Shark Tank Australia

Күн бұрын

The biggest investment secured in Shark Tank history is Kane Bodiam's 'iCapsulate' - a coffee pod manufacturer specializing in capsules, pods, and roasted beans. Kane's initial ask was $2.5M in return for a 15% equity stake.
An international sensation, Shark Tank AUS features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Tank from our Sharks, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

Anyone realised how he used negative words (such as bad, evil) when speaking about regular coffee and using a dark and smaller cup he even advices them not to drink it making it psychologically embarresing to say it tastes good, automatically setting the bar high for the next cup. When talking about iCapsulate he used white and used positive words. Amazing pitch, cheers to Kane Bodiam!

That guy on the end smelled the BS from a mile away. And he was right. Turns our this guy was lying about many things. He didn’t have contracts with all the major companies like he claimed (which was obvious, seeing as major corporations aren’t going to switch their entire products over to a company that started just a year ago. Even if they did like his capsules, business simply doesn’t move that fast). The deal ended up falling through and his business went under. Google it. Funny seeing that one shark at the end getting bad vibes over this. Smart man. The rest were quick to jump on him - when he was the only one actually looking into this guys story and asking the right questions.

I'd be pissed. if i didn't know how to control my emotions. I've been studying for 2 years and still learning there is so much left for me to keep learning. This game ain't easy and if you fall just from rich people telling you no and laughing at your attempt, either you got more studying to do or you just wasn't made for this.

Let me accurately describe what happened next in short: The deal was on hold for a couple months while competition battered the founder over false claims made during the pitch (they indeed were false). The guy also got locked up in a legal battle with previous employers because of possible fraud/misdeeds. The deal did fall through eventually, but that was because their claim of Biodegradable pods was false, and Banks pulled out even though their sales were fantastic, and Bodiam later claimed that the fall through reason was inaccurate and they already have all certifications, but internally, they didn't value the $2.5 mil a lot and just wanted to go alone. He got the marketting he wanted :)

Almost a year later (in 2018), Andrew Banks confirmed the iCapsulate deal ultimately fell through due to the company’s claims about its biodegradable capsules not being accurate. “It didn’t go because on the show you’ll remember they said, ‘we are the exclusive producers of biodegradable coffee pods and the CSIRO will validate that soon’,” Banks said in March 2018. “And guess what? They didn’t, and they aren’t. So for 2.5 million bucks I wasn’t going to risk that. It was [a shame], because their revenues were getting close to $15 million that year and $21 million the next, they had a reasonable business. They still [do], they just don’t have my money.” Kane Bodiam (founder) disputed what Banks said, saying his claims were “basically false” and that all certifications for the coffee pods’ being biodegradable were there. He said the decision to not proceed with the deal was an internal one at the company. “We gave them some info at the beginning, but when we received all the certification and everything we just never continued [with the deal],” the founder told news.com.au. “They stopped communicating so we stopped communicating. It was just moving slowly and we were moving quite quickly. We made a decision probably two or three months after we met Andrew that we were just going to go it alone.” Additionally, the founder said the $2.5 million capital injection wasn’t a great deal of money to the company, as it would be equal to “barely a deposit on new machinery”. According to administrator Andrew Barnden, iCapsulate doesn’t have any significant outstanding debts, bar a “fair bit of money still owed on equipment”. For anyone interested - the deal never went ahead, it's claimed Andrew pulled out, but the founder stated it was a decision made internally by the company. A few months after the deal collapsed, the company went into voluntary administration.

Not really. It was found out that the icapsulate were not actually biodegradable . The company’s worth is below 100k now

I looked it up and apparently had failed, or at least was claimed insolvent and the deal fell through as iCapsulate got critique from companies of the same market, which led to a deeper questioning of the (astonishing) numbers he claimed basically. What a shame I was really impressed

Unfortunately the deal fell through “However, almost a year later, Banks confirmed the iCapsulate deal ultimately fell through due to the company’s claims about its biodegradable capsules not being accurate.”

From what I’ve seen, not only has he broken records as being the largest deal but he’s also broken the record of being that largest deal for a now failed company.

@@rightpadding Just searched it and read an article that said the deal never happened. They stopped communicating and then the shark tried to verify a claim they made about being exclusive makers of that type of pod and found out they weren't so he kept his money. And yes they are now worth about 100k.
