Considering Rapture if literally located within the dark zones of the Ocean, the key is, there is no light, its cold, and the pressure is immense from all the water and atmosphere above. Because of this, people would have to don thick diving suits in order to sink down to the bottom of the sea floor and begin setting up foundational shafts to construct the city. Over time however, with the human form and all its flaws, an idea was hatched, incorporate the diving suit into the human form so no longer would they have to contend with the struggles of sea floor life. Thus the Big Daddies were created. The process to do so however, was less than ideal. So in todays episode, we will discuss what this process was and how it affected the person in the suit!
Thank you for watching Roanoke Gaming and I hope you enjoy The Big Daddy Grotesque Restructuring Process of Bioshock Explored | Adam Gene Alterations Explained

About bone density, bones are "designed" to break because if bone is broken energy is absorbed but joint is protected and joints are harder to repair by body than bones.
@theexchipmunk
@theexchipmunk 2 жыл бұрын
This is a good point. Humans are a bit different in regard to other animals. For most a broken bone will turn deadly, but humans with their ridiculous rate of healing, shock resistance and capability of working together will generally survive a broken bone. And in most cases it can be set without the need of any form of modern medicine. All you need is your hands, some sticks and some form of thread, rope or band. Stuff humans figured out a very long time ago. But joints? Those never heal right even with modern medicine.

just a reminder, that leather armor is about 2 maybe 3 inches thick. the metal plating is also likely quite thick for the unit, as for the head location, the mining ones the top view port is likely where the head is, and the other holes were for mining, drilling, and not tripping over themselves. As for the Bones, a lot of it is likely metal, and spring trap systems were made for that.

@@myfaultog2324 close? It would be more like spring actuated cranes hooked off the belt/back system. As a reminder, these suits actually existed for deep sea mining and salvage. Even the bigger big daddy suits are based off 1940's and 60's navy deeps sea diving suit and the 1880's metal suits. Be next issue is, yes, on the inside the suits probably weigh 300-500lbs, but I'm the water, all that steel and metal is barely enough to keep the poor guy from rocketing to the surface and their blood and organs from exploding thanks to the pressure. Other things to note about the suits, chances are the arms/gloves are fully sealed with mechanical limb extensions through the wrist should allow them to pull finger levers to work the outside hand. The second game cheats with the bruits but, there not an unlikely chance the dude in the suit isn't that much larger than a standard human, just hunched over do to all the all the stuff on their waist and back. @@SergioLeonardoCornejo That’s the point though isn’t it? That he was undone by someone exactly like him who learned Ryan’s politics, and found those that feel through the cracks. I mean there were people who worked their balls off to build the bathyspheres, and bring the modules down to the sea floor, weld them in place, hyper force the water out of them etc. Ryan allowed his own vanity at the idea of “his utopia” to become so unwieldy that guys like Cohen, and Steinman were able to just fart around not take anything too seriously and use the people as “things” because they’re so much better. The guys who had to bust ass see guys like Cohen and can’t help but think “what’s the point? We built this city but he’s the one exploiting our work for his “art”. And they’re not wrong. Cohen never was part of the “great chain” which as an artist you can say is fine. But people saw him act like HE was some great mind that the commoners should be bowing to. These guys who were hurt, mangled, or even killed making Rapture real were replaced for not being “elite” enough. That’s where Atlas comes in. We know that he’s a monster, but they can’t help but see him as a guy for them. There’s only so much serving you can do before you realize “am I part of this society or just a thing to facilitate the hedonism of the elites?” I mean in Rapture would you rather the kinda fruity, crazy, dangerous artist leave, or the upset engineer, who can make repairs to the city if something bad happens? If Ryan had just a bit more humanity. Not even a whole lot just enough to see “the guys who helped me build my dream are falling through the cracks while the entitled insist on making Rapture a place of hedonistic excess” Atlas/Fontaine wouldn’t have been able to rally so many. That’s a tale as old as time. Take the Power To The People machines. Ryan asked “why do we need such things” while Atlas said “we need these things to protect ourselves from the dregs, and the elite when they come for us”. Being a gun owner who lives in an open carry state I get that message 110%. But as guns became more prominent and as they were used in raids against the elites, and by those who were starving and trying to fight of the automated security for scraps. Fontaine knew that would happen. Ryan figured it would happen, but he can’t break his own laws. Until he did. Which again Fontaine knew would happen. Now he’s got an army of armed, knowledgeable engineers, and workers, who see him as a hero. They don’t need Ryan, Ryan needs them. But he’s angry, and use the police as assassins and thugs. Again which Fontaine knew. I think this was to show the faults that can arise in things like Objectivism. Especially since it’s an obvious parallel to Ayn Rands Atlas Shrugged where those who were laborers were seen as parasites and the ones purchasing or hiring the laborers where the only group that mattered. The rest are just things meant to be used. Then there’s Fontaine. He knows this stuff! He’s a con from way back! Thieves leave their victims angry. Cons leave their victims smiling and volunteering to come back again! Two men so unbelievably narcissistic and insecure they have to show the other one why they’re better. Instead of just appealing to the people he attacked.

