This movie is an escape to my younger days. This and the song 74-75, I don't know - there's a quality that's very hard to articulate. Watched it at least 5-6 times, still could watch it. Some scenes make you very emotional. The songs just icing on the cake - the ones you grew up with.

I was only 17 when this Movie came out and I didn't fully understand it. It's like a fine wine it gets better with time. I now in my own way have had My "Big Chill" Weekend most notably when an Relative died, no suicides Thank God. You get together with Family, Friends, and the like talk out your issues, your life and you reconnect. Later on I wonder if The Car Scene in St. Elmo's Fire was inspired when Harold took Sam, Nick & Chloe to The Cabin. Then when The Wonder Years debuted in 1988 it was called "The Little Chill".

There's some good stuff on Netflix, AMC, etc., that have replaced - to some extent - a number of those movies that came out 20+ years ago with good story lines and characters. Movies cost $100+ million to make, and the studios obviously want their money back from theatre revenue and ancillary income, i.e., sale of super hero dolls and robots.
@patrarus60976 жыл бұрын
Just viewed this gem again and really appreciate it more than ever. A few of the actors became big stars: William Hurt, Glenn Close and Kevin Kline. All of them are excellent. This is a great example of ensemble acting at its best without car chases, vulgarity and sensationalism. Sure, it has sex but it is the PG-rated stuff; nothing explicit, most implied. See this delightful movie if you like decency, dialogue and character development.

I disagree. The age of the characters are in their early 20's? They appear much older but aren't, as we know.. It's of that time. The soundtrack kept that movie going. Most of that cast had their moment in the 1980s onto the 1990s and disappeared quitely. I think it was a launch pad in some ways for Meg Tilly. Who is now a writer and does still act. Pleased to know this movie can still deliver pleasure, abit like Steel Magnolias..

@@CandyAndromeda Yes, I think for me personally that characters in certain movies in a particular era appear to look older than the actual age they are portraying. The Big Chill being one of them. Reading up on it, they are in their 30's it appears.

You know what's so sad. I Second That Emotion was one of Three Songs Smokey Robinson wrote for his Long Suffering Wife Claudette in 1965 after their Fraternal Twin Girls died. The other two were More Love covered by Kim Carnes and I'll Try Something New done by The Supremes & Temptations in 1969 when they did their G.I.T. on Broadway Special in 1969.

Can you imagine how much Bank Smokey Robinson made since he Wrote or Co Wrote alot of the Songs featured in this Movie. Ain't Too Proud To Beg, Ooh Baby Baby, and I Second That Emotion (Sadly enough it was one of Three Songs he wrote for his Former First Wife Claudette who had multiple miscarriages, the others were More Love later sung by Kim Carnes and I'll Try Something New that the Supremes & Temptations performed on a Variety Special in 1968 which was the First All Black Special. His Songs hav also been featured in Platoon, Heaven Help Us aka Catholic Boys and Sister Act where My Guy was parodied as My God. In The UK "Who's Loving You" is now the most popular Audition Song on The X Factor.
