I think the reason why it works so well is because it feels foreboding and threatening. Everyone in the show calls him Billy, or Butcher but no one ever calls him his full name William, not even his own parents. All except one person. Homelander. Whenever he calls him William it's him being straightforward with Butcher. Homelander knows what Butcher is and doesn't miss any opportunity to take shots at him or bother trying to hide it. Also you could argue that William just sounds more sophisticated to say than Bill or Billy since William is a much older name than Bill.

I don’t know about that. Not to be a pessimist but Ryan is the person who matters the most to Butcher at the moment and he’s desperate to save him. Currently, Ryan is in the hands of an unbeatable psychopath and Butcher has only a few months to live. Saving Ryan is an impossible task with a ticking clock-and yet we know Butcher is not going to give up, so that leaves the question: to what levels is he going to stoop to, and how far is he going to go to save Ryan? To me this might seems like it could be the perfect recipe for the darkest Butcher we ever see. Ironically turning into that version of himself in order to do the noblest and most selfless thing he’s ever done in his life.

Good clip. I guess Billy forgets Homelander has super-hearing, he might wanna try using sign language with Ryan next time lol. One thing I admire about this show is stature of Homelander. He’s not as tall as Butcher, Noir or Hughie but he’s still intimidating nonetheless. Anthony Starr has such a great screen presence I’m glad they don’t try to make him look taller than his costars, a common troupe within American film & tv. With Homelander there’s emphasis on his posture instead. Starr’s executes Homelander’s body language to perfection. Homelander is a man who’s extremely confident in himself when he’s in the presence of others regardless of their height.

I don't fully agree. Homelander is supposed to look like the ideal German human. Plus Homelander is supposed to be 6'2(an inch less thanSuperman as a reference to him being a knock off),Anthony is like 5'10.5 They could try to make him look a bit taller with lifts and have other actors wear flatier shoes and get Anthony to actually work out. Plus you would think he should be a bit taller and bit bigger than Soldier Boy(6'0)but he isn't,they could make Homelander like nearly 6'1(say 185cm flat) It would fully convey that he is the upgrade Instead he has a fake muscle suit Soldier Boy being 1.5 inches taller,more muscular and better looking doesnt make sense with the narrative.
