You couldn't have put my opinion of Babel any better than you have here. I wanted to love it but basically every single thing Kuang does in the book has already been done better by other authors, and I think it's a bit patronising to her readership's intelligence for her to keep telling them things that they already know, repeatedly again and again throughout the story. Indeed, I'm often surprised that lots of authors mistake novels for pulpits, because novels on the whole tend to be a lot smaller. It's also a shame that all of the characters sounded like they were from 2023 rather than the 1830s when the story is set. Still, lovely video! Thank you for uploading it, it really cheered me up.

I'm currently in my Emily Henry era because she's been the only author that I've been in the mood to read lately, and I literally just started PWMOV. I've read both Beach Read and Book Lovers, and right now, Beach Read is taking the top spot for me, but we'll see. I do agree that Emily seems to really capture the human element in her stories, and really makes me empathize with both characters because I've been an emotional wreck in the two I've read already, and I assume it'll be a recurring theme, lol.
