I'd say it was a whole lot more than a "little fling." Many in his group have written she was the love of his life. And in interviews and in her autobiography, she called Elvis her soulmate even though she was (it seemed) happily married to Roger Smith until his death. She married him one week after Elvis married Priscilla.

they had steamy goings-on, which is evident when you see the movie. and they did love each other, with Ann Margaret still protectively tight-lipped about it. 💋 unpopular opinion: i'm not an Ann Margaret fan 😂 i don't view her as the female Elvis though she did match his energy (and then some!!!) one of the only ones who could (and the reason Col never let them work together again). 💃due respect to all, in my opinion she was no Elvis ⚡️ but really, who is??? and for me, having seen her first in "Bye Bye Birdie" - which was basically a parody of Elvis fans going nuts because their favorite rock star was drafted - argh, she made me cringe! and just has ever since! i know people loved that one too. 🫠 to me she was always just too_much, too frantic, nuts! like she was on speed 😬🌪️🫣 (i loved her in Tommy; its campiness suited her) as for love: two entertainers in such a glaring spotlight, two big personalities, two highly ambitious people... well, a marriage would never have worked for them. an affair is exciting, but reality would not have gone over well 🤷🏻‍♀️ BUT, thanks for this great reaction!
