What I see Urotsuki as is like a polar opposite to Madotsuki. A happy young girl with a perfectly normal life and no trauma who just happens to be able to lucid dream, but instead of hiding in her own dream world, she goes to explore other people's dreams. ALSO NOILDOOF IS MAKING HER OWN FANGAME AAH fun fact this used to be hearted
@vinnitsuki5797
@vinnitsuki5797 3 жыл бұрын
It's also reflected in the clothing of each character. Madotsuki has a single framed, 6-panel window. You're looking into the mind of one girl, perhaps from several different angles, but always limited to her (Essentially to Kikiyama). Urotsuki's sweater is several single panels. Each panel is smaller in scale, but linked infinitely, with no frame to limit them.

Basically she (Urotsuki) is astral projecting, without realising it. About being normal - childhood memories says different.

Oh my goodness, thank you for sharing my work!! Glad you're enjoying 2kki. I haven't updated in a while because I'm working on my own fangame, but I have a lot of stuff still planned for 2kki. The cones can be frustrating, but it's generally done to signify "hey, I'm going to put something here eventually, so this won't be a dead end forever/if you're another dev don't mess with this." In some cases, like Wataru, they might just be part of the scenery and not signify anything at all (or to keep the player from moving out-of-bounds). You're correct about the lack of overarching story, there's no real meaning beyond what individual creators put in their own worlds. Some devs have "themes," like Wataru's themes of desolation and urban decay, or Zenmaigahara's body horror. Other than that, it doesn't really mean anything, it's just a bunch of people wanting to make cool things to explore.

Holy shit I didn't think any devs would see this video aaaaa. Again I love your worlds to bits. They're so pretty!! Glad to hear you still have stuff in store when in comes to 2kki 😊 Yeh that makes sense, and personally I don't really mind the usage. But it does suck if that traffic sign stays there for years and years. I guess from a players perspective I'd rather have a world connecting from that dead end, that doesn't necessarily makes sense (aka the connecting world is made by someone else), then having just a dead end. But from the devs perspective I also understand that a lot of them probably have a vision on how they want to continue their chain of worlds. Would be really cool if some sort of middle ground could be found. And yeh yeh I did notice that each artist does tend to have their own sort of.. aesthetic in a sense. Which again is very cool! It makes for a lot of diversity in dream worlds 😁

This might be an odd comparison, but I would say in my experience that Yume 2kki is a lot like Super Mario Galaxy: They're both mainly about exploration (even though Mario Galaxy has an "end goal"), they have really creative worlds, each one being heavy on the atmosphere, and it also helps that Yume 2kki has a lot of space-themed worlds like Galaxy Park, the Planetarium, and recently the Nocturnal Grove. In my eyes, Super Mario Galaxy really is like exploring different dream-like worlds, so the similarities with Yume 2kki make sense.

I absolutely ADORE Yume 2kki, it's probably my favorite Yume Nikki fangame and one of my favorite video games in general. I think the "collaborative effort" idea is really cool in practice, as well as how it serves as a tribute to not only the original but all the other cool stuff the YN community has created. I understand why people gripe about the incoherency of the worlds and how big the game is, but that's probably one of my favorite aspects of it - it stays true to the wild variety of dreams, and this variety ensures that there's something for everyone. I find it crazy how it still updates. The character design is spot-on too. Even though Urotsuki doesn't speak a word in the game, you can still get a good idea of her personality (based on the chainsaw and the motorbike). She's become one of my favorite protagonists. Thanks for making a video about this game! It's nice to see it getting some more visibility.

god, i still can't get over how underrated this game is. it makes me sad to think that there are so many people who overlook this game despite the fact that it has some absolutely beautiful and otherworldly areas tucked away in its depths. seriously, there really aren't any other yume nikki fangames or even games in GENERAL that compare to 2kki in surrealism and open-ended dreamlike exploration. it just feels like taking a dive into the deepest parts of your subconscious, especially when you discover the worlds of top notch creators like wataru and qxy. i'm probably just as passionate about this game as you are. don't know if you still play it here and there whenever new updates come out, but I definitely try to check out all of the new content, because i seriously adore 2kki. so glad to have found someone else besides nitro rad covering it!

This kinda reminds me of LSD Dream Simulator, a PS1 game that consisted of nothing but walking through randomized environments in 1st-person. All the environments are based on actual dreams of the creator, which means that it's often very random and surreal. The game was a limited-release Japan exclusive, which means it's prohibitively expensive, but you can find gameplay footage on KZbin. i recommend doing so, that game's a trip.

