These jack stands look great and I was about to buy two of them even though they are priced way too high. Then at the buy point, I saw the shipping cost. Ridiculous! I don't mind paying top dollar for a useful product but I won't be ripped off. I'll find another option. Thanks for a great video though!

that jack stand is so cool, it'd work on my vw golf, too. So many of unibody (and pinch welded ones) also consumes the only jackup points and there are so many tricks to lift the whole car on jack stands.

@@i1Tesla Yes, but you already have a floor jack to raise a wheel, which in turn raise one other wheel since the body is so rigid. Then you can fit a bottle jack to raise it to where you want. Safe jack is great but it's just too expensive for me. And, you're right in that bottle jack stand won't fit by itself.

Nice solution stock heights. But as soon as you lower your car, be warned, you won’t be able to use those jack stands. There is very little clearance to get the harbor freight jack under my lowered car. I guess you could run the car up on 4x4s or something though..👍
@i1Tesla
@i1Tesla 5 жыл бұрын
If the car is lowered then you will have to drive it up on a 2x4. Stock ride height has about 1/2 inch clearance. Here is the jack I bought. www.harborfreight.com/3-ton-low-profile-steel-heavy-duty-floor-jack-with-rapid-pump-64264.html

I love those jack stands, except one minor detail. That set-up won't fit under a P3D with a flat tire. Test it you'll see. Only like 3 1/2" of ground clearance when lifting with a flat tire. Might work with inflated tire...???!!!
@i1Tesla
@i1Tesla 5 жыл бұрын
You wont use this to fix a flat tire. You will just use the jack to remove the tire. Also remember the car is super rigid and you could put the jack on the back or front jack point and lift the whole side of the car. Then place the jack stand under and lower the car. That way you are taking the rim and tire to the shop to get fixed.

One of my reasons for buying my Model 3 was not having to jack it up as I would do for my previous cars to change the oil. A long time ago I would do my own brakes as well, and the Prius I had never needed them done, nor will the Tesla for the same reason, regenerative braking and and the fact that I no longer feel the need to ruin my tires with sports car driving like i used to do way back when. As clever as these jackstands are, I suspect a second set of Harbor Freight cheapies, used with a bar like the one they have with bolt through it and a piece of plywood under would do the same thing doubled up to either side of the jack I already have. The Tesla field service rep. who rotated my tires for me in my driveway showed that the car was so stiff he could do it on each side with just one lift at the back jack point, as your experience showed.

Did you ever get a real answer - generally loosen the nuts (just a 1/4 turn or less) before jacking a car - same with tightening, do the final torquing on the ground - then take the car for a short drive and recheck - just in case something was a bit skewif.. - Loosening while on a jack or stand just results in danger or spinning wheels - Of course if using a rattle gun - do your worst and pay the experts when it all goes wrong, lol.. (mechanical aptitude varies widely - fanboi commenters sometimes appear better off getting expert help)... Always wise to limit liability and seek expert advice,

A whole new generation of car enthusiasts is buying Tesla's, learning amazing things about them, and not realizing it just normal car stuff. (yes, many sports cars, even convertibles, you jack up one corner and both wheels on that side come up). And they don't "drive worse" by any measure other than not having instant torque. Which is too bad, I like instant torque. For Tesla's to start competing in the "driving well" space they need to get lighter and/or add limited slips (or torque vectoring) along with more track/sport mode options. Hopefully soon!

Ok i am trying to understand the point with these so bear with me. If you are going to be jacking up one side at a time what is the purpose of those vs a normal puck with a jack for changing your wheels? I am assuming this is for more permanent jobs where the car needs to stay in the air for longer time (f.e. painting calipers) I have seen people writing that you might damage the roof glass if you lift one side at a time to change the wheels but this system doesnt really help much with this...

Hi- What is the clearance you have between floor and jack point? The stand and adapter plate appear to take up quite a bit of the available clearance. The available clearance would be affected by the rim size and tire setup you have, right? What size rim and tire do you have? What is the width of your floor jack? It obviously has to fit between the legs of the stand. I believe aluminum jacks have a side handle that would interfere with one of the legs. Thanks.
