Part of the problem with all these recalls here in Alaska is we have very limited number of dealerships in the state. So these dealerships book up months out doing recall and warranty work... which makes for long waits for the customer. I myself am dealing with this as my 2020 2 door Jeep Rubicon was in for 3.5 months for a clutch recall in winter of 2021-2022, and currently it's in for engine issues since May 23rd of this year. And because of the backlog scheduling took the dealership 4 months to finally determine I need to replace the engine, and now they are awaiting a 45 day minimum backlog of 3.6 Penastar orders to get me a rebuilt engine to replace it (not a newly manufactured one). So yeah with insurance paying close to $1100/month for a vehicle I cannot drive is really turning me off on all these manufactures at present. We need simpler vehicles, as the complexity is causing more problems and issues. Now if only Suzuki would bring in the Jimney's to North America we could have a simple easy to work on 4x4 without all the complexities inherent to the current batch of crap these auto makers are putting out. Short Edit: Oh.. and I am driving a rusty 40 year old 1983 Toyota SR5 pickup (pre Tacoma truck) while I wait for the fancy expensive POS to get fixed.

I'm feeling pretty good about my decision to buy a 2023 Frontier Pro4x this summer. So far it has been a great little truck. My only complaint is that it sometimes downshifts a lot on the slightest inclines when cruising on the highway. Ironically, stupid shifting behavior was one of the things I hated most about the Tacoma TRD Offroad I had before. However, the Frontier shifts FAR better and smoother than the Taco did, it just downshifts more often than it needs to, which wastes fuel.

One thing I really wish more manufacturers would adopt is the combination gauge cluster, with analog gauges on the outside and a configurable digital screen in the center; it worked great in the Ram I had, and I hate that the all-digital gauges in my current Ford keep changing size and position, and could go blank while I’m in the middle of a road trip.

I love my 2014 Fi50, XLT four wheel drive with the Coyote. It has just enough electronics to make it practical, backup camera, bluetooth, and, a small screen. But, it is a perfect truck, no turbo with the Coyote, and it still gets decent mileage. It is dependable here in north east Minnesota, we got over a hundred inches of snow at my house last winter. I would not trade it for a new one today. It only has 85k on it, and, I am going to just fix it and, keep driving as long as I can. Not a spot of rust either despite our salty winter roads. You can have those expensive new ones with the host of problems they have.

Having worked as the captive mechanic on an assembly line at a GM plant, namely the rack and pinion assembly line, if a problem develops the line supervisor is notified, he makes the decision whether to stop the line and fix the problem or let it run until the problem can be fixed which means a later recall with the dealer can fix it. The assembly lines must continue to run even if it means fixing it later after the customer buys it.

No dealership here in Las Vegas or any elsewhere can get their hands on a CP 4 pump I know three people that have turned their diesels gladiators in because they are not able to drive them. I have a 2021 Honda civic and I’ve experienced issues with its Honda Sense system where in some cases it gets confused with traffic signals even when it’s green on main roads and it would activate the emergency braking system. Thankfully it didn’t break. Or if I sometimes use the brake hold button, it would suddenly disable all the safety features so I’d have to park my car at a safe spot. Turin off then turn it back on to reset the bugs. Might have to visit a dealership for software update

Yes, I can tell you for a fact that air tools in assembly of vehicles are extinct. All the "guns" or tools are electric or even battery powered. They are linked to "the screen" computer, which counts how many fasteners have been applied, if they were low or high torqued or even cross threaded. If one of these events happens, the operator must "release with concern" on the screen. And just in case you were wondering, if it isn't released, the line stops.

I am perplexed. the 2003 Silverado was built to be a rust bucket. That said the break lines rot out constantly. The worst park is if either a front or rear brake line brakes you lose all braking except the emergency brake. Why oh why is this not a safety recall?

While it's true that the failing electronics come from a third party, the manufacters are choosing them as the supplier. The failure rate of a suppliers part needs to be evaluated to determine if it's time to find a new supplier. So the manufacturers do have some degree of culpability.

How long do manufacturers support recalls? Is it only for new models or could be older models?
@hondofourfivetwo9347 Жыл бұрын
There’s serious Recalls and minor TSB’s social media doesn’t differentiate between the two then there’s stuff the technicians and or the customers see and is an issue but the manufacturers still won’t recognize it. What’s really concerning in certain cases in the past certain manufacturers have done the math and decided it’s cheaper to ignore an issue for now keep their fingers crossed and either fix it after most of the vehicles are already off the road due to age or settle any possible lawsuits that result from it rather than fixing the problem right away
@lordcorgi6481 Жыл бұрын
A lot of people take recalls the wrong way. Ford in 2022 had the most recalls. A lot of people will say that means they make junk. I take it as they're willing to fix their mistakes. I look at GM, and they almost refuse to do a recall on anything unless forced to do something. The new Corvette is a great example of GM and denying recalls. There was a class action lawsuit against GM for the rims. If you take a stock Corvette to the track and drive it like it's supposed to be driven the cast rims will crack and fracture and your tire will go flying off. They went to court and GM's defense was that the rims weren't defective, they just put the wrong rims on the vehicle. The judge agreed and GM has to do nothing about it. To this day if you buy a Corvette it comes with cast rims, when they should be forged to withstand the rigors of the track.
