I feel like people very often forget that Ancient Wyvern is a boss in DS3... it's really not great. They took the concept of a boss runback and made that the boss.

I agree with you for sure, but it’s easily to give it a pass because it’s fairly easy. I’d say that goes to show how good the bosses are in DS3 that the worst ones are forgettable without ever being frustratingly difficult like a Bed of Chaos type boss in older games

This was such a good video! Definitely subbing! In regards to Godfrey, I think my favourite thing about the opening cutscene to the fight is how it shows that he's a tarnished by giving him his own guiding grace that's pointing towards you! It just gives this extra bit of epicness and inevitability to the fight. Neither of you have any other goal than to kill the person in front of you. Such a cool detail.

In defense of Halflight, he's only there to fill space once the game dies (right now). The entire Spear of the church bossfight is meant to give the player the opportunity to step in the place of the boss, which is an extremely cool idea. I don't say the fight is good anyways cause even if the PvP activates, it's literally a 4v1 with the boss player having no heals outside of miracles, and the difficulty very much depends on the skills of player randomly dragged out of his playthrough. I think phantom heals should've been disabled for the Halflight PvP fight, it might've become way more difficult but it's still a bossfight in the end

Your Godfrey explanations are some of the reasons why I absolutely find him to be one of the best bosses I’ve ever faced. One thing that I want to point out that in the Hoarah Loux phase, his stomps become more random since his combos are unpredictable, which makes me love the Hoarah Loux phase even more since that phase just makes the jumping mechanic shine the most and no other bossfight came close into encouraging jumps to that extent. Also am shocked that you ranked Guardian Ape as Sekiro’s best boss considering that I personally favour Corrupted Monk over the Ape and that is my 3rd favourite fight of Sekiro

Yeah Guardian Ape surprised me. I like the boss but I would take both Owl fights, both Isshin fights, Genichiro, and Corrupted Monk over him for sure. And if we count the Inner fights, Inner Father is mechanically the best boss I’ve ever faced. His teleporting combos flow so nicely, and I love the Owl Father OST as well. The only boss in fromsoft’s catalogue I’d take over him is Ludwig, but only because of how cinematic the fight is. Mechanically Inner Owl is unbeatable. Also I will nitpick Godfrey and say that his cutscene turning into Hoarah Loux was so incredibly corny. I think the animation was really poorly done there

The thing that erks me the most about Godskin duo is that I noticed that they resummon eachother after one dies, so I spent a while making it so that I would kill them at the same time, thinking this would be the other way of defeating them, and then one after the other they just magically reappeared without the other resummoning them... Like at least make that a mechanic if your showing them respawn eachother!

My favorite bosses in each Soulsborne game, in order of my favorite game: Elden Ring - Mohg, Lord of Blood Dark Souls 3 - The Nameless King (favorite boss of all time) Dark Souls - Manus (I feel that he is underrated. Everyone talks about O and Smough and Artorias, but I feel like Manus gets enough love) Bloodborne - Martyr Logarius Sekiro - Genichiro Dark Souls 2 - Old Ivory King Demon’s Souls - The Penetrator

I love the gank squad! They have the most unique arena + you run around like a chicken with its head cut off while being chased. I always find it really funny but still trilling. It also feels really unfair at first, but once you can effectively navigate the arena, it is easy to prioritize an NPC and get a consistent hit and run attacks on them... Malenia is the best Elden Ring boss due to how she works. At first, it feels like you're fighting another person who has a suped up moveset. The katana without any flashy effects, and a moveset that needs that spiderweb of a flowchart to understand. Additionally, she is one of the few bosses that can be parried so late into the game. Maliketh has a Margit/Morgott/Mohg situation, but not entirely. There is an item that you can use that can parry his devastating combos for a massive amount of damage. Think of the Dark Souls 1 silver pendant if it staggered Manus if used at the perfect timing.

