Pad Chennington There's a book coming out I think later this year on the Schimpfluch-Gruppe, a diffuse and deeply bizarre Swiss noise/sound art/performance art collective, the central figures being Rudolf Eb.er, Joke Lanz and Dave Phillips. Eb.er's work, in particular, is frequently darkly funny yet also completely terrifying.

Not much of a noise band but you should look up the band Dvar. A Russian darkwave/"lightwave" band that has been around since the early 90s with some rumors saying late 80s. Out of the years they have been active no one knows who the members are or how many there are. All that is know is they are from Russia. They've only done one interview and it was by email only. Really great band and is worth checking out

P.S. Shōwa is far from the strangest or least musical thing in the Gero catalogue. Even setting aside non-recording conceptual releases such as a box full of empty cassette cases to be used as an instrument or a clear cassette with no tape and an octopus tentacle inside, special credit must be given to the utterly depressing Endless Humiliation and the thoroughly disgusting Night. Look descriptions of those up if you're curious, or the material itself if you are made of particularly stern stuff.

Thank you so much for introducing me to another really interesting band. I love digging around for obscure music, and your channel has made the dig that little bit easier. Subscribed right after I watched the Hanatarash video. I have a real respect for the humour and extremity of these bands. It must have taken some real guts, especially when you consider the tensions between two very different generations in Japan at the time, and the resulting crackdown on the youth. Reminds me of COUM transmissions, who eventually turned into Throbbing Gristle.

Some other great Gero releases! Recycled: A tape in RRRecords series where the music is dubbed on some random c-cassette. Contains no gero material, only bootleg cambodian pop songs. William Bennet Is My Dick: It's a loop of few seconds of music, Juntaro screaming random things, high pitched noise. Released on Stomach Ache Records, a RRRecords sublabel where RRRon published shitty bootlegs and other stupid stuff. Night: Seven inch record with juntaro screamin WANTWUTHREFO and sounds of some bloke taking a massive dump. Comes with extremely ostantenious booklet and is pressed on rainbow coloured vinyl. Yellow Thrash Bazooka: Seven inch with over 60 songs on it. Each start with Juntaro stating song title, screaming WANTWUTHREFO and then blasting noise for few seconds. Shaking Box Music: You Are The Noise Maker: 100 empty tape shells in a metal box. Played by shaking the box. YOU ARE THE NOISE MAKER! And much much more!

i also hoped you’d touch on their release moenai hai, did you ever get a chance to check out that album? it’s an oddball for sure. quiet field recordings for most of the duration of the 50 minutes, but track 2 is the loudest fucking thing ever. track 4 has a literal auditory jumpscare as well if you’re interested in more of Juntaro’s shenanigans as of late, they released a great record last year that features 11 tracks of stolen and lifted lounge music, as well as a random punk track in the middle. i think that’d be up your alley as well! they also released a 12” in 2017 that was another stolen disco song on the a side, with some different chops of it on the b side. really weird.

Ok, first off Lou Reed - Metal Machine Music. And second and closer to home on the topic you have to listen to Hafler Trio's F**k release, which you can actually listen to (not just for a minute or two) and check out the liner notes on the project included with it. The time I think has passed for needing to ask the question 'Is this really (fill in the blank)'. When a guy can take a dump into metal cans, seal them and label them as his crap and people buy it as art I think we have gone beyond whether or not something is 'music' or 'art' or whatever when it comes to creative output. But always keep the good stuff coming man...there is a HUGE world of music out there that most people don't even realize exists. The net labels of the late 90's-early 2000's is another fertile place to find new experiences.

It's a good video and all but it's not hard to find the proper pronunciation to things, same with the way he said Vis A Vis. It's not a huge deal or anything but it makes it seems like you care and are more professional/knowledgeable when you take a few seconds to find out how to say it properly. Just a minor nitpick really. Also pretty sure it's Gehro Gehri Geh Geh Geh or pretty close to that judging by how the word gero or more accurately onomatopoeia in Japanese is pronounced.

@@Andor. To be honest, no one was going to read the comment if I took two paragraphs to explain how to make the らりるれろ sound to someone who has no experience with Japanese. "D" is the closest English approximation, which is why I subbed it in. Or was it describing the last three syllables as being "monotone" that you take issue with? How would you write it out for someone who isn't familiar with Japanese pronunciation? EDIT: changed the OP to say "doe" instead of "dow". Same intended pronunciation, but maybe it came across like I was trying to say it's pronounced like "Dow Jones".

Oh, and Nosei Sakata's music is worth looking into. I have a download link if you need one since it's very hard to find.
