Pearl arrives for a visit with surprising news: Jethrine didn’t marry the local undertaker after all. Instead, she eloped with Jasper Depew. Meanwhile, Jethro needs a health certificate to graduate from the fifth grade. Since the Clampetts only know one doctor in Beverly Hills-Mrs. Drysdale’s psychiatrist, Dr. Eugene Twombly (Herbert Rudley)-Jethro heads to his office. During the visit, Jethro falls asleep on the couch while talking to Twombly. The psychiatrist quickly realizes that treating Jethro may be more challenging than he anticipated. When Jethro returns home, he tells the family that all Twombly talked about was his mother and that Twombly wants to meet Pearl immediately. Pearl, eager to meet a wealthy Beverly Hills man, seizes the opportunity, dresses up, and visits Twombly.
During her visit, Pearl becomes uneasy when Twombly dims the office lights and closes the curtains. When he encourages her to lie down on the couch, she assumes he’s testing her virtue and leaves in a huff. Later, Jed visits Twombly to confront him, upset over what he perceives as inappropriate behavior toward Pearl. Twombly tries to explain that he’s a psychiatrist and his actions were misunderstood. In an attempt to clear the air, Twombly visits the Clampett mansion to apologize. However, Granny, skeptical of his medical expertise, questions his doctoring skills. A series of misunderstandings ensue, further confusing the situation, and Twombly ultimately leaves, overwhelmed by the Clampetts’ unique way of life.
