Man I just find it hard to imagine an experienced Jedi killer like Fett ever thinking it was a good idea to close the distance on Luke with his carbine. Knowing what we know about Boba now both in Disney canon and Legends, Boba would've probably opted to hit Luke's skiff with a rocket or something else that's not throwing himself into melee range against an armed Jedi.
@benlewis42412 жыл бұрын
Boba knew though (unlike the rest of the galaxy) that Luke's reputation was relatively overblown- pre-Dagobah he was a fighter pilot who knew a few tricks with a lightsaber. Then he got to see Luke wander straight into a trap set by Vader. There was nothing to suggest to Boba that Luke even had the skills of a Padawan. The merits of going long range with someone who has foresight and can deflect your shots back at you is debatable, but lets not forget that using his rocket would have destroyed Jabba's men, and more importantly, his property, if the fuel cells on that thing were volatile it could be even worse. I am not sure if there are any force powers that really effect rockets in cannon, but does Boba know that? The really smart thing to do would have being not to engage at all. Boba had his bounty. If the heroes escaped he could get paid again to capture them, he had very little reason to engage right then... except his hatred of Jedi who killed his father. In the end it was his inability to let go of hatred which killed him.

I read somewhere that he was drunk or something when he flew up and attacked Luke face to face lol. It would definitely explain why he awkwardly raises his arms upwards like superman before flying up in the air. Also Luke, Han, and Chewy were outnumbered like 50 to 3 so Boba probably laid back too much and drank a lot during the execution.

Luke cutting off Boba’s right hand could’ve been thematically fitting, showing how he’s becoming like his father in the bad way; And later when he sees how he does the same to Vader, it adds more horror to the realization of what he’s becoming, especially after doing a Vader on Boba, who also fell down a pit shortly afterwards. Luke then chooses not to repeat his violence and spares Vader.

I've never seen that prop jetpack with the gash before. Definitely seems like it was intended to show some lightsaber damage. Even if covered in wet sand, you can still see the gash in the opening scene of Book of Boba Fett ep.1, when he crawls out of the pit. Meanwhile, in the Mandalorian chapter 9, the gash is patched with some silver sheet of metal . Cobb Vanth fixed it before using the armor for the 1st time against the mining collective. A “respectable” death wouldn’t have been considered for Boba Fett for a couple reasons- 1. He’s intended to be put into the villain category, therefore having a villain die in the movie doesn’t necessitate a “respectful” death. 2. Boba Fett isn’t a main character. The only original purpose he had for the original films was simply to be a hired bounty hunter by the empire to do his job. That’s it. People say the fans fell in love with the character, however because his character is so minimal in the movies, what people really mean is that the fans loved his costume and gadgets. When he died the way he did in the movie, according to the characters place in the films, the death makes perfect sense considering the lack of significance for the character and since the nature of ROTJ is all about all the “bad guys dying”. But fans of the costume of Boba Fett felt short changed considering his minimal role in ROTJ and his easy death. This same type of phenomena took place with the character of Darth Maul in TPM.

0:56 I have the itching feeling that, despite the plot-armor the main characters have, Chewbacca may have been injured badly to the point where he could not help much until much later, so then this could have set up and tied into the early Endor concepts of the characters meeting an entire home of Wookies that would have helped them fight the Empire (instead, we got "Ewoks" or "Wok-E's" [wookie mixed around]). So maybe this was scrapped when Lucas decided to capitalize on some cute little bears appearing in the movie instead so he could sell a lot of Ewok toys, meaning Boba would not have his fight scene that was building up since the previous movie. I love the Ewoks, and I think they're cute and badass in their own right (they apparently hit like a truck, just not as evident in the old-ass movie), but I really would have loved if Return of the Jedi did do Boba right in a really good fight as well as lead up to an injured Chewbacca leading the heroes to find an entire Wookie tribe(s) that would have demolished the Imperial forces in a much, much more badass and cooler way. Chewbacca deserved more in his species' representation in the OT, and George Lucas blue-balled that concept for a chance to sell little bear toys.