Man, it's always so great to see people giving this game some love ! Although Yume Nikki and its fangames have a very devoted fanbase, I still feel like I don't hear people talking about them nearly enough. It's also awesome to see that this game still receives regular updates, it shows the fans are still alive and kickin' and I love it (I'm real sad about wataru's stuff being removed tho, can anyone tell me what that's about ? I have no idea what happened...). Though I wonder if Yume 2kki will ever be completed one day or if it's going to remain a "work in progress" forever. I think I'm fine with either one though. By the way, is there an official discord server for fans of this game (or anything Yume Nikki related really) ? I've been enjoying playing it and admiring Fanart on my own for a long time but now I'd love to get more in touch with people from the community for once, so if there's a place dedicated to that I wouldn't mind hearing about it. I want to share my love for this underrated game ! Anyway, great video, it made my day. (obligatory sorry for bad english because it's not my mother tongue)

i mean I've played like 20 different yume nikki fan games while i agree that yume 2kki is one of the best in terms of content they all have their own charms and stories. Like LCDdem that has it's own meaning for the people that used to know the author, .flow or Me (god i hated looking for the orbs on Me, i actually never found the last one and there's no guide on the internet) for something that does try to include horror while keeping the original yume nikki aesthetic, and so on, that's why i keep playing different ones and don't really get bored of the concept. right now from the top of my head i can name -the original yume nikki -yume 2kki -.flow -fleshchild -Yume graffiti -answered prayers -yume nisshi -Lcddem -yuque -the looking glass -yume wo -ultra violet -asleep -Me -broken bottles and a lot more lol, they aren't all necessarily the best I've played but i just like a lot the concept and how people work with it on their own ways. ^^

Yume graffiti and LCDDEM are so good, my fav fangames especially LCDDEM (as a K fan I was so happy to play through it and the ending's music gives me chill and puts tears in my eyes every time I hear it...). LCDDEM is probably the best fangame in terms of ambiance and graphics (and music of course), Yume graffiti is amazing for that as well, .flow is great too and I have started to play yume nisshi and it's great too ! To anyone reading this, please play yume nikki fangames, they're all free unless they became their own things like the senquels of the OG Lisa and with the EZrpg program they're super easily to play even with the japanese characters. Most well known ones have english translations as well.

I'm late to this video, but I literally howled with the map bit HAHAHHA ⚰ I've been playing this for 10 years or so, and it's always interesting to see how it's organically expanding and contracting... some areas get deleted, others get moved, cones get removed and you end up using the wiki as a crutch because your head won't tell you where the hand hub is. It's just insane how giant this thing is. Thanks for taking the time to make this game a little more visible! I love it as well. It deserves every bit of attention it can get.

Wow! What an awesome review! Could not have stated the magnificent points better myself. I've been a 2kki fan for years upon years (and by years upon years I mean about 6 years or so, so not really) and it's been a surreal but awesome experience to see not only the game grow, but the community and much more so the love for the project as a whole, as well. You put it so perfectly. I absolutely agree that Yume 2kki is a fangame that most other fangames just can't seem to capture, no matter how they try, and the many collaborators really contribute to that, whether or not their worlds are still present in current versions, and regardless of how many arbitrary construction and traffic objects seem to be scattered around their worlds. (miss you wataru) And the MUUUUSIIIIC, ohhh my goodness. Anyone who's been around the OST vids knows how much I love this game's soundtrack! Despite so many of them being shrill, ambient or droning, they contribute SO much to their worlds' respective atmospheres. (with a few notable exceptions.) And I also do agree with the criticisms-- they were perfectly valid. So many of the worlds out there have so much untapped potential to grow into something huge, and it's a real kick in the pants that some of the older ones haven't seen many updates. (especially in wataru's case, which is really crushing for me considering I always wanted to know what was behind that cone in the Rose Church!) All in all this review was amazing! I can feel the passion coming from this vid. Here's to hoping this community continues to thrive!

