THAT part. Asia, South America, parts of Africa, the Caribbean. People who are darker skinned are seen as dirty and ugly. I’m watching this show and not denying these women their attractiveness but watching the men flock to them ONLY because they’re pale and pretty and only focusing on that and nothing else is…frustrating. You bond with the tan one but she’s not pale enough so you choose the whiter one. Come on. Everyone hates to act like there are issues in their community especially the black community and it’s ridiculous. The Rick Ross scene kinda makes me want to cry because I can tell that the darker skinned girl was nervous. The look on her face when Rick Ross said the other girl was better reminded me of myself. The light skinned girl was more confident, and honestly, lighter skinned girls receive more positive affirmation because of their light skin, which helps them build their confidence. Light skinned girls get more sympathy, more recognition for their accomplishments. Dark skinned girls are often overlooked or ignored. This would have been a nice conversation. I can give you a great example of why colorism draws the effects it has on both sides. I was at the gym, and there was a beautiful black women, her shape was amazing. The guys never once looked at her, even tho she was doing squats. You know how men are… Instead they come over to my section..and start fetishing over me. This has happened multiple times, any where I go for black men. It’s creepy as hell and freaks me tf out. When Megan explained the hate she got because of people being colorist to others and they are deflecting onto you. It should have stopped there. The reason why. While DSBM do indeed experience colorism, in the blk community it benefits you. DS is associated with masculinity which is great…if you’re a male. For a female, not so much. This fact aids in the masculinization and dehumanization of DSBW. We’re constantly associated with “strength” and “labor”. Outside of that, we’re seen as sex objects in the bc, but never wives or damsels in distress. Which is why when something bad happens to us (DV/Femicide), ppl make a joke out of it or are less empathetic (I.E., Megan Thee Stallion). As a light skinned person who is also afro Latina I've never experienced colorism ever. I've never experienced or witnessed the "you're not black enough" stuff. No one ever says "you're too Latina to be black", it's always you're too "black to be Latina." I've never understood why light skinned women play the victim like this. As a lighter skin black woman, I've always had darker skin black girls say I'm not black because of my complexion. I've been called albino, the white sheep of my family or if I was adopted/hospital mistake made after delivery. I always had to prove my blackness and the fact that I use perfect English grammar, never made things easier. If I hung out w/my white friends, I just kinda stuck out completely. I may of had the complexion, but far from the Caucasian features.

I believe in colorism I always felt like light skinned people could never see where darker skinned people are coming from because they just aren’t in that position to care they benefit from it but lastly I remember being compared to lightskinned women & people constantly telling me I’m prettier because I’m black & that’s been “playing out in my favor” so I think it’s pretty interesting how people’/s perspective of color changes over time because this is more like modern days I do remember however when I was younger light skinned girls would always get played out like they were better but once the tables switch they will get a taste of their own medicine it’s sad that it’s always light skin vs dark skins

This video is a great debunk on colorism. I'm from Senegal,Africa and i can say that colorism is still widely present in our society, light skinned women are much more desirable than dark skinned women in here and DSW "become desirable" when they fit the senegalese beauty standards. But even a LSW who doesn't fit the standards gets a pass well because she's LS. Fortunately how i see things, my generation seems to embrace more and more the darker skintones of my sisters (and brothers) !!

I used to be called white and stuff like that so I get what she is saying but I actually live in a very small town where I was one of the few POC and only at my highschool and I’ve al and relayed more to my black side because I experience and relate wayyyy more. Interracial relationships are even still taboo here . The few times I went to church they talked about how interracial relationships are not holy and I’m literally sitting in the front row on Easter .. but I feel safe around black women so I have seen colorism first hand and it’s usually very microagressive. Black men don’t ever like me but it’s probably because I’m gay

(My family is British so I speak properly and have an accent sometimes) It has nothing to do with her skin, but clearly someone told her that or made her feel that when growing up.. Ice spice and I have similar features like nose lips and eyes BUT I’m seen as black because of my skin complexion and 4a hair. Light skin privilege is real, it just don't get you much as my cousins think it does, at least in my experience as a man Edit: when people ask what I am I always say black for two reasons 1. we in public and I'm not gonna break down my life story for you cause you feel like it( however I will readily tell you bout my lily white daddy proudly ) 2. I would say that people always asking people if they're mixed, and either overtly or subversively stating that if they are, that is why theyre attractive, is colorist, because if a darker black person were to observe that, they would feel the othering and the insult.
