I’ve been in in-patient rehab twice for eating disorders. I ate extremely low-fat and as little as possible. I realized after I started clean keto at 49 that disordered eating was caused by my brain trying to survive. I still had cravings on keto, but nothing like before. It was hard for me to not fear the dietary fat, so I didn’t eat enough fat. I’m 62 now. At 61, carnivore set me completely free. I don’t fast, although there is so much pressure to fast in some of popular private groups. Fasting really messes with me. I stay out of those groups now. Carnivore is amazing. Grateful. I’ll never go back.

Look up Dr Elizabeth Bright, she's a naturopath/osteopath who is carnivore also, she doesn't recommend fasting and explains why - which made me happy! I've fasted during my keto journey and wasn't something enjoyable that's for sure. She has a couple really good interviews on the Steak and Butter Gal's channel. She has a book, website and channel as well. I'm in my mid-50's and starting carnivore (thanks to finding Kelly's channel) and I have learned so much about hormones from Dr Bright. You definitely hit the mark ‼️ Fasting fans should say this when they push people to fast for a longer period of time!!!! The side effects of this might be far much worse then the benefits of fasting. I do naturally 16 hours of fast, it's perfect for me. Then I had seen all these videos were apparently 16 hours weren't enough and so I tried to do Omad and it was...... devastating. I remember eating while thinking "oh my God.... I'm not going to eat until tomorrow..." so I would eat huge portions of food like if there weren't a tomorrow and it was the last meal of my life..... then I would feel miserable and I did put on weight. Now I don't care about eating/fasting windows and I have very little carbohydrates. I feel great, I don't have cravings and feel relaxed and fullflled.

My wife has a gastric FB page with around 100,000 subscribers. All of them, from what I have read, are interested in or have had the surgery. The surgery does not seem to work long-term because of the diet. Yet none of the people, including my wife, seem interested in eating a low carb diet, or carnivore diet. My wife consumes lots of sugar and carbs. She originally lost 130 pounds, but has put a lot of the weight back on. It is frustrating when you know what the problem is, but the other side will not listen.

When it comes to the pig brain thing, I read or heard a while back that we are actually feeding the bacteria that we create through our food. Basically if we eat a lot of carbs and junk then the bacteria that feed on that multiply and scream for more. Same then if we are eating the healthier foods, the bacteria that feed on that will do the same and we will crave it.
@nerychristian

That is true. Our diets affect or gut microbiome. But it could also be our body's ability to balance blood glucose. People who mostly eat carbs, or who are in poor health, start to feel lightheaded if they aren't constantly eating. I've heard that exercise will also improve our gut microbiome.

This is a subject close to my heart ❤️. I’ve binge eaten for 35 plus years, with periods of restrictions, abstinence. I think my binge eating became worse when I lost my job, moved away from friends and then aged 39 found myself pregnant . It was isolating and lonely . I had my partner and my other two kids and friends but I was used to working and living a certain area. The change was not good and I feel better with a routine, even now. While I’m not bingeing on my usual sugary and savoury foods I do feel myself thinking about food more . It’s because it’s school holidays and I don’t have school runs and time to myself to do what I like like working out . Im still gettin it done but on someone else’s schedule. When I used to binge and was 175lbs I remember I would plan what I was going to eat while my husband was out at work, and even if I’d stuffed myself too the point of feeling sick , I had to get it eaten before he came home . I could do this morning and afternoon. I’d shove the wrappers under the sofa if I heard him coming, sometimes he’d find them and I’d joke about it but I was embarrassed. I’ve binged and purged in the past . I knew it was an eating disorder. While not completely recovered from the mental side of bingeing I do feel carnivore has helped to stop this cycle . I do agree processed meats like pepperoni , salami, cheese and dairy can lead to overeating . Fasting also another trigger to binge for me . , I can unintentionally fast forward up to 16 hours but extended fasting is a no no for me . Thankyou for highlighting this subject. ❤️

I remember one time we got new furniture, hubby and son started taking off couch cushions and the backs of the old recliners - I had to quick make up an excuse for them to do something else immediately while I gathered up all the wrappers and hid them in my pockets! Also would buy or make a cake for an occasion, always had to have 2 so I could finish the first one and eat half of the 2nd so hubby wouldn't know! Oh my I do not miss eating like that!