For me, personally, in the scene where Luke reflected back the blaster at Boba, I think it ricochet at an angle to where it caused the open gash of his jetpack then knocked him down due to sheer blast impact. Partially-blind Han just hit the open gash at the exact spot to cause the pack to short circuit and launch Boba into his demise, which is very lucky on Solo's part. Plus, Boba made the mistake of focusing on killing Luke and ignoring Chewie and Han Solo, hadn't he done that and injured Chewie and deal with Han instead. The battle would be entirely different.
@Brian-z2i2 жыл бұрын
It wasn't a breach, it's a known malfunction. Lore wise, Boba's jetpack is outdated and uses propellant. Hitting it in the right spot activates it.
@bionx90982 жыл бұрын
I think this way is better. For both how Jango Fett, and Boba Fett "dies", it's saying they were both defeated by sheer bad luck, not a fault of their own skill. Since both had their jetpacks conveniently malfunctioning.

We were a different audience back then. That whole fight scene was cool. Yeah, now that you point it out, it would have been cool if Chewie would have been injured. It could have shown the danger and how tough a Wookiee could be by ignoring the injury until after the battle when he needed aid, but Boba Fett wasn't the galaxy's most notorious bounty hunter back then. He was just a bounty hunter who tried to take out a jedi and was shown how dumb it was to even try. He wasn't made into the badass he is today until after all that. Also, beskar wasn't a thing back then, either.That was also an after-the-fact creation.
@thenewkalpa2 жыл бұрын
I think, despite the overwhelming amount of lore that came after the OT, Boba was still being hyped up as one of the early baddies that the protagonists have to defeat when saving Han. My theory, based on what else I know about Return of the Jedi concepts, is that Boba's better fight scene was cut because of the George Lucas' choice to replace Wookies with Ewoks. If Boba's better fight scene occurred as portrayed, then Chewie would have been injured (not dead, the movie would never go that far), resulting in an injured Chewbacca having to lay back for a while the rest of the known story occurred, ultimately leading to Endor where Chewbacca would lead the heroes to other Wookie tribes on their home moon of Endor (early concept). So Boba basically may have been blue-balled in his buildup all because Lucas chose to replace Wookies with Ewoks on Endor just to sell cute bear toys (I think that's literally why Lucas did that). Both Boba and Chewie were done wrong in Return of the Jedi. No good Boba fight scene and no badass reveal of more wookies to take down the Imperial forces on Endor.
@philmicklewright15082 жыл бұрын
@@thenewkalpa I believe the actual reason was because the budget for Wookiee costumes would have been too high, also in 2005 when talking about kashyyyk and a load of wookiees for ROTS Lucas stated how it was really hard to get a 7ft actor back in the 80s where as nowadays he could just got to an NBA team.

That wouldn't be George Lucas' editing style. Remember also the edited sandstorm footage after the Sarlaac Pit battles before rejoining the rebellion. People were saying they would have liked it put in the movie. George Lucas felt (check George Lucas on 2004 special editions DVD featurettes) it was excessive to have a high energy following a high energy action sequence before allowing the movie audience room to breath and take a mental break to take in all those action scenes in calmness again. George Lucas felt it would confuse the once rescuing Han Solo and everyone else to put Luke Skywalker in another action sequence just to get back to space (for Luke Skywalker going off to see Yoda) we got a more relaxed needing to see Yoda vs Luke Skywalker needs to see Yoda to get a break being around everything in a rebellion against Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine (now introduced) because all it was going to be was non stop action in the rebellion without a sense of at least moments of calmness in-between!

the story I always heard was that Boba's actor heard that his character was building a fandom, so he asked for a raise...but George didn't really care what the fans thought, esp as he was ending the whole thing anyway, and decided to kill him off in a ridiculous way to highlight that!
@michaelalvarez81122 жыл бұрын
Idk about that. George did say if he know boba was gonna be as big as he was, he would of put more time into him and made his fight more grand

I remember seeing “Jedi” in the theatre.A small little boy heart racing,jaw wide open,in awe of BOBBA.Now imagine the utter heartbreak of a dreamy eyed boy seeing his hero unceremoniously rolling into The mighty sarlack.I was the original BOBBA Fett finatic.Loved this video.Well done…This is the way.