So I can only comment on ds2, ds3, and ER, but the biggest difference between those 3 is the move-sets of bosses. Ds2 had very repetitive moves, so fighting bosses always felt like memorizing a pattern, ER had soo many “normal mob” bosses in the various dungeons and catacombs, and so much repetition amongst the bosses that while some certainly shined, it made many feel like more of a chore as you geared up for a repeat fight from earlier. Ds3 had very little repetition, and also had a good mix between human and non-humanoid bosses, so it didn’t feel like you were just dodging sword swings. It also didn’t seem to needlessly increase the difficulty by just adding more numbers, which was something all too abundant in ER.
@ragegaze3482
@ragegaze3482 11 ай бұрын
but all those repeat bosses in ER are completely optional? You don't have to go into your 5th catacomb if you don't want to. My first playthrough I faced literally no repeat bosses except the godskin apostle twice, once in the tower, and once during the godskin duo. And the other when doing melenia and fighting the redwolf and crucible knight as regular enemies, but they weren't really bosses at that point and I could just run past them. Critizing completely out of the way optional bosses just seems weird to me, if you don't want to fight them you don't have to.
@timepassesbye
@timepassesbye 11 ай бұрын
I wasn't criticizing anything, it was just a comment on the number of repeated bosses.The fact that you can skip them doesn't change the fact they are in the game for a reason. And more to my point, them being option doesn't change the fact they have identical move sets. The video wasn't entitled "best and worst non-optional bosses" @@ragegaze3482

the only From boss with multiple enemies that actually works for me (and no, it ain’t O & S, they only work cuz of the pillars, just like the Godskins) is the Shadows of Yharnam. why? because while there are 3 of them, they don’t just all rush at you like most of the duos and many other multi enemy bosses. instead, one goes in close, one moves from mid range to close, and the third stays at range. it makes it a surprisingly manageable fight for being a gank. far better than the gank squad, which was released around the same time. and honestly, not enough people give the Shadows credit for being a well executed gank fight, from the moment they walk out all spooky, to the end when they get all snakey….

I started with the OG Demon's Souls, and I really love a lot of the bosses. There used to be a lot more experimental bosses and variety that flipped gaming expectations on their head and tied in with the world / story. Like Maiden Astraea. That was the first time in a game that a boss didn't fight back and begged for her life. It shook me. And having the final boss that had been built up and turned into a God turn out to just be a worthless slug.. It was also the first game that I know of which summoned another player as a boss. I love the big action packed spectacle bosses in later games but they lost some of the thoughtfulness

Nice vid , my list would be : Demon's Souls : Best - Old King Allant Worst - King Allant , now if you don't consider this a boss fight despite having a boss health bar then It would go to Maneaters Dark Souls 1 : Best - Artorias , without the dlc Ornstein and Smough ( dlc bosses are generally going to have higher highs so I think it is fair to include the vanilla versions as well ) Worst - Bed of Chaos ( who else could it be ) Dark Souls 2 : Best - Fume Knight , without the dlcs Darklurker Worst - Royal Rat Authority Dark Souls 3 : Best - Slave Knight Gael , without the dlcs Nameless King Worst - Ancient Wyvern BB Best - Orphan of Kos , without the dlc Gehrman the First Hunter Worst - Micloash Sekiro Best - Inner Father , not including the inner versions Sword Saint Isshin Worst - Headless Ape ( the duo boss fight ) Elden Ring Best - Malenia Worst - Remembrance bosses are the true bosses so legends/demigods/gods so while there are no bad ones the worst of the bunch is the Fire Giant , if we include any mandatory boss then it is the Godskin Duo , if we include any boss fight Putrid Crystalians ( triple crystalians boss fight ) . We will see if any boss from the upcoming expansion will surpass Malenia .

@@akechigoro3340 Well Malenia has been figured out quite a bit now so she really isn't all that bad anymore , its mostly her waterfowl dance that is the hardest part of her fight . Personally I don't think they will top it and even if they do ER just gives you too many tools to make any boss too hard . Malenia is a boss I loved fighting and still do , on my lvl 1 ER all remembrance bosses run I decided to kill her only using the serpent hunter , no summons ( I never use them anyway ) , no throwing items , no spells , no ashes of war and so on . To beat her hitless only using the maxed out serpent hunter and talismans it took me roughly 250-300 attempts which would translate roughly to 20 hours of attempts . If waterfowl wasn't so bs it would have taken me 10 hours instead but oh well . It was certainly one of my proudest achievements in gaming . Playing on lvl 1 made me appreciate and like some fights I didn't like so much before but it also made me hate some of them as well and saw just how bs they really are unless you have a lot of vigor .

