I’ve had the Tiger 900 GT Pro for one month now after changing from a Honda CB650R. I commute into London and found the Tiger to be so much more comfortable and the weather protection great. Took me a couple of weeks to get used to the weight difference but ok when I did. The seat height set at the lowest of 810mm is the same as the Honda but for some reason felt a little taller but I got used to that also at 5ft 7.Not regretting the change at all and absolutely love the Triumph after having never considered an adventure bike before.

Nice vid 👍 I used a Tiger 800 for commuting for almost 3 years. 40,000 miles covered in all sorts of weather. I've ridden all sorts of bikes for commuting and find the adventure bikes suit me best. So when it came to wanting a change, I bought the KTM 790 Adv S. The low slung tanks, make it very easy to maneuver and manhandle 👍 I wouldn't mind a Triumph Speed twin as a second bike but I'm not one for cleaning bugs off bikes after a ride lol

Pre-covid I commuted daily, all year round, on a Tiger 1200 XRX. My ride was around 60 miles from Cambridge to Canary Wharf. Mostly I chose the motorway route for speed but there is also a very nice parallel A and B road route of you fancy a more engaging ride and have 20 mins extra to spare. I had secure underground parking at the office so i could change clothes and leave the bike gear on the bike all day. A real bonus. The real beauty of bike commuting is the consistency of time, it takes you the same time, more or less, every day regardless of traffic conditions. If you dress for the conditions then you are never cold either. The only thing that prevented me using the bile was snow. Even I am not that crazy.

Have the 2019 800 XCA and it’s a great 3-season commuter (plus good for the off-road stuff) and agree with all your points. The only drawback is the heat it puts out on your right leg so I switch to naked bike for the summer months in Southern California.

I have an Indian Scout as a commuter. I think my ultimate commuter motorcycle would be a Indian Scout with a 4 gallon fuel tank, fuel gauge, stock windshield and/or fairing, matching hard locking panniers, traction control and ride modes. But since that doesn’t exist the ultimate commuter motorcycle (IMO) would be the Yamaha Tracer 900gt or the BMW r900xr. By the way... great video👏

Difficult topic to be honest. You gave clear examples of going through your neck of the woods. Well done! 65 miles round trip is my short trip 95 miles if i take the scenic route. I have about 2 miles total of 'in town'. Currently doing it on my Softail Heritage windshield is very nice. I did this same commute on my Speed Triple and after a couple years, the wind blast started to get to me to be honest. I am fancying a new Tiger 1200 for the future..we'll see!

I don't think you realise how hard it is for smaller channels to create this kind of content. They can't just call up KTM and say "I want this bike on this date in this location for this amount of time". They have to work with what is local to them, and who will work with them.

I'm lucky enough to have a Speed Twin and Tiger 800 and without doubt the tiger is a belter of a commuter tool, it can almost ride its self, it's such a smooth easy no effort bike. If I had to have just one bike this would be it, it does everything very well. He Speed Twin it a boot around town but doesn't much like going below 30 in 4th so you are mostly in 2nd or 3rd if your journey is mostly built up town riding. Full of grunt and is short and flickable, great brakes and narrow for filtering. Shame the Mayor/Government haven't pushed and encouraged greater use of powered two wheel transport, loads of bicycle and push scooter ,walking messages . A quick low cost transport alternative to buses, trains , tube, cabs and cars.
@motobob
@motobob 4 жыл бұрын
Agreed - I can understand pushing cycling within the city because it's greener and better for your health. But there are plenty of folks commuting in from distances that they can cycle or run, and the train is totally off the cards for most atm. Biking seems like the best bet

Plus they ignor the fact that increasing the ratio of bikes to cars means way less traffic, way less fumes and makes it far more safe for bikes, bikes and pedestrians. The war on motorcycles has served noone except car companies.

Why the negative comments? It clearly says paid promotion at the beginning, yes it effectively an ad, but it’s an advert for something he is passionate about, he OWNS a triumph. He is entitled to make money from he’s passion. Lets face it, if triumph offered you money to ride around on there bikes you would snap it up with your chubby little keyboard warrior fingers. He is out there doing it, releasing great informative vids, your trawling through youtube looking for things to complain about. Tragic.

