I love the look of Dahlias, I don't see them in my country yet so hopfully one day i will get to grow them. Thanks for the planting tips!

Found dahlias were deer proof and started planting two years ago. I was completely taken with the colors, vigorous nature, and impressive look from afar. I live in zone 7b and do not have to dig them up in the fall as we have almost no winter to speak of. I never planted them in pots as I put more than 7 in the ground and wouldn’t want to pot up that many plants. I bought ten more this year and cleared out an area in my garden where they get lots of sun. They range in size from 5 feet to 18 inches. No spraying and colorful flowers for months on end. Slugs are a problem, so do take care of those pests.

In my experience, growing dahlias depends solely on where your garden is. When I moved to Delaware years ago, I planted dahlia tubers in early September for the next season...they bloomed for Thanksgiving that same season! Go figure.

Wow, that's impressive! I live in PA and we usually put ours in in June and they come up in about a month. I don't think that even if they came up in September, they survived the winter and bloomed in the spring. But yes, it gets very hot and humid on the East coast near Philly and of course, further south.

Here in the States that’s called potting soil. Compost is different.

Absolutely LOVE your large plant labels. Are you able to tell me please where you buy them from? Only recently found your channel and I'm hooked, subscribed too! Thanks for this informative one about potting up dahlias.

Thank you! And thank you for subscribing. Our plant labels are actually made from old milk bottles. Dave just cuts them to shape.

I'm glad I'm watching your video, envii because I planted dahlias much deeper than you did in this video, 3" - 6" (I'm in the states) deep and they did not come up. My question is, if you plant them at the top of the soil, is there a risk rabbits and squirrels will eat them? We get a lot and have a squirrel nest in a tree on our property that is very high up. They aren't a constant nuisance but I'd love to hear your advice. Many thanks from Pennsylvania!

Hi, apologies for the late reply on this one. From our experience rabbits and squirrels don't tend to bother with our Dahlias. We'd recommend keeping them out of the way if it is a concern, keep an eye out for future videos as we may discuss this! Thanks for watching.

Now, understand how to plant them, old stem with some growth. What did you use to label dahlia, vellum paper?

I bought the flowers already bloomed and very bushy. How do I plant these beautiful plants?

Thank you. Clearly explained. Would it be okay to leave them in the pots, and just bring the pots inside in the winter so you don't have to dig them up?

Hi, thank you for watching. Yes absolutely! We have a video on overwintering them for when you come to that: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o6Gon2iDnM2dh7s

Interesting. I was told to not water it at all after the first water and just wait and see till it's sprouts. Gosh I hope I didn't just ruin $40 worth of tubers!
