Fellow 4546B researcher here, I actually have some extra insight on bonesharks. I created a base in the floating islands biome to do research on the bonesharks, and it turns out they are actually less dangerous than most people think. After only a couple of hits from the knife, they will swim away, and after doing this a few times, the bonesharks actually left me alone comepletely, which means that they can be deterred without killing them outright. They still didn't like my vehicles though, so I had to park mine outside the territory.

Funnily enough when I first played I thought they were passive because I could swim around near them and and they ignored me. Then I went into bone shark territory with my prawn suit to do some mining and found out the hard way bone sharks absolutely love the prawn suit. I think when the PDA says they can be distracted by light what it really means is they will chew the crap out of the prawn suit’s lighted front.

These came to scare me more than a reaper. Once you know where a reaper it is you can keep a safe distance from it, but the sandshark will attack you when you least expect it while exploring and collecting resources in advanced areas. Plus the many times they almost destroyed my Seamoth. 😢

I played through the game without encountering a reaper, but these were protecting important tech while being too numerous to fight off or avoid. Basically like having a self destruct timer om the seamoth while exploring. Bastards.

I'm able to park my sea moth outside my base without them attacking it if I have the headlights turned off, so maybe that's what the PDA means by distracted by lights. Of course, since you can't manually turn off the lights on the prawn, not much help there. Also surprised the video didn't mention that while they're not all that dangerous alone, they go around in packs so you get a death by a thousand cuts sort of thing. at least that's been my experience. Imo they're up there with the lava lizards for most annoyingly dangerous to my vehicles

I built a base in the floating islands and I have noticed ( this has been over weeks of gameplay) there are a lot more closer to the floor than the islands themselves and I can confirm they love biting the prawn suit

Think they are a close relative to reaper leviathan? General body shape is similar, singular set of eyes, minimal bioluminescence, and 4 protrusions located on the head. Reapers don’t have that armor but still seem to be similar Edit: so I was wrong about the eyes, bone shark have 1 pair but reaper has 2 pairs. But I still think this is a possibility

maybe this is just my experience, but it seems like the Bonesharks pursue you a lot longer than most other enemies in the game, i've had a couple times where one or two have even chased me into another biome while in a seamoth

um buddy Bone sharks ARE attracted to light and sound tested this with a streamer & yes glowsticks don't work but Cyclops distraction buoy does and Seamoth moving no lights attracts them Seamoth sitting with JUST lights also attracts them as does the Cyclops flood lights.

In my first adventure on the planet 4546B, I just sorta gave everything a name without meaning to. With the Boneshark, I gave it the name "*sighs*... fuck you." (pardon my profanity.) While I did see it in the Underwater Islands, I only really encountered it in the Crag Field. I was looking for some Lithium and happened to be nearby in the Grand Reef. I wasn't having any luck, so I moved into the Crag Field to search in my Seamoth. Every time I'd scare a Boneshark off with the perimeter defense system, there'd always be another one to attack, hence the name. I thought it's teeth were a cool design, but unfortunately did not have the interest in it out of sheer annoyance.

I always found the Bonesharks incredibly annoying, being attacked all the time even in creative mode, but my recent playthrough on the switch surprised me, as I rarely got attacked or even chased by bonesharks, so maybe they arent as aggressive as I remember