I essentially use my bike to commute, so I wanted to change for a lighter bike than I currently have. I was looking for a bike a bit sporty, agile and nimble. I didn't want to choose a sport bike to take care of my wrists and my back, but a nice one easy to recognize, well built and having a good value for money. At least, I ordered a 765 Street Triple R with some additional equipment 😍 I'm looking forward to getting it 🤩

Okay for me as a 120 daily commuter, mostly A and M roads I have the perfect motor in a 1200 GSA BMW; loads of torque, plenty or road presence and low maintenance with the shaft drive. Interestingly I used to have the 1200 Explorer (Tiger 1200 now) which was just too unwilling and top heavy, but I bet the new 900 would be a good alternative. For lower mileage commuting any of these three would be a lot of fun👌

My old 2000 VFR 800 was the best all-rounder I've ever owned. It was so beautiful and graceful in every situation ( In Canada it came in this Royal Blue-just spectacular). The sound with a Two Brothers exhaust on it...was magic. It was pricey though, but worth every cent.

I have the Scrambler 1200 XE. With an additional flyscreen and pannier it’s got the character plus a little more nimble than a Tiger. In terms of commuting it’s not going to lane filter as easy as a narrow sports bike. However the trade off is well worth it. The torque on the bonnieville engine is just mesmerising.

I have a BMW R nine T, which is generally good because with freeway traffic in Los Angeles you rarely get up to highway speed and it is tolerable for 6 to 10mi (I also put a Dart screen on it which helps a bit). The ultimate cost no object commuting bike for me would be a Honda Africa Twin with a DCT and at least a top case.

I would choose niether, since I bought an RnineT. I had a fully specced Honda CB650R, which was a GREAT bike. But I found myself lusting for simplicity and feel. Hence the RnineT. I don't ride motorways that often, therefore, I dont mind the wind blast or longer distances - Because it's suppose to be windy when riding a bike, and you are suppose to be sore after a day of riding 😉 If Triumph decided to add cruise control to the the Street Twin, which they might for 2021, as a contender to the Aprilla Tuono 660, then I would be at a crossroad for choosing. In conclusion for me personaly, it's about the feel. As a side note, thanks again Motobob for great videos and in-depth reviews, im a HUGE fan.

The Triumph Trophy is... or was... after Triumph decided to discontinue the bike... at fault for sinking sales was certainly that the bike was rarely updated, compared to its German competitor... the BMW R model RT which received update after update... it was a great bike, which Triumph could have refined to show its resilience.... but... that didn't happen... but maybe... just maybe... Triumph will surprise us again... I would have... on the celebration of Triumph 's accomplishment used Scramblers and Cruisers/Bobbers as separate listings, even though Triumph didn't list them separate... however, in terms of market importance I believe they earned the recommendation for this review... well done mate

I used to commute to London from Chelmsford Essex on my street triple and never found it an issue, stopped only because it was stolen ..twice! So for the last year or so it’s been a weekend toy, it also served me well on a 5 day trip to France last year. With the current situation though I’m seriously considering commuting on it again as I shall definitely not be using public transport. I am tempted to test ride a street twin to see if it’s a more sedate and relaxed ride than the STRiple, maybe I’m getting too old...👍

I now have a Tiger GT Pro which is way more comfortable for all day rides. I am surprised how agile the Tiger feels. Great balance and a better quick shifter than i had on my RS. Yeah, I can see that even 125cc scooters in 30 MPH town centres are probably one of the best commuters. Cost, storage, road-tax, fuel consumption, a bit of weather protection and no gears to worry about, and they're more than quick enough for 30 MPH traffic. Although I don't think I'll be swapping my Speed Twin for one, but then I don't commute on it , I just blast around 60 MPH country lanes in nice weather for entertainment, for which 125cc scooters aren't as good. But if I did commute on 30 MPH roads, yeah I might get 125cc scooter. Also I'd be less precious about it getting stolen.

I would love to see a shaft drive on the 900 tiger just for one less thing to do on day in day out riding ..A wind sheild and shaft on a T 100 with a 250 mile range gas tank , rack for rain gear would be all I would need ..I love the polite low end pull of the modern 900 Bonny in traffic ... Great clip ...Thanks .Guy

Shaft drive is definitely a big plus, but you don't find many in the middleweight adv segment. Only the Moto Guzzi V85TT perhaps? Otherwise it's the 1200s etc.

I currently commute with a Svartpilen 401. But I’m looking to trade up to a triumph that will have more punch for weekend rides in back roads. I’m having a really hard time deciding between a Street Triple RS and a Speed Twin, or even a Thruxton R. This video was great but didn’t make it any easier to decide!

It depends where your nearest dealership is. If BMW was nearby I’d consider the latest BMW F900XR - a good quality middle way between Tiger and Speedy. Having said that I’m a Speed Twin owner, but that is because I’m no longer a commuter and my Triumph dealership is close and really reliable.

