There is an invisible barrier that prevents items from reaching the bottom of the pit. The log cart is floating like 3/4 of the eay up or so. Your character can pass through, but items themselves cannot. Probably to prevent people from building down there even tho you still can.

Fun fact:The Armsy the guys were fighting is a grey Armsy which means that instead of doing 40 damage per hit, that one did 60! That explains why Mark's health dropped critically when he got hit once. In the cave btw not the sinkhole cause they were attacking at long range

After watching this entire series through, I am convinced that when Mark goes out in public, he has to wear one of those harnesses with the leash that people use on dogs and spastic toddlers because he CAN'T go near a ledge and NOT fall off! Mark sees ledge= gotta walk up to the edge and fiddle around until plummeting to guaranteed injury and possible death.