@@Sephirothkingdom782 Thanks but every list is subjective , its a matter of taste . Bosses I enjoy more are : Malenia , Maliketh , Rhadan , Morgott , Mohg , Godfrey , Placidusax , Radagon / Elden Beast and then Godrick would take the next spot . While a good boss my issue with Godrick and why he is in the middle of the pack is well first of all he is too easy even with a mediocre build , I enjoy his first phase more than his second , I really dislike the flame attack where he points at the ground which forces you to retreat back , also it is very easy to abuse his AI to get him to do the attacks you want and get an easy punish . Hit the right orb, quit to menu, hug left wall until you get to crack in floor, stay there and shoot arrows at the roots and eventually you'll break through and hit the other orb, quit to menu again, run straight at bed of chaos wait outside breaking floor for two arm swipes, go in for the kill. I wish I could save states so I could replay that fight again with that and experience it again. Legit feels like you and a squad of brave knights extinguishing a cult of pure evil. Personally, I think boss runbacks have a real place in "level design" that, like... includes the boss as _part_ of the level and is balanced accordingly. If the boss isn't too _complex,_ you can reasonably stretch the "resource management" aspect of the challenge to incorporate the boss alongside the rest of the level, and it ups the stakes of the boss fight to boot. Sometimes the frustration of needing to run back to a boss is even the deterrent some players need to stop just banging their head against a boss that they're not ready for! It can encourage tactical reevaluation and more thoughtful taking-in of the boss as opposed to just throwing yourself at, say... the Dancing Lion 50+ times because you accidentally beelined straight for it. Personally, I find it to be a MUCH more rewarding experience to clutch a win by the skin of my teeth against a boss I had to run through the entire level to get back to, than to finally defeat a boss with a checkpoint _right outside the boss room._ The problem is it just plain wouldn't work with extremely difficult and complex bosses, like the majority of the heavy hitters in Elden Ring, and the constant soulsborne arms race between veteran skill and game difficulty probably means the bosses are just going to keep getting more and more buck wild. Also, you need to strike a REALLY careful balance with the level design, where the player shouldn't be able to just effortlessly run past everything, but their familiarity with the level _should_ grant them an advantage instead of forcing them to amble carefully through it all over again. The point of a boss runback is to test the player's mastery of the _level_ to make it to the boss with enough resources, not to just waste their time. Even some bosses in Elden Ring struggled with that, in my opinion! Like, if there's a grace right outside the boss gate, with no danger between it and the boss... why does the game feel the need to make me run for literally 20-30 seconds up a flight of stairs, watch an unskippable animation, and skip a cutscene? That honestly irritates me way more than a runback, haha

In support of DS2’s Gank Squad boss-> it’s there, in the name, that’s why it’s good. What am i on about? A Gank is the term for a group of co-op players lying in wait for a player to invade the host. Then they gang up on the invader. This boss will be all we have to remind ourselves of what that experience is like, once the servers shut down. It will be the closest thing in the franchise to what PvP was like. Ganks are tough to beat, as an invader. They aren’t called the “Nobility Squad of Honor”. They are an unfair and lopsided affair. But there’s a deep satisfaction for an invader to beat a Gank. And I for one felt that after a long afternoon of attempts. By the by, the boss runback is simple, once you figure out the route. I might have to roll only once for the knights in the bottom floor, but it’s a straight sprint the whole way.

