Something to point out, In the trailer for "A hunter's cry" Duke points out worriedly that the other pirates will be coming for Merrick. Maybe it's nothing, But maybe Duke is beginning to see how Wonda is starting to go off the rails, Like how he saw Flameheart's rage consume him, Which could end up with history repeating itself.

Honestly I want to redeem him. Like at the end of some major new tall tale arc we get to see a “coming home” ceremony for him, with his past revealed to him, and many of his wrongs righted by another sacrifice, even if as one of those weird Athena ghosts. Even during the Hunter’s Cry adventure my first reaction to seeing him, even while surrounded by other players was to go “Hi Duke, hope you’ve been doing alright”, as if he could hear me. I just always had a soft spot for him, like a troublesome older brother that you want to see turn their life around. Perhaps an ode to my own brother who has been estranged for over a decade and a half.

the Reaper’s and Athena’s Fortune are so ideologically opposed I really hope this doesn’t happen. It would be so weird to see them team up for any reason. I think personally they should deal with the threats seperatelt

@@speakersot2110 I understand what you mean but when compared to the greater existential threat that the GMU would pose to all pirates if they were somehow able to get their fleets through the shroud I think that would be the only way. Or maybe on a smaller scale there could be an adventure where the players would have to choose between the Sovereigns and the Reapers. I personally have been very anti reaper but I would probably end up siding with them if it meant we could keep the GMUs influence out of the SOT. Just thoughts

@@speakersot2110 Tbh compared to the GMU not really, Regardless of eachothers motives and goals both Athena’s Fortune and The Reapers want to preserve the Pirates life in their own way, And the GMUs goal is to destroy it. It could be as simple as the Enemy of my Enemy is my friend and the Reapers and Athena’s fortune would deal with the GMUs astronomical forces together

i think they're most likely evil already and we're doing their bidding while using their service think about it: they give us a comfortable way to sell everything through them, make sure the treasures go to the respective guilds, while charging no fee whatsoever? what's in it for them? it's too good to be true, just innocent and helpful people on the sea of thieves making no profit

I'm thinking Flameheart told Wanda about him, she brought his memories back, and Duke's side of the story cause the faction to fracture. He returned to the taverns acting real funny cause he just found out who he was.

I didn't even realize there was a story. Going through all these comments talking about lore and huge events and stuff has me going like "huh? When was that ever in the game?" I feel like there's a huge difference between the lore and what we actually do on the game. I mean we mostly sail around, fight bosses at points of interest, collect pretty things, then drop them off somewhere else. There isn't a lot of opportunity to delve into lore while still playing the game normally.

When ever I tried mentioning issues in the community on discord I would get verbal attacks. I tried to find groups in discord, but everyone is so picky on exactly what quests they want to do. All I wanted was just a group to play with. Just wanted to play game. There is too many toxic players in this game. New players are most likely to quit playing. But everyone fails to see this issue for some reason.

This game literally attracts Narcissists, I had the same exact problem trying to find teammates. Most people watch streamers and think that is how you play the game is to screw other people over and that is all they know because of how much that is promoted by the majority of the community. It is no community I would want to bring a kid to play in, that's for sure. This games been dead to me awhile anyways. Ill try once in awhile but most people don't want to play and those that do are just out for blood and don't want to play anything but the people. BORING. Taking out Arena and promoting the toxic behavior of streamers who literally use discord servers to find people with loot in servers is literally cheating and ALL your fav. streamers do it. They have to cheat and then feel good about themselves and talk smack. Go out looking for people to fight and tuck on like your favorite streamer does and you will learn how true this is FAST. Barely see anyone for hours without help from others and server hopping which is NOT how the games meant to be played, and I really wish RARE did something about it. Worst part is rare seems to support most those people and that behavior. I can not hop servers with loot to avoid these players, and I can not have a team of followers on discord looking for a safe server to join to avoid them in the same way they find me, so how is this fair at all? Literal Trolls. This game promotes being a sociopath. I do not need to hurt others to enjoy myself, only sicko predators behave this way in a cartoon Disney Jack sparrow game... Gross, the game is amazing the community is really the problem.

Some events in the book seem to be tied into current events in the game, the Sovereigns' arrival, which are really the GMU in disguise. The Servant's plan to bring his father back is advancing. A little bit more information on the Servant, whose son was he? hmmm... That could be some major twist in the story in the future. The book explaining Flameheart's hatred for the GMU and Duke's backstory, it all might be leading up to something that they want to reveal in the game, and that's why the book is leaving the information out, to avoid spoilers? It could be we are to participate in the next chapter, perhaps to fight alongside the Pirate Lord or Flameheart against the GMU? Maybe one of those "choose your own adventure" outcomes like the fight for Golden Sands. Also we sell the Box of Secrets to Grace Morrow, so how does she tie in? She's seems a little off, and most people though it was from the poisoning... what if she looked in a box too? And I always felt Duke's whole story was tragic. He just wanted a place to belong, and everyone kicks him to the curb. Now this... I hope he's going to be okay in the end. Again, I feel like the book might be a set-up for future updates. A silly speculation - What about Jonah? He's the trader at Wild Treasures that's a couple short of a six-pack. He's lonely and doesn't have any friends, but believes it's for the best. He used to be at Daggertooth until the "incident." Emerick, who appears to have a wild imagination, claims Jonah is really a Skeleton Lord that wants to take over with his skeletal army.... So what if he's not crazy? What if Jonah has possession of a box of secrets and he was using it in secret when Emerick overheard the conversation? He might have thought he was speaking to someone, but if he looked he would only see one person in the room, which shook him up mentally and now he thinks Jonah and the voice of a skelly lord is one in the same.... or maybe they've been out there too long and are both just nutty.

Just got the book today and started reading it... Seems like Chris ignored quite a few things from the games timeline. Fist thing I hit was Cursed Cannon Balls. The Warsmith invented those and that was after Flamehearts ship was sunk. So there is no way he should be firing those.

The cursed cannonballs are an adaptation of the older technology. Wanda made them from scraps of cursed iron, taken from a dismantled cannon salvaged from the wreck of the Burning Blade. While the cannonballs contain the curses, the cannons made the curses. It's a fragment of the cannon's power in each lump of iron.

I would of kept playing this game but its kind of hard being a new player trying to get good in a game with no matchmaking system to find others to play with. Only thing I end up happening is a group of 4 players ends up coming around and killing me. The game is broken imo. They either need a matchmaking system or some way new players can play without being hunted everytime they try to play solo lol. Not sure why the SoT community fails to see this issue. I guess they been playing for years so they have no issues. But the new players trying to play alone will never stay playing this game.