I haven't had one eating binge in 11 years. Here's what I did: (note: I'm suggesting the following as a STARTER program for people who may have trouble with an all-or-nothing adoption of zero carbs/carnivore diet. That is, I completely agree with Kelly's views on diet, but it may be that some people out there are like me and might do better with a progressive approach to zero carb). 1) I set a daily calorie limit of 2500 calories. This was an appropriate EASY limit for my gender, age, and size (male, 50s, 6'). 2) After a week at this EASY limit, I gained tremendous self-confidence that I didn't need to binge/overeat. I realized later that my lifetime of overeating was tied to FEAR about not getting enough to eat, or rather, denying myself the pleasure of stuffing myself. I no longer had fear after finding that I could not overeat one day at a time without the need for willpower, motivational aids, etc. 3) My entire focus is on food QUANTITY, and not food QUALITY. I strongly feel that if someone has a problem with overeating, they'll have far more success by focusing on the quantity of the food they eat. The simplest yardstick, of food quantity, is the calorie. Yes I know, everyone frowns on calorie counting, but it has worked extremely well for me. Calorie counting take very little of my time, and it actually gives me peace of mind to know how much I'm eating. 4) It does not work for me to manage my eating by managing my feelings! It's far easier and more effective to manage my ACTIONS. Again, I'm sure this goes counter to what many people in the eating disorders world believe. But consider, if you want to stop smoking, you'd not smoke one day at a time. For some reason, many in the eating disorders world put all the emphasis on feelings and none on concrete actions. I've not seen this work for anyone, and it didn't work for me. 5) What did work was to stop aiming for perfection in food quality. It was more effective by far for me, a total binge eater, to create a foundation of control based on a daily (365 no cheat days ever) limit of calories. Right now I'm applying the same focus of EASY limits on my carbs, and am finding the same progressive success and confidence as I lower my carb levels.

Even after going keto then carnivore, I had some trigger foods like nuts/nut butters, cheese, pork rinds. In my case it turned out I had some thyroid damage as a side effect of cancer treatments. @@petercyr3508 That's the thing. I had no idea I had a health issue driving. I thought it was "just mental". Hyper-palatable foods and all that. I really appreciate your openness about the binge eating. It helps me to not feel alone. Also, when you talked on Ken Berry’s channel you were open about how you first started out with carnivore - going to McDonald’s everyday for burger patties. You also mentioned that eating the same thing for awhile could help identify hunger cues. All of that really helped me b-c it’s difficult to get started & change a way of eating. And it also helped when you shared how much meat you eat at a time & to not restrict. I felt freer to get started that way without thinking of calories.

HI Kelly - thanks for the excellent content. This is for a future topic, perhaps. I just wanted to say that I have been "plateau-ing" for many months on carnivore (including dairy - probably the limiter on weight loss). No hunger ever - so that's a huge lifestyle benefit. Very happy I'm still down 30 pounds from starting in June 2021 and getting to this weight in Feb 2022. Even though I have been at the same weight through occasional forays into carb-land (not binging) for 6+months, I'M STILL SHRINKING. I tried on clothes today that I tried on 6 months ago and the jeans are fitting now, so I'm not tripping. I will try at some point to get the "pound loss" going again (the "other 30" that need to go) but for now I'm not hungry and I'm still slowly shrinking. Thanks!