I honestly really regret using spirit ashes and Napheli Loux to beat Godrick, where I beat him on my second try. But I didn't know any better especially after Margit being so hard that I barely beat him with both. Although since then I never use spirit ashes and only the jellyfish for particularly hard bosses

Before playing dark souls games, i thought everyone just loved soulsborne bosses just because they were "hard" and i thought it was a bs meaning to just make people pretend they like challenges, i absolutely hated souls games especially when i tried demon souls, which was my second souls game ever (my first was bloodborne but i only played bloodborne at my uncles house). When i started playing bloodborne myself and learning about the parry mechanics and everything, then i grew to love the game but my opinion on the bosses never changed, until i met ludwig in its DLC. It was hard and i thought i would never like the boss. After i defeated ludwig then i thought i would be glad that its over, but then after finishing the game, i found myself replaying the entire game and rushing at level 44 to ludwig. I started realizing that i missed fighting ludwig and that it was genuinely fun. And then thats when i truly started appreciating soulsborne games. Ludwig will always be my favorite and best boss out of any game there is, he changed my view on the "fun" of soulsborne games. 10/10 boss from a narrative view and gameplay view.

Let's see... I haven't beaten every game in the series, but I have at least attempted each one, so with that in mind here's what I'd pick Demon's (unfinished) - Best: Tower Knight. Worst: Armor Spider. DS1 - Best: Ornstein and Smough (one of my favorite bosses of all time). Worst: Bed of Ch... Capra Demon. DS2 (unfinished) - Best: Pursuer. Worst: Smelter Demon. DS3 (finished, but haven't played the DLC yet) - Best: Soul of Cinder. Worst: Crystal Mages. Bloodborne (my favorite one, too!) - Best: Orphan of Kos. Worst: Living Failures. Sekiro... I've only beaten one boss in Sekiro, and I didn't enjoy the experience. Pass. Elden Ring (unfinished. My least favorite aside from Sekiro) - I hate all the bosses. Godskin Duo was such an obnoxious fight though, so I guess it goes to them. Armored Core 6 (yes, AC6. Fight me.) - Best: Ayre. Worst: Cleaner Robot.

I think the issue is the areas are uninspired and not that great. There are some great bosses and some really bad ones. The weapon variety is good but nothing anymore special than DS1 or DS2 and a lot of the game is inspired by DS1 in the first place. I think it’s still better than Sekiro or DS2 but definitely not better than ER or BB.

Yeah I love ds3 but my god the mobs just pissed me off a TON when playing it. Farron keep, the ringed city and Ariendal when exploring, the cathedral of the deep, catacombs of carthus, etc were just not fun for me. Otherwise it’s just an epic game. Shame about the grey color palette from the world dying but it’s got some of the best bosses and themes. Demon princes, L+L, gundyr, the list goes on for a little

Disagree with the idea that DS3 is the pinnacle of Fromsoft boss design. I do agree that it was the most consistent game for boss quality but Fromsoft has continued improve. If you just count the shardbearers and some of the "legends" then ER has better quality than the base game of DS3. Both Sekiro and Elden Ring have largely moved on from the "your turn, my turn" style and force you to find and make openings. The posture mechanics in both games adds an additional layer to the fights (in DS3 there's almost no good application of R2 and charge attacks during boss fights). Bosses like Father Owl and Maliketh have more flow chart like attacks based on positioning or whether you dodge, block, deflect or jump (this is especially obvious in Sekiro). These elements are present in DS3, but not to the same degree. I can see why people prefer DS3 though, the direction of dodges don't matter as much (cool exceptions like Abyss Watcher's fire trails), the timings are more intuitive (they don't have as many long wind-ups and panic roll punishes), and healing in neutral is a lot safer in general. It's just a more relaxing experience, imo. DS3 is a 10/10, btw, I'm mainly just defending recent Fromsoft boss design. It also might be due to the fact that I just think Sekiro and ER have better combat systems.

