Whatever! A lot of Vice people I've seen were really pretentious, judgmental and rather shitty in situations a lot less foreign than this. Maybe he didn't enjoy the insects, but he ate what was offered to him and was pretty damn respectful about it. Major kudos to him for genuinely trying someone else's culture.

If we can get to the point where we can industrially farm insects, i think it could solve a lot of problems related to food in the world. They are kinda gross, but I'm starting to appreciate how fascinating they are. They are like systems of individuals as opposed to us as individual systems.

I believe eating insects helps people get the proper amount of nutrients in a less environmentaly damaging level than eating farm animals in a less harmful way to the human body... but this is a matter of choosing between getting a 50 or a 60 in an exam, they are still both failing grades (it is just an analogy, don't take it too srly, and this is only my opinion).

We accept that lions are carnivores and as apex predators are important to their ecosystem and keep the herds of animals they prey on in the best health weeding out the sick and old. It's human factory farming that we object to; it takes up land that could be used to grow agriculture, it's extremely water costly and it's fucking cruel on the animals.

Bai Jiu 白酒 is not necessarily made from sorghum, in the region I went to , in the centre of Hubei, it was made of corn. Bai Jiu refers to high percentage alcohol.

BBC's eating insects documentary set in Thailand was really good, and it didn't seem expensive probably because a lot of the people there eat it rather than just not much demand in China so they can make it a more expensive delicacy.
