Mrs. Moss was our crossing guard at P.S. 19 in 60s . I would give Mrs. Moss a hug every morning. "Miss Moss may we cross! " was a rely cry we kids said each morning. She was so warm and frequently stopped us kids from arguing and fighting. The crossing guards of my childhood are unsung heroes.

Mrs. Agne was our crossing guard at P.S. 13 in the 50s. She got to know all the parents. My mother used to make lemon meringue pies for her!

There was a new crossing guard by P.S. 13 when I was there not too long ago. Seeing my gray hair, she called me "Pops" and led me safely across the street.