@@lizziepoppins2698 How did I stop eating in my car??? There's so many factors really. I spent 2 months (Jan/Feb 2021) researching Keto and making the decision to start Mar 1st. Part of that preparation was thinking about and actually listing all the many changes I would DECIDE to make ..food choices, menu planning, food prep and even all the social and habit changes. I listed the eating in the car problem then. I think being aware and prepared ahead of time helps to prevent impulses and "slips". I first chose to regularly drive a different route so I didn't go past my fav binge supplier (Dairy Queen). Later, as I drove by it, or when I'd see my old favs in the grocery store I would say out loud; "You're not my friend. That's not my food". The biggest factor is probably sticking closely to Keto/Carnivore so the cravings/hunger is kept at bay and under control... including finally eliminating all sweet tastes (in coffee as well as all "keto treats"). Cravings are like stray cats...feed them and they keep hanging around; ignore them and they'll go away. To be honest, I still eat in my car sometimes (traveling, all day errand-running) but it's purse bacon, meat sticks or no-sugar jerky, even boiled eggs. Not the same problem, not binging and not a shameful secret. All the best to you in your health journey.

I have actually gained weight doing IF. 😩 I realize I need to relax my brain about food and concentrate on nutrient dense and satisfying meals of meat when I’m hungry not in a restricted time window that keeps me thinking about food for hours after my eating window closes and causes me to break down and binge.

You ticked off a lot of my boxes with this video. I will get down, and before keto, go on a binge to make myself happy again. The pig brain is still there and I have to watch for the symptoms of me wanting to binge even with steak and eggs. That is usually my signal that I need to get out of the house and do something so I forget to eat for a while. Love the suggestions for box breathing and finding a task to accomplish.

I'm a man with severe bulimia. I deliberately stop myself from eating then I binge or I over exercise to compensate. I've done carnivore for over 10 years but I still binge. I'm still in the cycle. I can still binge on meat. I only eat beef. I have to stop myself. I'm now at 50 year old type 1 diabetic. I'm not as bad as I was or as fat as I was. My diabetes is under control on low insulin. Better than it's ever been but I can't lose weight. My brain always manages to work its way around how to binge on whatever diet I'm on. Thanks for this advice.

I still live with family and when there’s junk food in the house I feel like something takes over me and I eat it, even if I don’t massively want it, I’ll keep thinking about it until I eat it. Any tips on having the strength to not eat junk food? I go round and round in circles with this. I hate how much control food has over me. 😞

It’s SO much easier for me to control binge eating on carnivore!! After doing carnivore for a two months, I ate some carbs at a get-together. Over the the next few days, my face broke out and I had intense joint pain. Now, carbs aren’t a temptation because I know if I eat them, it’s going to physically hurt. No thanks!!!

This is absolutely the most helpful video I have seen yet. I have been a binge eater all my life and did not understand that crazed, mindless eating that I did or how to break it. I started Carnivore again 7/12/22 since I failed in the past and I bought a Christian 12 Step Program book and a Breaking Emotional Eating workbook. Everything you say makes so much sense. I never put it together that all my restrictive diets caused the binge eating. I am wondering if I should change the two meals a day with the Intermediate fasting for 16 hours to 3 times a day. I did go on Carnivore to stop me from eating my addictive foods. I never crave a Rib Eye steak or other meats. I though it was my best chance to finally do it. Thank you so much Kelly!

"Keto" snacks are a trigger. So are convenient cheeses, nuts and processed meats. Eggs seem to work best. I'm probably going back to having boiled eggs in the refrigerator. PS: I was a cannabis patient, for chronic pain. Of course I occasionally enjoyed it recreationally too, but I think I can't do that anymore. Before I went keto, pot didn't trigger binging. It does now. I think it's because keto treated leptin resistance, and now I think I get the munchies even more than other people. As for the pain, keto has helped more with that than pot did. So, I'm sticking with keto and fasting.

For people with very high insulin/insulin response, like myself, eating very high fat has been critical to stop binging. Works perfectly. Even on fatty carnivore would binge on meat, had to bring fat way up. Now meat focussed keto, working well and no binges. Have to be very aware of fullness though as you dont need much food when its so high fat, and easy to accidentally overeat, really need to track for a couple of weeks.
