The A's coliseum reminds me a lot of the 49er's old stadium Candlestick Park. It was outdated, had the bathroom troughs, parking was abysmal, but there was an unspeakable charm to it all. There was an energy to the park that carried over from it's storied history, like you knew great teams and moments happened in that same stadium, much like the A's of old. As a Giants fan it'll be sad to see them go.

I'm a Giants fan & I love the A's stadium. The games were always cheaper than Candlestick when I was a kid. The weather was better, plus security didn't care if my dad & I snuck down from the rafters in the 3rd inning. Meaning I got to see more baseball in Oakland than I did in SF (not to mention getting to/from Candlestick was always a nightmare). The image I have of Oakland's stadium in my head is from Vernon Wells, then the center fielder for the Blue Jays, when he said that he was getting heckled by someone in the stands, and he turned around to say something, and as he started to speak, some other fan charged the heckler, who TOSSED THE DUDE DOWN A FLIGHT OF STAIRS. Needless to say, Vernon turned around and just minded his own business for the rest of the game.

i went in the summer of 1999 to an informational gathering of 3 MLB Umpires, held in Baltimore, which they gave before umping the bases later that day at Oriole Park (good P.R. move, since they just had abandoned a Mass Resignation plan that they tried, at the tail-end of their multi-year contract). At that gathering, another attendee asked the three base umps about which MLB stadium city had the fans who were most-vicious towards MLB Umpires..This group of Tim Tschida, Al Clark & Larry Young answered: "Oakland".

@@AdamDoesNotExist The best fan experience is where the true fans are. It doesn't matter the building. A's fans are blue collar and Giants fans have been more corporate since they moved Pac bell/ Att/ Oracle. But unfortunately pro sports chase upper middle class and corporate fans than they care about the everyday fan. Look at what happened to the 49ers/Raiders and Warriors. As a Padres fan that now lives in the bay & goes to an occasional game at Oracle I totally agree about Giants fans. There’s a lot of them & they show up, but they have weird rules like not standing & yelling at kids who start a wave to “STOP & PAY ATTENTION TO THE GAME” that make the atmosphere feel a little stuffy. Some of my favorite memories as a kid were ridiculously long waves that did multiple laps around Petco with what seemed like the entire stadium participating, or everyone standing and cheering when we heard those bells start ringing in the 9th. #AthelticSupporter right here! I was there in early June, saw the Athletics vs the Blue Jays...being from Canada, I still went for the A's (Toronto, ugh). The whole point of the trip was to see the Coliseum before it's shuttered but I really wished we could've seen a game vs the Giants at Oracle Park that same weekend....next time. As for the Coliseum...it's a big concrete monstrosity that now blocks out the view of the mountains, but when you're sitting in the stands watching the game, it was still a fun time. I'm most familiar with T-Mobile Park in Seattle (which honestly is a great stadium too) but I can easily agree that Oracle Park definitely is on the very top of my list of parks to visit...besides Wrigley and Fenway for a game, which are clearly in a "different ballpark" altogether.

My goal is to travel to every MLB stadium since they all are very different. I timed my SFO and Oakland visit where there were games 1 day after each other. I did Oracle Park first and took a guided tour. It really is a beautiful stadium that overlooks the bay. The unique food item as you pointed out was the crab sandwich....but I didn't like it, that's more personal preference. I did have a bad experience where the line for Irish coffee was so long and the cashier was so slow that it took 3 innings for me and then they were cutting off the alcohol line just as I got to the front...and of course they were out of coffee, but then there was a really nice firework show. I'd definitely go again. As for O. Co., the ride out there isn't that bad on the connector. I liked the stadium in the sense that it's the last of the generation of "dumpy stadiums" of the past. I forget what I ate at this one. That club area was really nice and I took a pic with one of the elephants up there. I sat in the empty upper deck for a bit and thought that the sightlines must have been great for football when the Raiders played there. It is a relic, in every sense of the word.

I’m glad that the Mets biggest star, Mike Piazza, won it for them on 9-21-01. Back to the subject at hand, I hate it for the A’s fans. They were plenty loyal and weren’t the issue. I imagine you grew up as a kid going to the Coliseum and rooting for the A's and if you did I totally understand your attachment. I grew up rooting for the Orioles and spending my summers at Memorial Stadium, the largest outdoor insane asylum. I have grown to love and appreciate Camden Yards over the years but in its infancy I referred to it as Oriole Park at Crammed IN Yards. The location felt forced onto a postage stamp in downtown Baltimore and when you went to a game you had to search for parking in garages. At Memorial you parked in and around the outside neighborhood on a local Church lot who was able to use their lot as a fundraiser and the parking was way cheaper. Then you walked up sidewalks through neighborhoods saying hello to people on the street and on their porches along the way. The final years at Memorial we could decide to go to the game 90 minutes before first pitch and have no problem walking up to the ticket booth and into the stadium. The first several years at Camden Yards you had to plan your game day experience weeks or months in advance because it was the place to be and corporate seats were everywhere.

NY Giants hat is a good move; it worked for Willie Mays. Remember, you do not have to become a Giants fan; it is enough to be a Dodgers hater.

If not this season, absolutely next season. I just found out parking in Hayward is free which I don't think exists at any other sporting event on earth!

@@AdamDoesNotExist if your there I highly recommend sitting in the supporters section, 5/6 of the seating setups are all General Admission including the supporters group so if you want to get the best vibe you can get it for the same price as a ticket at the very top of the stadium. And if not this year than you know where to find it next year

@@datwee7576 Thanks for the tip! Is that the "Deep Roots" section on the chart? And yeah I don't know how you true fans feel about the move to the Coliseum, but I think it's pretty cool.
@datwee75762 ай бұрын
@@AdamDoesNotExist yes it’s the Deep Roots section. As an aside since a lot of people hang over the edge with flags and what not you can find a pretty comfy spot in the first or second row of the supporters section with almost no trouble assuming your on time so you can be next to the drummers and what not if that’s your thing. As for the fans I think everyone and their mom is aggressively ready to take up the Coliseum. Hayward is lovely and has an incredible view from the stadium but everyone understands it’s a temporary stadium and the hype around the Coliseum is spreading like wildfire

I’ve never understood why Dodger Stadium is raved so high, looks ugly and hard to get to. Is it high cause it’s in LA? Genuine question
@AdamDoesNotExist17 күн бұрын
I think it is the LA factor. Maybe it's the contrast between the city, and the relatively sparse canyon? Maybe the history? I don't know.

Hard to get out of too. I guess it's the same thing. No public transit.

PNC Park in Pitsburgh is considered the best Baseball Stadium and I say this as an Orioles fan with Camden Yards.Oracle Park is for sure a Top 3 Ballpark though.

I love Oracle Park, and I’m a Giants fan, but I’m very sad about the A’s leaving us and The Coliseum. Despite rivalry we’re brothers. FJF sell the team

A's fan for 44 years here. It's a low down dirty shame what's happening. Switching to the Giants is a hard pill to swallow, but I feel Giants have made impressive moves to incentivise us with BoMel, Chappy and now Cahna. The halloween colors are starting to grow on me. The stadium is amazing. I think a few more changes here and there will turn things around and the A's will be a bittersweet memory.

It’s a cute stadium…not a lot of fans there…talking about the Giants stadium….Going to miss the Oakland Coliseum…Sad place to go to a game this year..They were playing Boston and 5,000 people there and I got front row parking…That would never happen at a Dodgers game …
