Yeah I feel like it used to be understood that painting/buying an army was a massive long term project, but with painting becoming easier and easier (contrast paints slap chop airbrushing etc) and the game evolving faster than ever, it’s really easy to forget this is still a huge concern and that we’re building very large collections of physical models we have to paint ourselves and not playing league of legends/ just waiting for the next patch to go live

Always been interested in starting to play 40k. I love the lore and have read books, played videogames, etc. and just started picking up some models and trying my hand at painting. My buddy does Space Marines and my other buddy does Necrons, I was trying to decide between Orks and Guard and ended up going with Orks and picked up a box of the old Boyz and a box of Meganobz to start painting. In the "More Painting Advice" timestamp section you mentioned "dry brushing goes a long way." Could you make a video or just a comment expanding on that? Right now I use contrast/speed paints for volume units (Boyz + grots). I try to put more effort and be more deliberate with highlights and such on character models/leaders. What dry brushing techniques/colors (ork specific) do you use to achieve better results? Edit: I also picked up some vibrant inks cause I've seen you and other Warhammer KZbinrs use them, are there instances you use them and how/why? Edit to the edit: gameplay wise, a series on all the different ork matchups and how you play into them would be cool, plus it would lead to a pretty long standing series ;p

If you can’t edge highlight like me dry brushing is your best friend for bringing out those raised edges quick and easy especially for goffs where they are 90% black and since black is literally the absence of color highlighting with more bluey or grey tones really makes them pop

In my experience you need to take a gorkanaut (and a mek for each walker) to run distractions. Run the gorkanaut up the board so theyre scared of it and spend the first shooting phase on it, likely killing the gorkanaut but hopefully by then the stompa is in position to shoot everything off the board

Started Warhammer exactly a year ago today, now the new editions come out im thinking of going into beast snaggas, not sure if they'll be good but I'm sure they'll definitely be fun, just the idea of the hit and run strategy you can do with the return to strategic reinforcement stratagem and the reroll on charge for prey.

great video man, the best part about orks is that there are a bunch of playstyles (not always viable obviously) but the core design of orks, punch a lot and sometimes hard, is kind of static most the time so its always gonna be a safe bet with trukks, warboss, boyz and gretchin which are just bread and butter so even if the orks get into a worse spot, you know what they will ideally be about. and thats the case for most armies really but since orks dont have super nuance its the most reliable. i love hearing you talk about orks, you're very passionate about them and you're a very easy and fun listen

I have a cheap airbrush and have watched videos on airbrushing but I rarely use it. I think my hangup is how to clean it after each use. Everyone shows the actual painting but not the aftermath. Maybe I clean it too thoroughly, because it makes airbrushing such a chore and I would almost always prefer to use a spray can or just paint with a brush. Maybe include that if you do a video? Like what is your cleaning/maintenance process between colors and between projects

Im one of those guys that can get a hold of minis, but cant find anyone within a reasonable distance to play with. Reasonable distance is an hour drive as i live in a very rural area. I want orks mainly cause i enjoy the build and painting part the most. Just get practicing, try some things out. Worst case scenario you can remove the paint but in a squad on the table it doesn't matter that much if your painting isn't that good.

Yeah for sure! I used to use the AK interactive sands a lot, but they dry out super easy and I got frustrated with how poorly the containers seal. Would recommend those if you know that and are down to use them quickly/accept their shelf life isn’t great, but lately I’ve just been airbrushing some Averland sunset mixed with off white (monument hobby pale flesh but kind of doesn’t matter) over a dark brown base coat and it looks just as good to me. Medium brown or orange can make a good vignette for big bases too. I also drybrush a little off white mixed with a tiny amount of yellow at the end

deathskulls are fun! goffs are kind of default, nobz and meganobz are still great, boyz less so. zagstrukk is cool but less relevant in crusade because you can't level him, same with ghaz. if you want something really whacky you could try dreads with three kustom mega blasta and a single klaw in death skulls (better with index death skulls, codex loses re-roll 1/1/1). it's sort of a meme but probably fun for crusade. psychic awakening is also a ton of fun and i'd try to see if your friends let you use it, also a huge fan of the speed mob detachment from octarius.

I always get worried looking at 9th again because while I didn’t play it when it was out, I remember at the time nobody was running the stuff I thought looked fun/cool (Deff Dreads and Meganobz). Any advice on specifically if I wanted to run a freebooterz list for this scenario? Not being able to run Badruk feels kinda bad since he won’t level up. (honestly reading up deathskulls stuff on wahapedia is already making me feel better, this question is more of a curiosity thing)