DARK SOULS: My favourite Boss in the base game: As much as I adore Ornstein & Smough, I'm going to say Great Grey Wolf Sif. The fight's a tearjerker when I do after the DLC. My favourite Boss in the DLC: Knight Artorias The worst Boss: Bed Of Chaos. DARK SOULS 2: My favourite Boss in the base game: The Mirror Knight. My favourite Boss in the DLC: The Burnt Ivory King (yeah, Sir Alonne and the Fume Knight are mechanically far better, but the Ivory King is AESTHETICALLY my favourite. Plunging into the Old Chaos with the 4 Loyce Knights we can find and the 2 NPCs we can Summon on top of that, then fighting the Charred Knights and the Burnt Ivory King IS SO EPIC! The Loyce Knight Set is also worth the grind to me, as I find it the most beautiful outfit in the game. The worst Boss: The Duke's Dear Freja. I HATE THE ENTIRETY OF TSELDORA because I'm arachnophobic, but the descent down the webbing to the Boss room and Dear Freja herself sealed my first run through Dark Souls 2 as my last. It made my skin crawl so much that I contemplated dropping the game right there. DARK SOULS 3: My favourite Boss in the base game: The Dancer Of The Boreal Valley. My favourite Boss in the DLC: Sister Friede & Father Ariandel. The worst Boss: Highlord Wolnir. BLOODBORNE: My favourite Boss in the base game: Father Gascoigne. Note: The Bloody Crow Of Cainhurst should have been a proper Boss Fight IMHO. My favourite Boss in the DLC: Lady Maria Of The Astral Clocktower. The worst Boss: Rom, the Vacuous Spider (again, because of arachnophobia... but I particularly hated the Chalice version)

for me, the best/worst bosses are Demons's's's's's Souls Best: Old monk (a pvp bossfight blew my young mind) Worst: Dragon god (all that buildup, just to break some rocks and smack his chin. barely even counts as a bossfight) Dark Souls One Best: Gaping dragon ( i saw the giant arena, got confused, then a giant fucking dragon with a mouth for a chest comes out. Then he starts destroying the pillars, and it was all awesome) Worst: Ceaseless Discharge (either you let him to the "le super secret lore jump" and cheese him with 6 hits, or you wait for him to slam his arm down, smack the arm till it raises, and repeat. Boring either way) Dark Souls two Best: Looking Glass Knight (First off, love the "through the looking glass" reference. Second, LOVE that you get to fight alongside a boss... i wish more games did that.) Worst: Prowling Magus/congregation (we put 10 trash mobs in a room; have fun, jackass) Dark Souls Three Best: Aldrich (The callback to gwyndolin, the wailing music full on anguish and pain, the sheer horror of what i was seeing. it was beautifully done) Worst: Deacons of the deep (did you like the congregation? Well here, HAVE ANOTHER!) Elden Ring Best: Ancestral spirit (the music mixed with the water droplet sounds of the blue fire was beautiful, it felt like an indian fever dream) Worst: Putrid tree spirit [The War-Dead Catacombs] (all of my hate. a giant boss that takes up most of the room, and does a giant sweeping slide move that is all but guaranteed to hit you. not fun in the slightest)

I feel like I cheated myself out of the Godfrey fight, I didn't know how or when the game locked into "ending time" so I went and fought millennia first, then ran to Godfrey and got the most scuffed 1st attempt kill. I felt pretty deflated and then after hearing so many people praise the fight I just wish I could do a quick redo because you just can't take in the move set in 1 go around.

Bloodborne Best: Ludwig, runnerup is Lady Maria. Worst: Rom, runnerup is Micolash. Dark Souls 3 Best: Gael, runnerup is Midir. Worst: Halflight, runnerup is Ancient Wyvern. Sekiro Best: Isshin, runnerup is Owl Father. Worst: Headless Ape, runnerup is False Corrupted Monk. Elden Ring Best: Godfrey, runnerup is Mohg. Worst: Valiant Gargoyles, runnerup is Godskin Duo

I actually really liked the maneater boss fight and absolutely loathed doing the dragon god boss fight in DeS. Otherwise I like your list. DS3 is the game I had the most fun with in the series, BB is objectively my favourite game by From Soft and DeS on the PS3 had the best atmosphere of all the games and easily the one that creeped me out. Remake flunked at capturing the essence of what made the original so amazing and as a result most newer players who only played the remake seem to place the game low on tier lists. It’s truly a shame and a huge disservice.

@SJ-di5zu
@SJ-di5zu 10 ай бұрын
Yeah, there’s no reliable way to dodge A Call Beyond as far as I know, and if you die to it you get sent back to the beginning of a 10 minute boss fight. The worst part is it’s such an easy fight that there’s almost no possible way you’ll die to anything except that one move.
