The origami you got is a very common origami fold of “Kabuto”, what samurai war lords wore into battle during the late 1500’s. Basically a helmet. Kabuto origami is one of the beginner folds that many kids learn to fold. People send them as good luck/sending bad sprints away.

Victor Khor Crane origami is a wish for good luck/fortune. Ancient Japanese believed that cranes cry/voices are loud enough to be heard by the gods in the heavens, thus it brings luck (god hears them and responds).

Of note, you all probably know that Gundam when originally designed by Kunio Ogawara adopted some of the Samurai elements. Top/center of Gundam’s head resembles Samurai’s typical topknot hairdos called “chonmage”. Gundam’s squared shoulders resemble Samurai’s formal kimono attire’s shoulder design called “kamishimo”. Maybe the package sender knowingly included the good luck charm of the Kabuto origami also doubled as related to Gundam’s original design concept.

I just finished building a PG exia 1/60 scale and it was so much fun!!

Due to it's size, for strength they made blowmold parts. It reduces the stress on some parts that could cause warpage deforming the kit once assembled. It even says on the box incluses blowmold parts. Can't wait to see it completed.

The smell is likely mildew, if the box ever got even a little damp. You can tell if it sort of smells like an old basement.

It’s crazy to think in an attic I have a bunch of old gundam model kits that would probably sell for more than used cars right now. And then even crazier, underneath a porch and inside of a wall in my old house there are literally hundreds of Batman and power ranger action figures and zords. Batplanes, Batmobiles, etc. all stuck under the porch because our dog liked to bury them.

Being a smoker myself I admit I always smoke outside anyways. We all know Car & Jet exhaust is more acceptable lol. Get some Febreeze with unstoppables in it and stand a few feet away, aim and spray and your model will never smell like smoke again. Just mist it don't saturate it or you'll end up with streaks and compacted dust on the surface. These are plastic so a quick dip in water and dish soap will cure that too, unless you put decals and stickers on already then I'd say use the febreeze method.

I built this one almost ten years ago. There are brass joints and the articulated hand is as big as a human hand. There was a Korean blog with pictures of his build. Some edition came with a t-shirt. Enjoy your build.

You must be thinking of the 1/12 scale. This one is only 65cm tall. The 1/12 is as tall as Meli.

When buying from ebay you need to be careful that it's not a KO. The black and white instructions and general "Kinkos" quality poster kinda seem like they're KO'ish. Especially with a kit this old, a lot of Chinese garage companies try to reprint them. Bandai keeps a pretty strict lockdown on it, but still. The color on the box seems to indicate it's authentic.
