Here’s the thing about the blues scale (or learning any scale for that matter). Know them, but don’t learn them lol. I’m deadly serious hear me out. Learn the major and minor scales and from there when you “learn” a new scale simply remove the notes that don’t apply and add the ones that do to that scale. Here’s why. Let say you know the major and minor scales and you have learned the blues scales. Let’s say you’re playing in Em. So you also know that you’re playing in Gmajor. Now superimposed the blues scales over that and what are you left with? A jumbled mess where everything but a flat second is in key and you end up playing nothing but an endless noodle. Root in key, 2nd in key, both 3rds will be in key in a blues scale, 4th, flat 5th, 5th, both 6ths can be used as well as a 7th and a major 7th. You end up with a mess and it’s much harder to take things out of your locker than put them in. My advice is to know the major and minor scales. Than if you want to make it blues, add the flat 5th, add both 3rds, use 7ths. But play it thru the prism of a major or minor scale. The other thing is this. If you purely play blues you’ll just be a riff guitarist that can blast off a solo but you won’t be anything close to a complete musician. It doesn’t harmonize. The blues scale is not even really a scale (it obviously is) but it didn’t come about from harmonization it came about from people playing a major or minor scale and bending certain notes so those notes became the key. A second technically is not in key in a blues scale. However your 2nd is the 5th of your dominant chord. The 2nd generally gets bent up to a minor third. A 4th bent up to a flat 5th or a 5th bent down to a flat 5th. Understand the scale that way and you’ll be better off harmonically. Don’t “play” the blues scale. Play the major or minor scale adding the notes that apply in a blues scale when you want that sound and dropping the ones from the major or minor that don’t fit. Ultimately you will end up playing 90% of the blues scale this way but it’s a much different mindset and one that might benefit you if you’re struggling to do anything but solo over a shuffle in E or A

So is this played over G or Bb?

That's my question too. It sounds like the chords are major GCD, but the lead scale is Gm. How/why does that work? the 3rd and 4th seem to be conflicting in the chords and the lead scale.

Good video - please make a video showing the chords you played and can play in that blues progression - instead of the basic G to C to D. Please make a video showing options for blues chords with this progression. Thank you so much. John
