The BEST Way to Reboot Smash Bros

I don’t think we should go so far as to calling it a reboot… just the next Smash game is more appropriate because we’re uncertain. The way I see it, the next Smash should introduce a balance between the number of veterans and newcomers. Veterans are available by default while the newcomers are the unlockables. In the case of veteran fighters… some will have to be cut… Ultimate did the near-impossible… We are likely not going to see a roster THAT massive again…

Maybe the roster don't need to be CUT maybe they can put the obvious characters that need to be cut in the same slots as other characters or some of they could just be a skin. Ya know what I MEAN

@@thomasooop lol, agreed. I think echoes could return and be rebranded though as different takes on the same character or moveset. For example, if a bunch of base characters got their old movesets completely reworked it'd be nice to have 'legacy echoes' that emulate their previous classic smash movesets.

Here's my starting eight idea: 1: Toad is worthy. 2: Dixie Kong could rescue Diddy Kong and then Donkey Kong 3: Reworked Zelda could set off to rescue Link. 4: Sylux could reluctantly seek out Samus. 5: Bandana Dee needs to be added as a new Kirby rep. 6: Krystal is overdue. 7: Alear could use the Emblem Rings of any cut Fire Emblem reps in their moveset. 8: Mio/Noah join.

Okay, so I don't get the deluxe argument here. The Wii U was a failed device and almost nobody bought one. That's why so many games from that generation came to the Switch in the form of a Deluxe port. Also, you couldn't do the backwards compatible thing even if it were in a better spot to bring a bigger crowd to the Switch (which of course wasn't the case) as physical copies ran on CDs and it would have been too expensive and clunky to add to the new device especially because it was part handheld. Why would the next device have deluxe ports when Nintendo can do the far more consumer friendly move by having backwards compatibility like so many handhelds and consoles before it? This transition has none of the drawbacks the Wii U going to the Switch had and if they were going to do a deluxe port they would have done it already on the Switch.

Definitely agree with shaving off stale features while including and improving upon the best aspects in all of Smash. Like the campaign idea too! I think it'd be better to include as many returning characters as is reasonable, as people losing just half the roster (and mains) would be a big turnoff for some (just look at Nick-Brawl). Allowing for more Smash content customization, creation and sharing would also go a long way. They also didn't capitalize on character skins like they could have.

One thing if the next Smash Bros game I see constantly and is likely to happen is cutting down the roster. If that were the case, here's what I would have for the base roster of let's say 50 character. There's gonna be a lot of counting for this part so bare with me on this (and I might forgot a character, so let me know if I miss any during my base roster picks). (8 New comers for base roster). Of course, DLC would be involved and have both returning and new comers. I don't wanna go into the specifics right now. Story Mode: It would be really cool if there was some story where characters from one world would end up in another and come together in a final Smash Bros world as you said to face a god like entity that's recreating the universe or something and some villains gather to cause trouble for themselves or the god they fight for (like Ganondorf to Master Hand in Subspace). Let's say (this one I want to see the most) in Star Fox's Lylat System, Fox and Wolf are in a space battle and get sucked into a worm hole and both ended up in different places in say Sonic's world. Fox and Sonic would work together to stop Wolf and Eggman, Krystal would show up to assist upon finding Fox, and then the villains disappear causing the heroes to follow them. Another one would be Zelda and Link are trying to stop Ganondorf, but ended up getting separated and ended up in the Fire Emblem world where Link and Marth look for Robin as he's a magician (don't know much on Fire Emblem lore) to find Zelda, get home, and stop Ganondorf. Donkey Kong would have trouble finding his bananas and finds himself encountering the Pokemon on his journey. And so on and so forth (I don't have a perfectly clear idea on some franchises as I never played any of them outside of Smash Bros).

I rather play smash ultimate and don’t pay them 60 or 70 dollars for the new game. Like yeah sure some old characters must be gone, but all of those together I don’t think Nintendo is dumb enough to cut them all. Of course I respect your opinion, but it doesn’t seem like something that would happen

I do really like this idea, but i feel like its somewhat ambitious for a reboot that focuses on redefining each characters move-set, and general game mechanics. A smaller roster feels especially appropriate if there would be an expansive single player that brings characters to the worlds of others. Fantastic idea for a reboot tho. I especially love the whole "starting with the less known characters" angle. The idea of opening a subspace-esque mode to luigi, inkling, and ness is hysterical to me. It feels right at home with some of the goofy/experimental things Nintendo has been doing with their less popular ip's recently

They can do both just by updating Ultimate because the Switch 2 will be backwards compatible with Switch games soooo two birds… Paid dlc will come with new kits for existing fighters that need an overhaul (and players will have the option of using their original kits, maybe even allow for a mix n’ match option so players can use some of their old moves and some new ones in one customized kit) and new fighters. They probably won’t do this though.
