WATCH CHRONICLER

Күн бұрын

In this video, I would like to answer a very common video request about watches which display only the time without any additional features for enhanced aesthetic purity. The watches included in this video vary from an affordable field watch from hamilton through a beautiful pilot's watch from Hanhart and a clever hybrid between a dress watch and a sport watch from Nomos.
Featured Watches:
-Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical
-Hanhart Pioneer Preventor9
-Longines Heritage 1945
-Tudor Heritage Black Bay Fifty-Eight
-Nomos Ahoi & Ahoi Atlantic

The Longines 1945 is stunning.

Stunning... Except for that extremely unbalanced placement of the small seconds dial being placed too closed to the center of the dial and not equidistant from the dial center and the edge of the dial. I think this is due to the movement size relative to the dial size.

I think a lot of people prefer time-only watches ( me included), because 90% of all entry to mid-range watch companies manage to destroy like every dial with a bad executed date complication. Oh and i forgot: Very detailled video as always Armand!

Totally agree. Simplicity and a balanced dial are beautiful compared to the average watch... Or even higher end brands like IWC

Huh?? Which watches are you talking about that have a badly made day/date? This is the first time I've seen this complaint, so it seems you don't speak for a lot of people, and it's just your personal taste for a no-date watch...

Love no date watches, all I need is the time. I understand the appeal of a date function, but an unencumbered dial is a thing of beauty as well.

I love no date watches. The only thing is I use the date window extremely often so a watch without one is of limited use to me. Tho that longines is handsome enough to make me think twice. Great video as always.

Time Only, Brilliant! My favourite type of watch (with or without seconds hands) - keep it simple. Spoilt for choice as for which watches to review, but kept to a good price range. Thanks Armand.

That Longines would be perfect but it has my biggest watch peeve - the hour and minute hands appear to be nearly the same length, which requires an extra moment for the brain to figure out when checking the time. Otherwise it's perfect, my favorite of the bunch. Also, Timex Vintage Marlin could use an honorable mention. It's a steal too at $200 USD, gray market.

Just wanted to say that your presentation of “My Favorite Micro brands” caused me to relentlessly hunt and acquire the rare Halios Puck 2 in blue, and the one that was in your video, the Halios Puck 1 in black! Love your shows and I always look forward to learn more.

The Longines takes it for me but my current favourite for a no date is the gorgeous Tissot Antimagnetique. Do LOVE a no date though unless that date is at 6pm Oris Aquis for example to give symmetry.

Great video (as always) and one that I particularly enjoyed. I find myself really drawn to time-only pieces and the examples on this video - nomos aside- have all caught my eye previously. I have a real penchant for Longines Heritage models and therefore the 1945 really stands out to me. Be really interested to try it on the wrist.

Good video. Another point about the attraction of time-only watches is that if you own/wear multiple pieces, you don't have to reset the date just to wear it for a day or so. I didn't realize that the Tudor is basically an updated original spec Rolex; I do like the looks and size of the vintage ones better. I like some of the Nomos line too. I'm currently waiting on delivery of my Max Bill auto. My other main watch is a Seiko SARB0035.

Thank you Armand, I've wanted to see a video that focuses on watch with the small second and you made it! I really like the Hanhart, Longines, and the Nomos! I perfer the Hanhart of the thee, but they had to mess up the watch by putting the small seconds at the 9 instead of the 6 o'clock position. Wish you would've made the video with all the watches having the small seconds.

The choice of the Tudor 58 is appropriate imho : even if it is a three-hand only watch, the bezel offer a lot of functionality: Elapse, Count-down, Date and even GMT. Thanks for the video

That Longines is lovely, I've wanted a vintage coin-cased 12.68 for a while, but that modern one looks excellent... Far too large though, the originals are around 32mm, and wear big, so a 40mm is just too much.

I really enjoyed your great video. I love the simple watches that the only complication I can live with is the chronograph function only because my job requires. Also so lazy that I hate correcting day/date. Therefore time-only simple dress watch is for me. In this context, I like Stowa Antea Classic than Nomos. These two watches are quite similar in design but Nomos is more welcomed by many and twice more expensive. The reasons why I prefer Stowa Antea is, first, Antea is more true to Bauhouse design. I love the Bauhouse style number indicies however, Nomos has less beautiful number indices rather more stick indices. You can find simple stick indices even at the cheap Chinese fashion watches. Second, I do not like the crown guard of Nomos. The essence of Bauhouse design is simplicity. Nomos' crown guard looks unnecessary addition to the simple design. Why a dress watch requires crown guard? It is not for sports or utility function. Third, about the half the price, I can enjoy the beautiful Bauhouse design. Hope you can do some review on the Stowa Antea in the future. Thanks.

It appears the NATO straps pictured come with these watches. A web search for “hamilton nato strap” will reveal a Hamilton site for straps. Limiting the search on that site will reveal NATO straps, 4 or 5 of which are this style with leather keepers. (Sept 2019) Because of link rot I hesitate posting URLs.

"Hamilton Khaki [...] aesthetically pleasing" - The pointless 24 hour dial is aesthetically pleasing? It is a silly affectation. Anyone with an IQ over 60 can figure out 12 -> 24 hour scale. The dual scale on the watch just makes it messy and harder to read at a glance. The original plane tool watches were far larger, so don't confuse the two.