People actually stay underwater for extended periods of time in real life when drilling and operating equipment for oil rig repair and maintenance. It takes WEEKS to MONTHS to aclimate the body to surface pressures once you get down to the ocean floor. They live, sleep, and eat underwater at extreme depths for weeks. 4 dudes were killed instantly when they opened a hatch without closing one behind them. They were straight up exploded like a video game with one guy's complete liver and heart being found. The double bone density is super interesting. Idk if you’ve done a video on the movie Unbreakable but that was always my theory for what he’s capable of doing in the film. Not necessarily double but probably a much higher number as he walks away from a lot of severe damage without much issue. Plus his weakness to water. He’s basically incapable of swimming and water is used to incapacitate him all the time. I figure because his bones are dense. He can’t float. And that becomes a more psychological issue where he just believes his weakness is water in general. That’s why I like your videos. I love seeing the science connecting the fiction. The individual series or movies might explain them somewhat. But you always get more in-depth and it’s super cool and fun to listen to

What one should keep in mind during all of this lore is that there were Gene Tonics for getting more energy out of the food one eats, among other things, that could be applied to Big Daddies to fuel all of that muscle mass in a way that could free up torso space for a lot more lungs. Sort of just extend the rib-cage, like you see in horses, for more stamina.

Hey Roanoke, what kind of changes would need to be made to prevent “bends”? A condition where a change in pressure(usually from diving) can kill you or otherwise maim you. Solving this issue would surely require modifications of its own for the Big Daddies.

Long duration deep diving is normally conducted from a dive chamber. Living in the city and working outside it would be about the same. You wouldn’t have to deal with the bends as you are not going from high pressure to low pressure unless you go to the surface.
@marcusdaloia2974
@marcusdaloia2974 2 жыл бұрын
Well the bends is caused by nitrogen bubbles developing in your blood soda style so it might actually be as simple as developing some biological mechanism of keeping nitrogen out of the blood stream. *Googles what the body uses nitrogen for* Perhaps by routing it though something similar to the channels used by immune cells? As long as it wasn't in the blood that should be fine.

I think there are too little resources which offer a detailed look into big daddy anatomy (other than the fact that their grafted). This is especially true since these big daddies come in all sorts of varieties, meaning that the formation of a bouncer might be completely different to a Rosie (one might b=have been given sports boost while the other was given headshot capabilities from tonics).

The little sisters show more of the inhumanity of the underwater city. They take young children, who all had their own personality, their own family, and mutated and brainwashed them. They all look and act the same, ya I am certain its cause of game reasons not to make a lot of different versions, but I think the reason they all look the same is they were mass produced. Same personality, same face, same clothes. Look at the DLC for bioshock infinite, where you see a line of these little sisters and they are all the same. Since I could not get the bad ending in the first bioshock, I saw the good ending, where the little sisters pretty much became a family with the guy who saved them, and all had full lives. I legit cried, cause it was a redemption, and a second chance for all of them and the hero.

