The Embracer Group suddenly appeared out of thin air, THQ Nordic seems to be everywhere, but didn't THQ go out of business?
One of the things that I so very much love to talk about on this channel are the companies that affect you but which you’ve never heard of. Some of these unknown companies, though, they’re a little harder to even start to identify. They change names, and allow their subsidiaries a much broader, wider amount of freedom--further distancing themselves from the public.
THQ Nordic is one such company, but I don’t mean the publisher of games like Remnant: From the Ashes, Sunset Overdrive, or Generation Zero. I’m talking about their owner--previously also called THQ Nordic, or recently they’ve changed their name to Embracer Group. Yes, the Embracer Group, not THQ Nordic, though they’ve also gone by Nordic Games Publishing, Game Outlet Europe, and Nordic Games Group.
Whew, this one is gonna be a doozy.

Embracer Group totally sounds like an evil corporation within a Deus Ex game.

I started hearing about Embracer around the same time I heard about Tencent. Two monolithic companies who are, appropriately, hard to define, in both their goals, visions or methods. All we knew at the time was that one's Western, one's Eastern, they both seem to have an unlimited amount of money and they're vaccuuming up every single studio out there.

Same deal with me, and that's about all anyone really knows about either company. Other than I've heard Embracer has recently been having financial trouble for biting off more than it can properly chew. They've had to shut down a few good companies so far, because they have no clue how to handle or utilize the potential they must have seen to buy them in the first place. I've heard no one in the west really trusts Tencent because of openly communist ties, but in as far as Just Gaming, It's just a company. As long as they don't get propogandist on my ass, I don't really care what their beliefs individually are. Mine are my own to hold, and they won't change that. I just like gaming, as a fairly core part of my identity. I mostly hope it never gets too pricey, or completely digital. I've said for a while, if companies start wanting me to pay $150 for ONE game, I'll have to find another hobby. Because if it ever goes any higher than that, I couldn't afford it anymore.

Update: they bought 12 more game Studios 1/2 days ago so now they have around 55 Game Studios

As of a couple months ago Embracer has entered the comics industry by buying the publisher Dark Horse

Thanks for this, they got into my attention after western Squeenix IP and studio acquisition recently. Nordic games publishing and THQ Nordic is quite familiar for me due to their ThQ IP acquisition years ago, but changing name to Embracer I never knew it.

2 years later, let's get some updates on those games you mentioned at the end. Saint's Row: Upcoming reboot scheduled for release on August 23, 2022. Metro: There was work being done on a film adaptation, but with the current conflict between Russia and Ukraine (which series' novel author Dmitry Glukhovsky disapproves of), anything involving the I.P., has been put on pause. Goat Simulator: Goat Simulator 3 (yes, skipping #2) was announced on June 9, 2022 and is scheduled to be released sometime later this year. Kingdoms of Amalur: A remaster went live on September 8, 2020 with a new 3rd expansion releasing a year later on December 14, 2021. Any plans for further titles is unknown at this point in time. Outcast: On September 17, 2021, THQ Nordic announced an official sequel titled Outcast 2: A New Beginning. Slated to be released sometime in 2022, but an official release date is not yet known. TimeSplitters: On May 20, 2021, Deep Silver announced it was reforming Free Radical Design to work on a new entry in the franchise. Though this new game is being spearheaded by former series veterans Steve Ellis and David Doak, a timeline on its development is currently unknown.

First result I clicked on in my research about who Embracer are as they are buying Asmodee, one of the biggest board game publishers... who in turn had bought loads of smaller publishers and kept those names around so the org tree is gonna get a lot more confusing!!!

Also wanted to know... the part at 1:28 seems really cool. I have seen this somewhere before and it looks like it was "mutant... something" , a game we first heard about somtething like 4 years ago, but i know that mutant zero or what it was called was a turn based rpg and not action rpg, so i'm kinda drifting here

I have the answer why Embracer is gobbling up IP and Development studios. They are building a huge portfolio to sell to the highest bidder. Google, Amazon, Apple, and Microsoft are all looking to fill out the content for their first party studios. With the advent of gamepass type services and rumors of several Zenimax sized acquisitions going on amongst 3 or more big parties Embracer group seems in line for that big payout.

I thought the video was good however i disagree with the last few minutes. When you say that they have bought a lot of ip and are not doing anything with it. They have announced that they are planning/ working on the next metro, saints row, timesplitters. We will presumably be getting a lot of remasters in recent years. When they bought timesplitters everyone was excited because finally we could get a sequel or remake because before crytek were doing nothing with it.

I didn't know they change their name makes sense but thq Nordic idk seem simple for me to understand but anyways I always wanted Microsoft to buy them since they started buy studios it holds so many ip I love and ms would have the money Nordic needs to revive this ip rather than going with their plan of remastered version for 10 years to get cash flow to make a new game in the franchise like its cool but I want it now so I been just pray ms would buy and give them cash piles like their market cap is 6b usd they just spend 7.5b for Bethesda cmon ms really for broken games hahaha idk

*lol* I am really glad that the CEO of Embracer and major shareholder (!) won´t sell to Microsoft or anyone else! Embracer is one of the rare companys on the gaming market, who trust their developers and let them develop their own games without interfering them! The big studios like EA, Microsoft sadly would put their fingers in every project, I suppose!

They just keep adding and the gearbox stuff makes it a little confusing. But you sort of got your answers, timesplitters will be worked on again and while some their ip is useless. At games like kingdoms got something new like a dlc the verdict is out if it get a sequel.
