’ll probably stay with my canon m50 for so long that I don’t think it should matter that much. Thanks for the great vid!

Hello Mark! Which efs 55-250 did you try? There are several versions and the one which is awesome is the IS STM one, not the IS I nor the IS II. Maybe you tried one of these 2, because the image quality of the IS STM is fantastic and its stabilization too. But it is true that it is much bigger than the EF-M 55-200. In fact, I have thought of changing my ef-s version to the ef-m one due to its size, but people say that the ef-s is sharper, you have more reach (not crazy but there it is) and it is cheaper (if you already own the adapter, if not, it is similar). So the only drawback is its size in comparison with the ef-m. Thanks for the great video! Have a nice day 😁

I've had a similar experience. The EF-S 55-250 (IS STM specifically) is surprisingly sharp. Going for the lunar eclipse tonight with it. I wanted to get the EF-M 55-200 about a year ago but could never find it in stock, like anywhere, so went with the EF-S. Agreed, it is one bulky beast though.
@thetoyota86perspective542 жыл бұрын

There's no doubt the EF-M 55-200 IS STM is a good lens. I even managed to shoot some sports with it. I used it during a game with my local football (soccer) team and I got good results. Atleast until I got caught doing it. 😂Not sure about wildlife, because the AF-point on the M50 in servo mode is quite large. It's hard to pick out the eye of the bird/animal. I found using c-raw was better when shooting bursts. Shorter EVF-blackouts (or is it just my imagination?) and better buffer performance. The lens is good though.

Hmmmm, Intersting conclusion. Judging by optical mtf tests compairing these 2 lenses, the differences are quite small, except at maximum zoom-level where the 250mm is clearly sharper while 200mm makes a nose-dive in the mtf-curves. So unless the lense- converter degrades the image-quality the 250mm lense is the clear winner in sharpness at maximum zoom. In other words the 250mm lense is significantly sharper at 250mm than the 200m is at 200mm. So If You need it primarily for its performance at maximim zoom the 250mm seems like the best choice if You dont mind the added bulkiness of its bigger size and "clunky" converter. How ever I have not had the privilidge to compare these 2 lenses side by side in practical tests. Does any one have some pictures shot side by side ? Thanks for the review. CHEERS ! Per

@vincentnusunginya87612 жыл бұрын
Dang. I was just looking for an affordable zoom in this range and opted for the EF-S 55-250mm IS STM over this, based on a 6-year-old comparison video and the wider aperture. The other video claimed the opposite, that the EF-S is sharper than the EF-M 55-200mm. I guess I was also swayed because there's so much praise for the EF-S lens and not so much for the EF-M. I wish I could see direct comparison images, because now my head is full of doubts.

Accepted range is from 18mm-300 mm I have few options check it if they are good :) 1. Sigma 18-35mm 1.4 DC 2. Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III 3. Canon EFM 55-200mm 4. Canon EFM 18-150mm Thank you

The EF-S 55-250 with an EF/EF-S adapter is my favorite lens to use on my M50 and it's less than half the cost of this lens. You can get em used for $100 whereas a refurbished or used version of this EF-M lens is at least $225, plus you get that extra boost to 250mm vs 200mm. I just can't really see paying so much more for this lens just for a little less weight and not having to use an adapter. But if you already have an adapter (and you should because M-mount lenses are always more expensive than the huge collection of comparable EF lenses) then it's a no-brainer.

Native lenses are much sharper tho, like the sigma trio, or the efm 32mm is as sharp as a L lens

Couldn't agree more, I loved this lens with my M50, however......... the EF-M system is a dying system that Canon is no longer going to be putting any research into in the near future. It is one of the reasons, when almost ALL of my lenses were stolen coming back from Spain in Sept flying thru Dallas, I traded my M50 body for the new R7. I seriously considered moving up to the M50Mk2 but with the realization that Canon was abandoning the entire m-mount system I had to ask why spend $900 on a M50Mk2 kit plus all my lenses when for over just $1800 I could get the R7 with the 18-150mm kit lens, $249 the EF-S 18-55mm and for $150 the RF 50mm. Heck, the R10 is $500 cheaper than the R7 and a better camera than the M50Mk2, wouldn't you agree?

I will run my EF-M until it no longer makes sense. It's sad we won't get any more lenses and since Canon has abandoned the mount the third parties probably aren't going to jump in either. After my m6 II dies then I'll start looking around at what is available. Realistically I'm using my G5X II for travel photography more and not dragging the M6 around that much.

@Grant McWilliams I don't disagree with you. I loved my M50 but without the lenses it made no sense for me to continue with the platform. If it wasn't for the video creation aspect of the R7, I would have bought the R10

@@TheBlueCollarConservative Of course. I wouldn't be against an RF mount camera for studio work, I don't think it's possible to make an M6 II type of camera with RF but they may be able to get close with step down type RF-S lenses and a body just a few millimeters taller. I was super excited to get into EF-M because of it's portability but the reality is once you have a camera in your hands that won't fit in your pocket then weight is probably more important than size. Although having said that I have a sling bag that has my camera, the 32mm f/1.4, 22mm f/2, 56mm f/1.4, 18-150 and the EVF along with extra cards, batteries etc.. I used to put it in the corner of my carryon bag. Still, add 5 mm in each direction and it wouldn't be any different. Maybe they'll pull off a small RF.

In Australia the R7 (with kit lens) is 2.5 times the cost of the M50 mk II + kit lens. Just because the M50 isn't being supported doesn't mean existing bodies and lenses stop working I get it in your case because you essentially had to start over after losing your gear but here at least, there is a huge difference in cost between the M50 MK II and R7. The M50 filled a great void and was the most affordable, powerful mirrorless in its class. It's $900AUD here and the R7 is about $2300AUD
@GrantMcWilliams2 жыл бұрын
@@thetoyota86perspective54 I think the R7 and R10 have shown what a great deal the M6 II was as well. It's price with EVF is similar to the R10 but it's specs are closer to the R7. Both have some updated advantages but for the most part that's how the chips fall. And the M6 II is a 3 year old camera.

I think M system isn’t dead… now canon is promoting R… but lenses and cameras are big, just like small dslrs… so in the future I see R and M system, and M as winner in portability… and if you want and extra quality, put a EF L lenses on it..

Still lots of life left in these Cameras. Cameras are not like computers, they can have a 10+ year life. Even if canon does not make any more lenses for them.
