As someone commented on reddit... the easy solution to Oshur is stupidly simple: just make 2 continents available at any given time. If the devs ego prevents them from redesigning the Oshur catastrophe, fine... but at least the players who don't like it would have a place to play, instead of logging off. BUT NOOO, we can't have that either, can we? I won't even comment about the CTF because I would be tempted to use very bad words.... But all mentioned issues are nothing compared to the problem of the stupid cheater who has taken over Cobalt server, starting ~a week ago. Unfortunately I very much dobt the devs would be willing to spend any time or resources to address this issue. Eventually, when a plague of cheating c*n*s will appear on every damn server, using the same cheats as this guy, things will go down really quick, most people will leave the game and most of them won't ever return. THIS would be the real death of the game. Not the sickening new Esamir, not the CTF, not even Oshur (as I once thought).

There are alot more cheaters than what you'd suspect , the teleporting mfker flying in the sky is just 1 in thousands . Alot of aim-botters i've seen these days . Also Most imrpotant thing at this point would be OPTIMISATION this games is way to old to run so poorly we neeed OPTIMISATION bringing the game back to DX9 would fix some stuff resulting in FPS increase also, buffing and nerfing certails classes and abilities.

Oshur is still the best test candidate for PS1 hard towers given it's distance between bases. IMO, a number of PS2 woes would be resolved with PS1 design concepts. PS1 knew better than letting attackers rely solely on softspawns, so it used tertiary flippable hardspawns. I really, really want to see if this design would improve things and Oshur is the best target to attempt.

Why feeling sorry for him???? He had the opportunity to make this game GREAT, but he ruined it instead. While he was "lead designer" of this game, all they did was changing things that didn't need changing and not fixing problems that needed fixing. I think the game, as it was in 2014, was better than it is today, from the design perspective (not the occasional bug fixes). The only positive thing they deserve credit for is the construction system. The rest is pure garbage: first they made all biolabs ugly (citing "performance issues"), instead optimizing the 3D meshes... (for instance, if you ever fall through the floor you could see just how many "garbage" useless geometry is just left there, on every continent, eating your FPS and memory for no reason!) Then they continued with adding the stupid implant system, then the Esamir redesign nightmare together with the "electric storms" (at least they removed that sh**), then the containment sites, then they removed the TI Alloys bridge on Indar, one of the best features of that continent - because the fights were too fun there!!! Then came Oshur and as the last straw - the capture the flag idiocy. Bad design decision after bad design decision, like a drunk man stumbling on every damn rock on the road until breaking his neck!!! And after "shi**ing all over the bed", the guy cheerfully leaves to find another game to destroy!!!! I pitty the fools who would hire wrel to "design" their game.

I couldn't believe the OW announcement, last year's battles were always completely lopsided, I can't think of a single game on emerald that didn't end without a last base capture. I could be wrong but I wasted time to watch them all hoping for some real fights but the skill levels were simply so overwhelming lopsided completely.

@@abotaccount6094 no one hates the players, I simply acknowledge that even at the highest levels of skill there is a tendency for outfits to be extremely disportionately skilled. Last year the NC team that took first place did not lose a single match, it was never even close, this is because the top skill does not trickle down "to encourage other players to get gud". Skill in pvp mmos tends to start pooling as "gud" players want play woth eachother not against each other. then a critical mass is reached where it simply becomes exponentially above all others and there is no reason to ever play against them. Population can hide this effect for awhile but as Population dies, the gap between players will increase and push more players out.

@@Luluchan00 I played since one, the issue is churn and burn, all pvp mmo churn and burn thru population. The faster skill pools the faster it burns population. Planetside is not the only game I've seen this, eventually there is just a couple guilds and almost everyone has quit. The time to play pvp mmos is the first six months when everyone is learning. After that the population naturally declines as players get tired of dying, and only pops back up briefly for a Shiney release before losing pop again.

I feel as though it's not Oshur completely, it's just how the bases are designed, if they made it to where underwater bases had some air bubble spots where you could fight dry, it would help, not to mention the lack of cover in areas where you move at .25 speed I've been trying to get them to make a destructible air bubble tactical which would help immensely, as well as getting other abilities other than just jetpacks to work underwater. The physics engine is extremely limiting, but elevators would be great for Tridents, or at least some kind of system where players could enter from the bottom and get to the top, aircraft would easily cut the time to get into the trident greatly, but they should have staircases spiraling on the outside where players could run up them or something, this way aircraft is still a vastly superior method, but new players aren't going to be completely lost on how to get there. Also, interlinks need more than one obvious pathway, I can't imagine how bottlenecked most players are on PC, I know there are other ways out, but every other path runs heavy A2G risk, maybe instead of the "run forward" spawn, there could be spawn tubes covered like the teleporters in biolabs. It's impossible for Planetside to be truly bad at this point simply due to the fact that planetside is the only game/franchise to ever accomplish what it has. It has its problems for sure; trust me, I'm one of the oldest accounts in the game; but logically speaking it litteraly cannot be a bad game. Bad games dont stand alone and especially not for 10 years straight; 20 if you count the original game which was essentially just low poly planetside 2.

The PvP in Elder Scrolls Online is somewhat similar. I remember when a 40k mmo was being worked on the devs initially compared it to Planetside 2, but quickly pulled back from that promise and then released a glorified Battlefield Space Marine game.

