So Mario being a Carpenter in Donkey Kong Arcade might have been retconned to him already have been a plumber. This makes sense since Mario is wearing plumber attire and is canonically a construction Plumber. The name Pauline like the Koopalings names was a creation of the West ended up becoming their official names. True, Donkey Kong Senior did kidnap Pauline just to get a rise out of Mario, and later in his old age gloats about the times he has distressed damsels. Mario and probably Luigi put DK in the cage after the events of DKA because while what DK did was a prank, the barrels he was throwing everywhere probably put people in danger as Super Mario Odyssey confirms people were present for the event since so many people know what happened. In addition to Pauline no enjoying DK's prank as she describes the events as a terrible day.
