You know what's funny?? Every channel I watch on KZbin puts out 25-40 minute videos all the time and I'm thinking, "Great, a bunch of time-wasting garbage with 5 minutes of what I actually want to see" but when Rob puts up a 20 minute video I'm like, "God damn it! It's not one of those hyper detailed hour long videos!" 😂 Keep up the good work man! This is literally my favorite channel by far because of how dedicated you are to doing things CORRECTLY (unlike 95% of the other automotive YT channels) and the attention to detail you have, along with ACTUALLY explaining it all makes my brain AND heart happy. Thanks for being you and I hope you never change! 🙂

Don’t know if the manufacturer says to offset them but usually in multi-plate clutches it’s a good idea to line the plates up as closely as you can so the intermediate plate or plates don’t distort and cause a slip issue. I know in heavy duty trucks the pads of friction material on a puck style disc need to be aligned roughly with each other. Depending on the alignment of the splines to the disc they might not fully align but the lower the overhang between the discs the better.

It does have a mechanical advantage compared to the axles, if there's a 3.5 final gear and 2.5 first gear, the axles get a total of nearly 9 times as much torque (2.2 each for an even split, probably as much as 4x as much torque on the rears)
@michaelmayer2430

Probably already been said but use grease instead of bread. I have had a lot of success by packing the bearing full of white grease and then finding a punch or extension thats close to the right size, then wrapping it in electrical tape until its a tight fit in the bearing. couple taps with a hammer and the bearing pops right out. works shockingly well.

Clutch: in my opinion, the Clutch plates should be aligned to each other. Now the pressure of one plate is not pressing straight onto te next plate. This combined with temperatures can cause the floater plates to warp.

I have a small suggestion... when I was doing my training as a mechanic I was taught that when doing up a sealing component especially something such as the oil pan in this case you should tighten/torque from the centre towards the ends so as to avoid any bowing or kinks in the sealing surface. But loving the work Rob love seeing the progress in your knowledge translate into your cars.... absolutely epic.

What I usually do for silicone gaskets is to pre tighten the oil pan bolts carefully to a point the silicone gets visible from the outside. Then let it cure completely before tightening to spec torque. That way you leave enough material between the mating surfaces to adhere and seal properly. You just don’t want to squeeze it all out since you can’t wipe the excess material off on the pan’s inside and silicone in your oil pump can’t be good for sure.

@Superdupersupersuped
@Superdupersupersuped 2 жыл бұрын
Dude pack it with grease, use a tap to tap the bushing, then after taping the bushing run a big ass bolt in there, the hydraulic action from the grease (or bread whatever wet towel combo you use) will put the bearing out, you won’t thread into anything but the bushing , and the bushing comes right out. Even if you run into the e shaft or crankshaft it’s gonna just push out, if you use towels or bread you won’t have to worry about that, but it works well enough not to have to be nervous about that. They’re usually made of brass (the bushing) so it’s easy to tap. Probably should use at the very least torque sticks with that heavy of an impact as well. Flywheel bolts usually don’t need 200 ft lbs lol. Love the vids keep at it , sick build :))

A tip is to put the thread lock into the female threads of the crank, not on the bolts, putting it on the bolts means some of it can make its way between the flywheel and the crank when you insert them, causing it not to seat 100% flush, depends how picky you are of coarse, lol. Just good practice.

Considering how the pan works, i would find it genuinely worth my time to machine the entire bottom of the engine + pan to create a groove. TWO major selling points for this: in operation, the pan is under vacuum, which means that if you machine a tolerance into this affair where by vacuum it seals (like in the SR-71) you don't need sealant (ok, just enough to dismiss oil leaking out when it sits around) and two, by giving the pan plate a groove to bite into the engine, it will dismiss the studs as structure and bypass it directly into itself, making the whole affair Nth times more rigid. It would also be trivial to do this. You only need a jig and a router with a carbide bit, that's it.

The ones I have worked with were on big compressors with really small tolerances but i cannot recall if they need to be greased on installation or not. But that bearing should last the lifetime of the car. Ask an HVAC/Ref Artisan (who deals with compressors) about WMBs so that if/when you need to replace it you do it properly the next time

I can't imagine anyone more deserving of an epic 4 rotor than you. The whole thing looks amazing. Looking forward to seeing it shoot flames on a dyno one day.
