While starting to study for my private (still in the middle of it) I looked for a good set of flashcards, and never found what I was looking for. Glad to see this and I can’t wait to get my hands on a set. I joined the waitlist. Also thank you for making the content you make. It’s helped me greatly in my pursuit of aviation. Your video about taking one small step convinced me to order a logbook and put my name in it, and I’ve been broke since… oh I mean training since. I even bought a plane! Keep up the great work.

Congratulations! This is awesome! I just joined the list before commenting. Lol. I’m about to start 0-hero in January. I just watched this from my hotel room in mass. I’m up here for the pre buy insp on a 1958 IFR 175 that I’m buying. This came at a perfect time!!! Brilliant work it looks amazing! Cant wait to get a set. I think you’re going to crush your projections!!

This is amazing. I have my PPL, but I can already see how this can be very beneficial. You are completely correct, there are a lot of things that we just memorize for a test. Looking forward to getting my CFI, I am often wondering how I can be able to teach new students when I can't remember everything. This will help out a lot. Thanks for your hard work and I know many of us would like to see something like this for Instrument as well.

This is what I did to prep for my private pilot oral. I was reading through the ASA oral exam guide book and realized I needed to interact with the information. I must have copied over half that book onto index cards. It was key in me being prepared for my check ride. Planning to do the same for my instrument check ride. Illustrations would have been even more helpful. Great project!
@GusHeckАй бұрын
One of the biggest things to hit with this is V speeds. A real explanation of each would be super helpful. There are some that are defined in the official docs with unclear/stacked terminology such that you can't understand the explanation without knowing other stuff. Phrases like "defined configuration", and "assumed to stall" need better context. The answers side should convey understanding as well as the official phrase for a test answer. Also indication of which ones are relevant for SE Land, vs ME or Commercial Jets would be good.

That’s great but…I’m on IFR now. Sure hope you are working on those too because these cards look awesome! When I was doing PPL I made flashcards and used an electronic app. Didn’t love that method and would prefer a premade set like you have made probably

There have been numerous studies that found that we as humans understand and retain knowledge better from printed (physical) media compared to electronic media, so I think this will be an invaluable tool.

Nice idea good for someone that has studied the whole subject and allow them to help review but all that said, IMHO paper cards are a thing of the past, would prefer it to be a digital version. Other concern would be, could replaced by a LLM with the whole subject. Best of luck with it.

YESSSSSSS, so AWESOME. Although I'm Canadian, I would imagine the majority of the "study flash cards" you are making will be applicable. Those few areas that are different I should easily be able to modify for the Canadian Regulations. Looking forward to picking up a set. THANK YOU for sharing your expertise and passion for aviation. Love your videos, entertaining and educational. C L E A RRRR !!!! LOL Wishing you light winds and clear skies from CYQT.

Great stuff! Will come in handy for flight reviews and just keeping handy to review on an on going basis. Way better than an electronic version. I too am old school 😂. Just joined the waitlist. As a career Finance dude who is also a pilot, be sure to set the proper price point. Curious if you surveyed what folks would be willing to pay. Personally….$29.99. Hopefully it is in that range. Can’t wait.

For clarification, aren't both the Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge and the FAR/AIM annual books? How will the flashcards be "used for years of study" if the information on them comes from books that are updated annually? Love the videos and content. Great work, keep it up.
@AirplaneAcademyАй бұрын
The PHAK isn't updated annually but the FARs sometimes do in minor ways. They don't change materially though and I'll issue updates in the future as minor things change. Really the only stuff that is changing is some technology (which is slow to change) and there are minor regulation changes and stuff. For example, the rules on BasicMed just changed a tiny bit but I got those into the first edition of the cards.
@blakeb5016Ай бұрын
@AirplaneAcademy thank you for clarifying!

Looks great, but I’d only purchase a digital version - that way I never lose it, they don’t get worn out, and I could study them anywhere

Noted! I might be doing that in the future. I wanted to get these in people's hands first and then ask what they would like next so that I'm not guessing.

I really appreciate the effort to making the physical cards, but I would be very interested if there was a mobile app, so I could have them everywhere I go. Looks like it is going to be an amazing product.

Thank you! I'm considering that as well. I want to get these in the hands of folks and then figure out exactly what everyone wants next so that I'm not guessing.

@AirplaneAcademyАй бұрын
I did. And yep, I'm sort of working on that now. I realized I needed to re-learn and memorize all of this stuff anyways for CFI and I had to build my own study guide for that so these flashcards are kind of my study guide that I made by hand.

@alk672Ай бұрын
People become fluent in other things by doing them consistently and correctly. That's how you can tell which FARs are useful and which ones are bullshit. If you've been flying semi-regularly between flight reviews you'll remember the radio protocol for entering Delta airspace no problem, but there's no way you'll remember the three altitudes for oxygen requirements (sometimes even if you do occasionally fly with oxygen), or minimum VFR cloud clearances in class Golf above 10 thousand feet at night in a helicopter. Flash cards are exactly the wrong way to remember things - they are indeed just preparing for a test. If you don't use it - you'll lose it, flash cards only help with rote memorization, and only for as long as you keep drilling them in.

I hate to break your rice bowl, but much of the value in flash cards comes from the process of making them, including both the thinking about what to include and the process of actually creating the physical objects. Buying someone else's cards won't have as much benefit.
@aaronbrown6266Ай бұрын
If they're based on the PHAK and FARs, they apply to all pilots.

Fantastic! I love human learning! What Fun. There is no better way to learn a subject than to put yourself in a position to teach it to someone else. And 100% right! "memorizing" leads to shallow, short term knowledge. But taking the information and working with it, organizing it into your own structure, and creating a new way to condense and present it will lead to understanding. Best of luck with the cards! I think they will be a huge success.
