Sorry that youtube comments can be so harsh. That's what happens when people spend hundreds of hours on a game they love and forget what it was like when they were brand new to it. The problem with trying to learn this game blind is that there are so many things that trigger from specific, mechanical interactions which can be learned through careful analysis, and then there's an equal amount of things that run on pure chance, and there's no way to tell which is which. So you'll end up sitting there wondering if that rock dropped a pickup because it does that sometimes if an RNG value rolls high, or because an item from three floors ago with the vaguest possible description actually makes it so that a rock will always drop a pickup if it has rock texture 3 while on grid tile C7 in an L-shaped room that's connected to the item room.

Carl, I want to apologize for a comment I made replying to you on I believe the first video. I was being snarky about not paying attention to items. I've been absolutely loving these, and it's been really cool to watch you learn the game. The point you made about focusing on learning enemy patterns is a good point, because yes, without learning to survive, runs won't last long enough to get items anyway. That said, I want to reiterate just how important it is to pay atention to the "state" of your character is. That includes stats, health, and your character's visual components. This is because items often do more than what they say they do. If you aren't fully aware of your character's state before picking up the item you have basically no chance to notice those extra effects. The confusion over where something came from can be greattly diminished by paying close attention to how things were before you picked the item up. Also, some items add visual clues only when they are actually affecting you, but if you don't pay attention to what you look like you won't notice the change. Hopefully this doesn't come across as spoilers because I'm avoiding full on descriptions of specific items or mechanics, and hopefully it doesn't come off as being toxic/shitting on your gameplay. You're doing very well for a blind playthrough. It's just frustrating sometimes when you don't pick up on things that are easy to notice/understand quickly.

The ones that change likelihood of certain drops could be figured out if you really paid super close attention to things, but yes, trinkets in general are insanely difficult to figure out on your own.
@KeviNOlighT9 күн бұрын
@@Bobbias Yeah that's the only thing that makes me think that the IED mod could be ok for Carl, later on. But only if you can turn it on only for trinkets and nothing else. And for much later on, he can have it active for everything, but hidden by default and show the info only when he really wants to (toggled with F2, I think). IED is a great mod, really, it even lets you not show info if you hadn't picked up an item yet (and doesn't tell you what unreachable cards are), it's just that item descriptions have sooo many spoilers that we don't even think about because we normalized everything.
@wysaab9 күн бұрын

@@wysaab I never said Carl had the sample size to figure that stuff out, I said it's technically possible. It's extremely difficult without flat out running the stats in excel or something, but for at least some trinkets you could conceivably figure out that they modify certain drop rates.

I feel like your blind playthrough is most likely the most pure form of playing the creators had in mind when they made the game. You're supposed to pick your way through, finding the loose threads and pulling them. It's really interesting watching a scientist play a game. Your gameplay is only getting better. As an Isaac player, it can be frustrating at times, but I remind myself that this isn't like other Isaac streamers; this is different. It's fascinating watching you figure this all out. Bear in mind, and this is not a spoiler, there are times where an effect is a combo of several items, so it'll be that much harder to discern what's causing it. I'm sorry the comments can be stupid sometimes. Please focus on those of us who aren't that way. Love the runs, love the learning, this is truly a great series, and if Edmund and the rest of the team get wind of your playthrough I think they'd be absolutely delighted that you're playing their game the way they intended. Keep it up sir.
