Hi Fergus, Thank you so much for your videos. They are really helpful. I had most of the books you suggested except for the concept checking. Will surely get that one too. I have just started my CELTA training (online part time) and I'm struggling with the grammar bit. I am one of those peple who is stumped when i hear my tutor use words like past participles, infinitives 3rd conditional (i had no idea they were ranked🤔). I always thought tenses were just past, present and future. And I continue to use them very effectively. It comes as a rude shock to me when I realise that I slept my way through all of the grammar lessons in school. Anyways, I in the middle of CELTA and have NO idea how I'm going to pass my language analysis assignment or my grammar TP (both falling in the same week). Im not even sure how you can help me. I've gone through most of your videos but I'm still clueless how to handle this. I guess I'm just looking for moral support here. 😪

Hi there! Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience. Where in the world are you messaging from? Being stumped with the terminology around grammar is something I can very much empathize with. I remember having exactly the same experience when I went to do my own course. When I heard "terms like "the present perfect" I thought to myself _simply_ "the present what??" The 3rd conditional...what about the "zero" conditional? _The brains of mere mortals get confused if you mention such things_ :) If you are interested you can book a free 45-minute consultation with me and we can discuss where you are at on your grammar journey and your language-related task. You can use this link: integratedskillsacademy.com/book-an-appointment/ Wishing you every success in your course!

Hi Maria, thank you for your comment and subscribing. I always tell non-native trainees that in terms of language, the only language you need to make sure that you know inside out is the target language that you are teaching in your lesson. So, for example, if you are teaching the present perfect then that is all you need to make sure you are very comfortable with. Other than that, remember that being a non-native comes with many advantages: you too were once a learner so that will give you insights into what is happening with your students, also, because you have had to study the language you will likely have a head-start on the natives when it comes to grammatical forms and the associated terminology :) In any case, I wish you all the very best with your course. And remember if you are interested in a consultancy you can reach me by emailing fergustrainer@gmail.com

Hello, Is English Grammar in Use by Raymond Murphy useful pre-during and after CELTA?
@FergusFadden
@FergusFadden Жыл бұрын
Hi Tessa, thanks for your question, I would say the following: -Pre course; somewhat useful, potentially when you are doing the pre-course task. However, I wouldn't say it is essential. -During; Yes, I would say it is very useful, especially when preparing grammar lessons and when doing your language related task (assignment). -Post course; Yes, it would be good to have but not essential. It would be good to help you understand grammar items. HOwever, most course books also have grammar sections at the back. Thanks for the question and I hope that helps!