They killed construction, they killed max fights, they killed good vhc fights. Ya the original bastion was broken and op for killing ground but it caused fights that moved across the map and not get atuck at one base. I think the real start of the player decline wasnt any of the actual update but was just "life". People started to have more responsibility and not having the time to play/grind out certs. So they dropped the game for a less grindy game. Ya there are players who left because of updates/dev teams. But with a steady decline of players i assume daybreak was thinking " since less people are consistently playing our player base is dying. So we dont have to dedicate as much resources to the game" while the recourses they did dedicate to the game were on things the playerbase had serious negative feedback. And instead of paying attention to player feedback they just went ahead with the projects. Daybreak saying " they arent gonna change anything their codevelopers worked on is pretty much saying " we know you dont like these things but we dont care" which has had another negative response from players.

Ive been on a long hiatus from ps2 given all it has become is the same cycle of low pop fights and cheese or sunderer hunters killing fights before they start, and the lack of anything new besides skins. Honestly, ctf should be limited 3-5 caps per base per size of base, so its not a stalemate for 30 mins. Base construction i wish brought back AI turrets that as a trade off are weaker and cannot be piloted (bad take ik but i was a solo builder making front and backline spawn points so the ai was nice.) Light Assault gets oppressive sometimes depending on the base making it not fun to fight in, and the vanguard did not need a shield buff, it was great already. Some stuff does need a revert, like the fallen oshur base. Esamir needs a more effective remodel, especially up north, and another sweep of wep rebalancing specifically for LA imo. And ill get flak for this but LA should only have 1 c4, not 2. Ill probably play again near christmas but this is my ideal coping wishlist for now.

I'm honestly sick and tired of having to deal with this game and his problems. I used to play every single day cause i thought i had a goal. But running every time towards the same server issues, arsenal inbalance, soft-cheat users has proven to be too much. I simply have no fun with the game anymore. I can even try to join a zerg platoon to have some easy time here and there but i know at some point of the match i will incounter some bullshit that exist since day one and then all my fun dries out. I bought some other games recently, i will experiment with those, but sure as hell, i'm not gonna go back on Planetside anytime soon

This is one of those games I totally love but would never recommend to anyone. It's so fun and unique but having started over a character on Emerald to avoid the horrible lag on Connery, I realized how much grind was in this game for new players, especially around implants. Also having to learn how to actually find good fights and knowing when its time to move on from a lost battle is a big hurtle for new players. Its often super frustrating to me to not be able to find any decent fights all night, I can only imagine how little enjoyment a new player would get out of the experience. While I still jump on from time to time, I think the glory days of Planetside are behind us which is a total shame

It's because Wrel, despite his flaws, understood the reality of modern game products: new content brings back player volume. This can be witnessed with huge games like Diablo 4, which sank down to as low as 500 viewers a day, and is now back up to 10k+ with Season 2. The sad thing is that outfit wars really kills the player base. Some of the people in my outfit had played in OW with other outfits, and those outfits no longer exist. This is just going to kill the game even faster, and it is a very sad sight to see. I haven't been playing for a long time, but I love playing this game. Sad to see it go, and no one has even leaked a possibility to having a sequel. I love playing in platoons, but that is the only real reason that I stay in PS2. I have a great outfit that makes sure they have fun in platoons. Now it may never have a chance to exist ever again. It is such a sad sight to see a great game that has potential just get run into the ground by the devs. Keep up the good work, and can't wait to see if you ever go into any other games!

7:20 hey former ps2 gamer here. You're wrong about this part. I moved onto different games in the genre that have devs with a better view and perspective on what they want their game to be. Whether that's Squad, Hell Let Loose, ARMA3, etc. The devs might not always make the best decisions for these games but they certainly have a vison for what they want their games to be. PS2 is bleeding veteran players to competition, I am one of them and the steam charts suggest I am not alone. I still love PS2 but I can't bring myself to play it given how shit the engine is for modern hardware, how shit the gameplay has become, how dated the shooting and time to kill feel, among a lot of other issues that just make the game incredibly unfun to play after a long break. That said, I can definitely say that a lot of people who quit the game still feel strongly about the game seeing as your video has over 5x the amount of monthly active users. It's just a shame that daybreak won't greenlight a sequel while the battlefield franchise is as fucked as it is.

Having 1 person control where a game is gonna go has never been a good idea. They get too much power, they end up in a place they feel powerful and then make bad decisions from it. That's basically anything in any industry. To much power by a single person and it goes to their head. Planetside 2 was a decent game. Until they started getting stuff into the game that are less then dessirable. A bunch of things that they just made because they can. One of those things where the damn place in the sky. Like how many times do you actually see people actively being there outside of just either standing AFK or just getting mods that they went out of their way to make only accessable through there. Planetside 2 has become a ship with a ripped hull that slowly taking in water just waiting to capsize whilst being on fire aswell. The devs shat all over the playerbase by making bad maps bad decisions bad contennnt and a bunch of other bad things that virtually nobody would ask for. I've been banned for long now when i actually spoke out about it and they banned me for it permanently. So all i can say is that i don't care too much to see these developers shaft their game, even though i was passionate about this game. The time and money i dropped into that banned account won't really make it any better by that. Im more disappointed for those poor people who still play this game and have to suffer through this shit and the devs does fuck all about all the games issues.

It's like Im caught in a loop with OW and the proceeding hype only for it to be cancelled or just be sh!t and expose the fatal flaws in wanting to turn this game into a cash cow for the share holders. They kind of killed PS2 in the cradle by pushing OW from the beginning in my humble opinion - the old heads that cant see further than their wanking hand should of been told to shut up as they always have been out of touch by pushing OW a decade ago. PS2 had multiple income streams already, which could have been used to design current content - keeping the player absorbed in the world of PS2, which is all we wanted. You know, to be working towards a common goal with our irl friends and new friends. Call me crazy but Im sure its worked for some forgotten titles. Like WoW, MineCraft, etc - you know.. the standard for mmo's. Haha Fuck steaks man, its like people are tone death to the point of being suicidal.