He'd been lifting weights since a young age, and because of that, the doctors said his bones were incredibly dense. During his surgery, it ended up taking 3 doctors to rebreak his arm (it healed wrong and needed to be reset)! Apparently, if you lift weights for a number of years (he started lifting in middle school and stayed with it for 40+ years), your bones become extremely dense. At least, that's what his doctors said. All of that to say bone density isn't just inherited; you can actually increase it by lifting weights consistently over time!

I imagine that the collar bone of the Big Daddies was destroyed, or possibly anchored to the suit rather then the sternum, to facilitate their drift from the chest to the hump of their back as they became, well, hump-backed from the bodily overdevelopment. That seems like it would neatly explain why their heads were so far forward compared to their shoulders. In a reverse of those neck elongating rings that some cultures use that I believe push the shoulders downwards instead of the head upwards it seems like the shoulders of a Big Daddy are drawn upwards above the head.

We were only going about a hundred yards anyway but the road was really rough and bouncing us. She went to raise the bucket so it wouldn't scrape and the hydraulics went screwy. It slammed it up to its full height and snapped the locking pins, throwing it back at us. I 'caught' it after it crushed the steering wheel, sheered off about a four inch long sheet of flesh from my arm, and cracked my hip. Pushed it off to the side and managed to jump clear of the wheels before I passed out since we were still moving forward. All of this happened in maybe 15 seconds oddly enough but for me it went a lot slower, I even had time in my head to question why I pushed it off to the right and not the left since that would have been easier. The impact force from catching it separated and tore apart the muscle in my left side without ever breaking the skin which took yeeeeeears to heal. Perhaps Subject Delta couldt take his helmet of because he’s from the Alpha-Series. Maybe the later Big Daddys have been twistet in some cruel surgically experiments, and the Alpha-Series would be more human-like creatures underneath. Well, no matter what they look like under the suit, Big Daddys are so cool

interesting thing, after hearing about double bone density i asked my doctor to do a test, turns out my family doesnt have double bone density but instead its more like slightly denser bones , but due to this my family and myself suffer from bone spurs and other such bone growths, aka shitty bone spikes

I have the double bone density also. I used to work in the Caribbean as a snorkel tour guide. I learned to swim at the job, a testament to my interviewing skills by getting a job a actually couldn't do, anyway I made a number of diver friends at the job. I learned that I have negative buoyancy, which make me a great diver. Never did learn to dive.

So nothing on the "becoming a big daddy" process you can experience in-game?
@ceu160193
@ceu160193 2 жыл бұрын
In first game, you kind of can - as it involves changing your vocal cords, putting on suit and covering yourself with pheromones, so Little Sisters trust you. But you never get to experience full process, which includes genetic modification with ADAM, and mental alteration, as new Big Daddy has to go through imprinting to be caring protector of Little Sister. Btw, last part was most tricky, as ADAM couldn't help with that - only psychological imprinting could actually bond Big Daddy and Little Sister.

Technically you just sort of hop inside a suit without going through all the "enhancements"

@@dracotias You put on suit, but then Tenenbaum explains, that it's not enough - you also need change of vocal cords to make Big Daddy sounds and pheromones, so Little Sister would follow you. Poor Jack will never speak normally again after this.

@@UncleMikeDrop Yeah, I don't like in that it's short sighted, addiction free adam would've made less at first, but would've lasted in the long term, and not reduced the city to shambles, really ez to do that with a drugged up populace

@@imonke5303 I doubt it's possible to make ADAM addiction-free in the first place, as you need it to keep your plasmids - body tends to revert back to normal state, causing severe pain in the process. It's possible, however, to make "anti-plasmid", that makes returning to normal less painful.