For me, commuting in heavy traffic would exclude a cumbersome adventure bike, so it'd probably be naked or classic for me. I find my light(ish) street twin perfect for this, although I do find myself reaching for my little manual Vespa in extremely congested conditions!!!

There's definitely something to be said for a little scooter, although the Street Twin is almost as narrow. There's a bit of extra weight though...

I usually ride a Dash 8 when commuting. In the summer, just for fun, I take the bike. 1000 mile each way on a Street Twin. The bike is faster than I am. Or the short hope just under 500. After oct 1 Back to the Dash 8. Would an adventure be better? For my commute probably, Street twin is perfect for me most days. I enjoy the commute. I don’t do it every day. Beats the heck out of my old KH 100. Which I commuted on year round in back in collage. It was a good little commuter.
@nestorasbellas6604

To commute pick up a scooter :) Nothing can beat it really. Storage to put rain gear and helm, plus your lock to keep your bike safer, protection from the elements, especially rain and water on the road, economy. Keep it small displacement and light, to minimize running costs and annual costs and then buy a motorcycle for when you feel like riding out of town, or for holidays. Especially with ownership prices going as high as 15-20k euro, the excuse of being able to afford one bike only, holds a lot of water! That would be true if your motorcycle is a CB500X at best but with a Triumph... Myself I am having a Piaggio Medley 150 and a Moto Guzzi V7iii. Oddly enough, I enjoy commuting with both, even though riding the V7iii in traffic is not the easiest thing to do! Looking at the speed twin though is making me feel tempted to go for it and swap the V7iii. Scrambler 1200 XE is also a tempting alternative, especially if I feel cramped on the speed twin (being 6ft tall and 250lb "light"!) Nice one m8, solid idea for a video series!

I want them ALL , plus a Rocket. Although I don't see the Rocket being very good for commuting. One thing that amuses me is in the 1950s the Tiger name ( my Father had a 1954 Tiger T110 ) was applied to what eventually became the Bonneville. The original Bonneville was just a slightly more tuned up T110 . Now the Tiger looks nothing like a Bonneville. Although I can see why "Tiger" is a good name for an adventure bike.

Nice video. I’m not sure how the critics expect you to make a video like this without help from a specific brand. The comments you make about the types of bikes are applicable to other brands too if people are determined to buy themselves an inferior machine (there’s my colours pinned to the mast). I’ve got a Street Triple RS and I think it being light and nimble really help with the commute (and it’s hooligan attributes do no harm either). I previously owned a Tiger 800 and for me it was a bit big. If I used it’s luggage it was nearly as wide as a car and if I used soft luggage then I wasn’t any better off than I am with my RS (I use a Kriega tailpack on my passenger seat).

Allot of common sense in your review. My favorite would be the speed twin after owning 7 Trumpets. Common sense would say the 900 Tiger. I cant get on a motorcycle with a seat height of 32 inches or about 850 mm for allot of reasons at 71 with over 50 years of off road/mostly riding. The KTM 790s is the other contender for my next purchase. I have ridden the 790s, I have not ridden a current offering of Tiger, we sill see. Like your reviews.

Currently have a tiger 800. For me its a little too tall (I don't have long legs). It's fine for general riding but makes filtering more difficult as I have to plan my stops. I had a street triple R gen 2 a few years back. That was a much better fit. The Tiger would be great for long distance and more motorway stuff, but sadly as I do both it will be going up for sale soon. If you are taller than 5ft7 you'll probably not have any issues.

Hello from India! I commute in the epicly punishing roads and climes of Mumbai, India. Heat is an issue. Tarmac is awful, in both surface quality as well as the choice of material used. Most "big bikes" (anything above 600cc),and even the ktm 390 series motorcycles, get totally bogged down in heavy traffic, and are even brought to a stop. It happened to my old speed triple often. My 2019 765 RS, however, is an ABSOLUTE trooper! While the tiger might be better for the road conditions, the weight and performance of the 765 is second to none. Amazing. I love this bike. I miss the speedy, cuz first love. But this bike is just so wondrous.

Good video however I think it should be style of bike not type, as the naked and retro are basically same type of bike as the speed twin is a naked bike. Also because of that, it's obviously purely out of preference. Overall, probably should of picked better topic to compare the Triumph range showcased here. Just an observation, keep up the good work.

Street Triple is out of consideration right off the bat as it has no means of carting anything. I don't commute anymore, but when I did, the differences in temps from morning to evening could be substantial, to say nothing of the possibility of rain. Given my commutes were never thru busy city streets where lane splitting was legal and regular, saddlebags on either of the others would be fine. If I had to commute thru London, the 900 is the only bike. Put a top box on it and it's got all the storage I'd need with none of the width of bags.
