People who criticize Walter’s treatment of Donny as abusive did not grow up with brothers, and it shows. Walter literally acts like a cranky older brother towards a younger sibling. But he loves Donny like one, and risks his life for him at the end.

Disdain is quite the opposite of love. It's not a disdain, it's dismissiveness. That's just the way Walter speaks to ppl. Donny is the 3rd wheel in most every scenario and walter treats him accordingly.

"Donny shut the f- when do we play?" One of the funniest moments in film ever, I love how he goes from the natural response to Donny, being to tell him to shut the fuck up, to actually being interested in what Donny has to say. I fucking love John Goodman and I love the Coen Brothers.
@humboldt20872 жыл бұрын
Steve Buscemi has by far the most subtle part in the main cast of this movie, but it is absolutely essential to the structured chaos of the movie's famous dialogue. And Buscemi plays it masterfully. Think about the part where Walter, seconds after telling Donny to shut the f--- up and dismisses the seriousness of a possible murder, gives Donny a knowing look about the Dude being the unreasonable one, and Donny responds with a silent gesture where he plays along sweetly just because he's an innocent people pleaser. It's the kind of detail you notice only after repeat viewings and makes the movie endlessly rewatchable. Oh yeah, and then the totally guileless and optimistic "Oh, yeah, how did that go?" about the cataclysmic shitshow that just unfolded and that the Dude has been apoplectic over for the past several minutes.

Just as subtle would be that Donny does nothing but roll strikes the whole movie and gets no appreciation for it at all. Instead he gets abused every time he opens his mouth. The movie itself hardly takes note of it, even though Donny is the sole reason the team keeps advancing in the tournament

You can really discuss 'The Dude' and 'Walter's true friendship. But more so Walter looks up to The Dude, and you get a sense that Walter really respects 'The Dude' as a person. I don't remember any scenes where we see 'Walter' scream or shouts directly to 'The Dude'. In the meantime, we do see Walter get pissed at others and not to mention at 'Donny'. The Dude and Walter both really need each other, and you can definitely see it. The Dude as a pothead, who's paranoid and freaked out with finding the lost daughter (paranoid from all his weed consumption), wouldn't solve the puzzle all alone and therefore needs Walter assistance in rescuing the daughter. And Walter finds someone who finally listens to his "stupid" ideas (probably not thinking that The Dude is always "high" and not so keen on talking).

a tip for you budding film makers... one thing you notice about the cohen brothers is their scenes always have this related background distracton going on, the weird dancing in the theater, the man on the life support machine when walter goes nuts on the corvette, the phone ringing in this scene. they are intense scenes with a comical backdrop, and after the intense arguing or confrontation is over, there's a quick reference to the surreal background.
@Fan_Made_Videos6 жыл бұрын

Please God give us a Lebowski TV show, and put it on a channel that would do it right.

It should be called "The Little Lebowski" and focuses on the child that The Dude and Maude supposedly had.
