Civ 7's AI has to be so much better than Civ 6's. Here's what needs improving! Music: Far Away - MK2 #Civ7 #CivilizationVII #onemoreturn

I agree, keeping up and not getting stormed by a domination civ classical era is a bit rough. Just because all the values are warped

One of the major issues is that the AI just sort of gives up during the mid game. They'll stop settling new cities (despite plenty of land available), don't improve tiles, don't repair stuff (I've seen tiles and districts stay pillaged for centuries) and don't seem to change their governments (it's a common occurrence to have the AI still running a tier 1 or 2 government well into the modern era). They don't try and stop you from winning. It never builds enough military - even aggressive, militaristic civs sit around with hardly anything. The problem with deity is it's just not fun, and it's not particularly difficult either once you understand the game's mechanics. It's just surviving the early game and once you're through that it's no harder than any other difficulty.

Thanks for adding to what was discussed in the video. Yeah, it can just feel like they have given up. Thanks for watching!

i think the biggest problem of the ai is they hardly don't even try to win the game...

I can only dream of a Civ game where the hardest AI felt fair AND challenging.

I hope civ 7 will also have economic victory, and also maybe a new policy type, perhaps social policy cards, that give bonuses based on population and amenities

I would love an economic victory!

Game AI is such a slippery slope when it comes to strategy. It is often so stupid, but if you make it too good the game starts to play you, and not the other way around. I think the only thing I want to see improved AI wise is smarter unit movement. The enemy should not start moving their bombards when preparing to fire on a city, for example, though I think it's fine if they don't necessarily have 100% optimization when laying down districts.
@MultiplayerMedia25 күн бұрын
That's a really interesting point. Getting the balance right will be important for sure!

Smarter AI for this last generation would have been one that mirrors you movements and tactics, easily programable but they didnt do that.. For civ 7 they could add features like that alongside civ specific traits, or the AI taking into account terrain of their civilization using their units better for their needs. Right now the AI forward settles you regardless of other opportunities on the map and then don't attack you if you have a sight advantage. Also diplomacy and denouncing needs overhaul, sick of games where i cant trade because i went to war 1500 years ago. Id also like the option to buy tiles/land as a late game policy and gift units

Honestly I'd just hope that the maps'd get bigger and have better world generation. I'm sick of playing in endless jungles.

Just train it with llm and add some weighted rewards based on difficulty setting. It will be way better than just giving bonuses.

What I would suggest is crowdsource it: create a system where anyone (not even mod developers) can write their own AI and play against and refine it. It can even be written for a particular civilization, to maximize the benefits from that civ's abilities. However, this ability should come with the caveat that the game developers get to see and have permission to use anything generated. There could even be some benefit, beyond simple bragging rights, for the user who writes the AI which eventually becomes the default "Deity" AI for a particular civilization.

All the problems you mentioned have been problems since the days of Civ 1 and 2. The fact that they had done nothing to fix them by Civ6 means they probably aren't ever going to fix them. Long waits for your turn, poor AI decision making, increasing difficulty by giving AI unfair advantages are the hallmarks of all Civ games. We will probably need studios other than Firaxis to make the game we want sadly
@dpakj98917 күн бұрын
Ai has come a long way in the past 8 years or so. Mtcs has revolutionized games like chess and go and its not a stretch to see it integrated into other games

They might add an AI based on the new massive learning models, but I'm not sure how effective that would be for a new game which does not yet have any human players to learn from. Such AI's aren't really "intelligent", they are just guessing what a human would do under the same circumstances based on past human actions. You would need a lot of history of humans playing Civ 7 in order to train such an AI.
@haukionkannel14 күн бұрын
That needs super computers, home computers are not fast enough… how many tens or hundred dollars would you be willing to pay for online supercomputer support for AI? $20 / month $50/ month $200/ month? Yeah… the AI will be as weak as ever also in civ7!
@Jalbesbe17 күн бұрын
Kinda part of why I didn't like Civ 6 even more. With all the new mechanics the AI just didn't know how to do anything, plus the format, gameplay, and feel of Civ V was just far better

It's interesting to get other people's perspective and Civ 5 still seems really popular. Thanks for watching!

Music and sound effects in this video are way too loud. Definitely agree with the point, though. Intelligent CPU opponents should really be top priority for games like this.
@MultiplayerMedia25 күн бұрын
Thanks for the feedback - we're still working on the sound effects and how best to implement them out. 100% should be a top priority for all games like Civ 7. Thanks for watching.

That's why we have mods that fix the AI from CIV 5 to CIV 6. For sure regardless of AI quality on vanilla CIV 7 there would always be AI fix mods from the community. I'd rather have additional features or them refining existing features

For sure it's important that Civ 7 brings lots of new and unique features. The map is a good example of where I'd like to see a lot of development. Thanks for watching!

I wish the game learned from Humankinds AI. Customizable figureheads for civs, as you said, balanced allrounded AI, not just increased bonuses.
@MultiplayerMedia25 күн бұрын
Basing difficulty on increased bonuses can't be the way forward, haha
@BiosapiensКүн бұрын
CIV 7 must go back to the basics. AI can't handle the so many "mini-game within the game". CIV4 was the pinacle of AI, because it was easy for it to move units in a stack and could give you a tough time even on medium difficulty.
@VoidHeart5624 күн бұрын
At the very least give them bonuses that scale with the game, not just a massive head start

I absolutely disagree with you. You do not want a toucher AI. What is literally the number one complaint about Call of Duty… the skill based matchmaking. If you had an ai that matched your skill, every game would be grinding and not fun. It’s fun to finally get the skills enough to beat deity and you get to watch your empire snowball and just absolutely crush. It would suck to be challenged every time i play for the entire game. Imho. I only speak for myself though.
@MultiplayerMedia15 күн бұрын
Nothing wrong with disagreeing! Good to get a different opinion on things - I can see your point though I'd personally rather have a smarter AI opponent. Thanks for watching! 🙂

Improving the trashy cartoon graphics is even more important imo. I made the mistake of preordering civ 6. Going to wait and see what civ 7 looks like and if its more mobile cartoon garbage its back to civ 5 for me.

The console hardware that is the target of Civ7 is about the same level as with civ6 so the AI will be about the same level as with civ6… You van not make better AI without big jump in the lovest end of target hardware and that has not happened! Even fastest home computers need super computer support to run most AI task people use computers… let alone what the weakest consoles can do!