After 8 years, it's nice to find a proper video on yume 2kki that properly covers all that there is to offer. This also gives me the opportunity to say a few things about it as well. Too many people see it as just a walking simulator, and while that's partially the truth, it just doesn't do 2kki justice at all. One thing I will say is that it's not for the impatient... if you can't appreciate the places you end up at or just wandering around and getting lost, you won't enjoy this because it's more about the journey than the finishing line. This game is a long, long journey, but you'll learn to memorise routes and figure out what effects do. Content-wise, 2kki is practically an entire planet's worth of locations, that gets added to and updated so recently that I'm talking two days ago recently as of this comment. The worlds are beautiful and pretty but they can sometimes turn into organised chaos and dead-ends, with its fair share of chasers and antagonists to harass or be provoked by Urotsuki. Sure, while there is some relative danger in losing your current progress (not save file that's just fine), don't be afraid to just... jab at things, get real nosey and explore every nook and cranny you can find. You don't need to grind yourself up against walls like many rpgmaker titles love to have you do, but you will have to search far and wide to gain effects (cosmetics that do... stuff) to assist you on your journey. My personal favourite locations were the Japanese town and Crystal organ. Those places brought an inner peace.

Thank you for making this video. Yume Nikki itself is one of the most underrated video games of all time with kind of an underground fanbase at this point and so as a result, 2kki and the other fangames are even more unknown despite being fantastic creations of art. This is also my favorite fangame although I need to play more when I have more free time as I've only really tried out .flow, Me, and Yume Nikki 3D besides that. It's amazing that this community has some sort of strength in it after all the years when 2011 has already came and went. The deepest I ever got in Yume 2kki was a dead end world called the Rose Church. It's 13 rooms deep and it's the deepest I've ever gone in one session. I listen to the soundtrack whilst I study and I've heard tracks for rooms I've never even heard of and I go to the wiki to find new areas... I'm curious how deep others have gone, though.

Yume 2kki is one of the only games i can play being in uni, very chill and relaxing 99% of the time. Also ynonline is a great addition, it allowed me to get a few of my friends into it when the process would otherwise be very weird and convoluted. Great video, keep up the good work!

Oh i really glad that someone remember Yumme Nikki and Yumme 2kki! I'm from Rassia and in Rassia almost no one knows about this game. And I have no one to share this masterpiece with. :( So I'll have to learn English or create an interest group in my country. Thank you for this super cool video. 💓

I love the original Yume Nikki and I remember watching Nitro Rad's review of Yume 2kki, but it didn't seem that interesting to me. This review, however really shows the absolute *size* of Yume 2kki. Now that I really know how much it has to offer, I just might check it out!

Oh yeh yeh I was so hyped when NItro Rad finally talked about 2kki, seeing how it barely gets any coverage on KZbin. Don't remember too much from his video though haha. Probably should give it a rewatch at some point. Glad to hear my video sparked your interest in 2kki though!!

AAAAAAH YES YOU MADE A VID ON 2KKI YESS CAN'T WAIT TO SEE IT 2KKI IS SO FUNNN Just started and yes I am too distraught at the wataru wipe... I've made some fanarts too, especially the actually cool story bits added in the dream park about urotsuki, and YEAH THOSE RECENTS WORLDS YOUVE SHOWN ARE SOME OF THE BEEEST EVERRRR AHAHAHAHAHAH FUCK THE TRAFFIC COOOONES AHAHAHAHAHJXKAKCOAOODOSOCX The concrete world music actively makes me so anxious it's surreal a song like that exists. Bless Marina ❤️ About the story, it is vague, but there are some pretty repeating aspect about urotsuki that often pop up in some worlds, again mainly in dream park where actively other locations are referenced that already implied quite a bit on uro. Of course, its way less than Nikki or dotflow, but even having this interesting points on her childhood, parents and herself makes the story very cool. It's mainly about exploration, creativity and collaboration first and foremost tho, yeah! To those who want to play it, just download easyrpg on phone or PC to play 2kki! It's super easy and has even a speedup option included!

Yes, yes, and yes. 2kki is so damn good at it’s always great to see it get any attention. I also highly agree with the issue of expanding the world without use of already established “under construction” exits. Especially because they just recently expanded the nexus. I imagine they need permission from other contributors to connect worlds but I really don’t know. Chess world’s music made my hair stand on my neck when I first visited.
@Yuunarii
@Yuunarii 3 жыл бұрын
Yeh personally I'd also imagine its a permission thingy that prevents authors from freely connecting to other worlds. But its probably just also a lack of communication.

The best part of this video was when you were talking about "scrapbooking" the worlds in the game. I cause I realized, I was doing the same thing lol. Ah man, there was this abandoned city with slime people, giant house in the middle of nowhere, Lilypad filled lake, giant pier with cherry flower trees, ginormous pink sunset on a cliff, garden shown though 3 huge windows, etc. etc. Very pretty places that I might just draw pictures of ngl lol.