I absolutely love your content. Oh how I wish this and other scenes weren't cut out. Greatest bounty hunter gets hit in the back then falls into the pit. Pathetic. The only thing is maybe Lucas didn't want to cross a certain threshold with death scenes. Making it to dark. I know, an entire planet was destroyed, but, not really the same as a one on one or one on a few death scenes.

It would have been nice to see a more actions from his point of view yes what would have been awesome for him to bow out a little longer.The sad part of all of this is i was hoping to see more of that scene added by Lucas film could have done more before with it before Disney got there hands upon it but i have to say the bounty hunter's fate came as a bit of a shock when i saw it in the cinima'. It should of been a better end to Boba's story. shame. I think it's sad that his screen time was'nt what it could have been.

This minor character got the ending he deserved. How fans perceive a character should not come into play when crafting a story.

Great analysis of the storyboards! I think about what kind of changes would need to occur in Book of Boba if this would of occurred in ROTJ

I love that Boba finally gets the recognition he deserves! And I've loved to see the original idea of the fight between Luke and Boba to be featured in the film. Btw, imo Luke's Green lightsaber is my favorite out of all. It's just so elegant (from a more civilized age ;)) and beautiful! Plus I like how Luke pays tribute to both of his masters: The hilt is very similar to Obi-Wan's, and the blade color is Yoda's.

Love this channel so much - you are uncovering and discussing some great footage. I cannot believe I missed the damage on Boba Fett’s jet pack, right there in plain sight! It would have been amazing to see a much harder fight against Boba, I know they didn’t realise he would become as infamous as he has but still, it would have been awesome to see Luke taking down the ultimate bounty hunter! #thisistheway

It is funny how much really goes into directing, filming, what makes into the final. I think I read somewhere dozens of hours and hours go onto the cutting room floor for a 2 hour movie. So many takes just to get the right one. A LOT has to do with story flow, time. Right now it seems many films have that standard 90-120 minute standard. A few come along, but they are worried about keeping the audiences attention. Back in the old days, we are all too young to remember, but movies like Ben-Hur and Gone with the Wind at intermissions for smokes, drinks, eats. It was common in many regards back then. You can catch them sometimes if you rent, they pop up on some versions. Also, not everyone is happy. Christopher Lee was upset he did not make the cut in Return of The King as Saruman, though he is in the extended version. But since we are on Star Wars, Lucas had, I believe Speilburg and Scorsese, screen his first cut of Star Wars, and they tore it up. So much of this stuff is filmed out of order to the actual story. Lucas said it was so revealing what they were saying to him, how it was cluttered, the story wasn't flowing, especially the beginning. What you see is not what others may see. Second pair of eyeballs as it were. All of Biggs scenes were cut out of the beginning. It was funny I had the early comics, and the Biggs scenes were in the comics, and I am like "where is he in the movie?" I was just a sprout back then. We all wish we could see more, and I always love director's cuts and deleted scenes. There was a lot more filming back then too. Reshoots were expensive in all those locales, CGI really didn't exist, and THX special effects was in its infancy.

This is pretty sweet. I actually have a copy of one of the story boards you show in this video. It’s has a COA from some place (I can’t recall). It’s a photo copy, but that happened with story boards as the stunt crew were blocking out the scene. Pretty sweet.

In a slow motion review of the Battle of the Dune Sea, you can see Chewie curling back and a wound on his shoulder, which was likely from this unfilmed scene, but they put that detail in there, just like the damaged rocket pack.

Boba getting beat by accident makes a lot of sense. A lot of the best gunslingers of the Old West were taken out not by expert gunfighters but greenhorns who got lucky or accidents. A glorious end is most of the time an invention of film.
