I live in a mostly spanish speaking area in south Texas. As an older white guy I'm not sure I can pick this up but I want to. I watched a few of your videos and decided to go to your first one and go through all of them. I am a teacher and most of my students are from Mexico or are Mexican and I'd like to be better at communicating with them so that they can get more out of my courses. I did what you said and changed the language on my phone and also downloaded a book I am familiar with in spanish. Hope old dogs can learn new tricks. God bless.

Hola, I've recently gotten into your channel and I think you do a great job. Since I'm blind, I found new, interesting ways to adapt for me, which is basicaly audio based language learning. I started to learn Spanish from youtube afew years ago, but because I was lazy and burned out, I gave up. I chose a Spanish teacher on Italki the last week (a teacher is a great way of pushing towards the motivation for me) and I can say now I'm getting back on the track. Even if I have latin American friends, this is the way that I found out to be the most appealing for me, to find a teacher and alternate the grammar lessons etc with youtube videos. Thank you so much for doing this channel; your way of speaking is tremendously clear, beautiful and easy to understand. I hope to receive an answer in Spanish, to be completely honest. Adiós!

This is a very good video about how to learn and acquire a language. She emphasizes the 2 inputs;listening and reading, as well the outputs;speaking and writing. Repetition is key. I am finding as an older adult learner of Spanish that I must repeat the listening and reading more times than I imagined. I thought 5 or 10 times would be enough. No, for me it’s more like 100+ (For encouragement, I now try to imagine how many times a child hears or reads the same words and phrases in their native language.) She says in this video to repeat until you are bored or tired of it. I agree and would add that you need repeat “until you are bored” for many, many days. Then go back and repeat again days, weeks and even months later. I have found that children’s books are excellent source for reading. For example the “Junie B. Jones” series of books contain many common words and phrases. Also, the “Judy Blume” books are very good. She describes in this video that she read and reread several books like these. It is important to read them many times. I have found these in both English and Spanish in my local library.

Thank YOU so much!! I'm so glad you liked it! I must say though that if you are a beginner in any language at first it's going to be more difficult and the compromise needed is even bigger than for people intermediate or advanced, because for example for doing a simple shopping list if you don't know the vocabulary it's going to take you more time, but I believe taht with time and dedication everyhting is possible, so keep up the work and find new ways to get a bit of that motivation or inspiration that we sometimes really need!

Spanish After Hours that was bad wording by me. I meant that before watching this video I had heard about watching the same thing multiple times and that whole technique but never really understood why you would want to watch the same thing so many times instead going for variety but your video helped me understand why and I ended up trying it out today with a french video. It was great to be able to understand a full 5 minute natively spoken french video and quite motivational. Secondly your speaking speed was perfect in the video, dunno about you but I myself am not a fan of people who don't cut to the chase and do really slow paced videos. Sorry for the bad wording again, keep up the hard work please 😁

@@Astro_Fizix Ahh!! Okay!! I am so glad then!! Yeah, a lot of people told me it was too slow, but I have to agree with you, cut to the chase! And I'm so glad that you tried it!!! For real it makes me so excited to hear about progress and even more so when it's not because you are in front of a book, but because you are diving in the language!
